I hope Erin knows how lucky she is to have a mother who wants her to find joy in living, rather than a mother who cannot find joy in Erin's life simply because she is not straight.
I want and need the assurance that my parents can't leave my partner out in the cold if something should happen to me. Without marriage equality, if something were to happen to me, my parents could (and would) easily shut someone I loved and was committed to out of any medical decision-making or funeral planning.
