  • I am not even mad at grandma she did her thang

  • i remember doing this when i was little

  • He must be marrying a white girl. What is wrong with Black men that they refuse to marry Black women? If this is an interratial wedding than it is a slap in the face to are ancestors that faught so hard to fight the white colonizers and slavers of are people.

  • @ShabazzAllah1 listen you nincompoop, that was one of the dumbest comments I've seen. first, no she's not a "white girl" - she's Egyptian. Second, who gives a flying f*** if she was!?

  • @ShabazzAllah1 your views are interesting (i looked at you channel for a moment) but your anger towards an entire race (because of the actions of a few ) outweighs any thoughts of value that you might be able to share.

  • anything429...the first lady - does she teach at the dance collective formerly located in leimert park?

  • @valkie12 I'm not sure where that is but this is a group from Brooklyn, NY

  • @anything429 leimert part is in los angeles - so i guess it's not her. when i lived in l.a. i used to stand outside her dance class and just enjoy the drumming and the movement...

    thanks for the reply

  • This is beautiful

  • they r not dancing... they r possessed wit VOODOO

  • @hannaxyz123 what the hell are you talking about?

  • Beautiful.

  • this dance is Senegalese not west indies or African American. Get it right!!!

  • @anything429 its good you mention Senegal, call it Sabar, just to be more precise, educate your viewers.....to use African dance alone perpetuate general misconceptions: if you didnt know now you know, otherwise it is just laziness or apathy or neo-colonial complicity...or all of the above.

  • @afrogroov can you name diff. dances of the Native Americans? Call it laziness or apathy as well...all of the above. It's almost like Africans are ashamed that this might be a traditional dance of a specific region. But they can't name specific dances of other peoples either. Sigh.

  • I think this dance was really amazing... I am getting married and I want to know if the dancers are for available for hire?

  • @vibion1 where you based?

  • something about west african music i can't help but to move.. i miss dancing i might start with a class again..

  • I must be of Sengalese origin. How my spirit soared! I love this dance. It's somewhat like what we in the West Indies call shango.

  • Are the dancers American? The style seems American.

  • @nfahwi no, infact they're first generation Senegalese from Africa itself.

  • lol

  • 1-800-Fuck you

  • So you hired a trained chimp to dance for your party guest? Sounds like fun.

  • @1234righton no sorry, unfortunately i didn't have your number

  • @anything429 My two cents: I think you should have the comment from 1234righton removed, anything429. It's wrong and evil on so many levels. To have it be the first comment I was confronted with after seeing this clip is also offensive to the people and art form you documented,

  • @sr1781 Yes, I completely agree with you that it is indeed offensive, especially because these are my friend's parents. At the same time, I don't want to give whomever that was credence to have it there but for people to know that racism on this level exists no matter what. I didn't think it should be covered up with the intent of others on Youtube knowing that even though people like those don't deserve any minute of "fame" - it should be seen that these people will learn something

  • @anything429 WHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA@ unfortunately I didn't have your number. Drag me out cause I am DEAD! I'm sorry, I'm sure you weren't trying to be funny when you wrote that to the ignorant person, but that was fo-nay.

Aside from that great comeback...great video!

    -A

  • @AshikaMetisse lol, thanks. I thought I'd like to have a good comebacker for that ignorant fool

  • C pas du tout bon

  • Very spirited and beautiful!

Each move has a mwssage. ;-)

  • as a dancer i can reject all the ignorant comments placed on here by people saying that they cannot dance. I think they are wrong. I love African dancing because is about the rawness of the landscape, the strength of its people, the telling of the stories of their culture/tribes/history. I love the raw emotion and passion that comes so naturally. its fabulous!! i hope i can incorporate cultural dances at my wedding

  • Sorry if you think that I and others are a hater but I have studied with the best. And I am not ignorant. I used to be Co-Director with my old friend and sister N'Deye Gueye of Senegal in Thiossanu Africa Senegalese Dance Company. These sistas are good if they were at a Tanabeer at a Sabar street party but compare to professional/dance company standards they do not dance sabar well at all. Sorry

  • omg seriously Hervinbalfour it seems all "professionally trained dancers" think they knoare the best your egos outweigh your talent.U all bag each other out when really you should all be supportive of each other.

I bet you are one of those people who think they have the best technique, best lines etc but when it comes to getting people to pay for their performance, it would be obvious you are OVERRATED.ull prob say how u fill up stadiums cause ur that good.well it will show that you are lying!

  • good dance from start to finish!

  • None of those women can dance well......

  • greek or serbian wedding

  • I want to learn how to do AFRICAN dances.

  • :44-1:34 is my favourite part

  • All I can say is WOW that's amazing!!

  • It's called sabar.

  • nice vid...both senegalese and Gambians dance like this..i remember this dance so vividly..when i stayed in Gambia...this vid got me dancing like them..i can do it...just that its very exhusting dance...i miss africa(Gambia, senegal, Ghana)

  • Nice

  • im so gonna get dancers like them at my wedding

  • i was drumming in this video let me know when you get married!

  • i hate when people say AFRICAN DANCE..africa is a continent.....west african dance is not like egyptian dance or morroccan dance!!

people dont see south american dance or european dance..dont generalize all of africa!!

  • You're right, I wasn't generalizing Africa, I made it clear in the "more info" part of the video, just forgot to change it in the headline. That's all.

  • ohh noo i wasnt talking about u

there was just MANY other vids that said "african dance"

and some poeple's comments they wrote "African dance" as if africa is a country.

but the comment wasnt directed to u.

  • well the video is lovely and I hope you enjoyed your time at the weddingand I pray for peace, love and happiness for your friend..... good on her :)

  • Then West Africans need to stop referring to 'Africa' as if it's a country and that it's the same in every part.

  • haha you're right, I hate when people ask me how to say that in Asian language, wtf what is Asian language

  • and while we are on the issue of generalisation another point to identify is that each country in africa has their own versions of dances like say in east africa there may be similarities in the dance moves, there are also differences depending on culture and tribe same applies to west africa not every country dances the same and not every tribe in west africa either it varies

  • well I tell you what it's like latin dance it's so many different forms of latin dance like cha cha salsa etc ok maybe that was a bad example lol :)

  • I don't think that this dance should be compared or likened to Latin dance.....it's AFRICAN dancing!

  • what are you talking about? i never compared it to latin dace I said that africa has so many forms of african dance that it would be crazy to just put every dance in africa as just african dance!!!! get it now???

  • yeah it is lol..very bad

  • uumm ok?

  • @markee871

I agree with what you're saying, it's necessary to specify what type of dance it is and the name of the tribe in question, because even "Senegalese dance" would be vague, different tribes have different dances. However, I think that if he had specified, there would not be as many views. "African dance", no matter how vague, attracts more people than "wolof dance" or Senegalese dance.

  • @markee871 But I think it's correct o say African dance, since the country is on the African continent.

  • @ridim2007 no, not all africans are the same. north africans(sudanese, egyptian, morroccans, algerians, tunisians, libyans or somalian and ethiopians) are not like ghaninians, nigerians, and others. nobody on earth calls irish dance "european dance" ,the identify each dance to its origin,,,,dutch, italian, etc. dont clump all africa together, just becuz its on the continent doenst mean its the same. Mexico and USA are in north america, but u dont say "north american dance"

  • @markee871 , Ethiopia and Somalia are located in East Africa not North. And even though we Africans are different in our own ways, respectively, there is no greater honor (for me) than to be clumped up with my other fellow Africans. I'd rather my continent be looked at as a Unity than a Division.

    -A

  • @AshikaMetisse this unity concept is okay, BUT STILL, we are a continent, not a country..its already bad enough people assume africa is one big country with safars and poverty, we dont need to give ppl any more misconceptions. I never said ethio and somalia were in N. Africa, if I did it was an error of mine becuz I type fast and sometimes I list things quick without overlooking. I clumped those cultures together becuz they are soo distinct from the other group.

  • @markee871 People generalize all the time. When they say S. American dance, they think in specific dances to the region. Obviously, this is not an "American" dance style. It's indeed African.

  • how many vidoes have you posted this on. ok, we get it you dont like it, you dont have to. people put this up for others to enjoy.

  • you people are stupid if you think that African dance is dumb!!! It's an amazing culture dance thing. Well I take it and I will keep on doing it!! It's fun to learn the new dances! I've been doing it for 7 years now. Anyways like I said, people are stupid if they think this is dumb.

  • I joined YouTube so I could say thanks for posting this video. There is so much nasty stuff on here that says African Dance, thanks for posting something clean and real.

  • I wish I could get the words to the song that they were singing. I love this video I would love to have that performed at my wedding. My family is from West Africa and I would love to have that performed at my reception.

  • i'm albanian i love that for my wedding i think that so cool

  • wow that was cool! Thanks for sharing sucha beautiful performance!

  • thats tight!

  • wooaww amazing so much energy !!

  • i love ululation

  • my dear Senegal. This dance is beautiful. They dance "sabar" very well but senegalese in Senegal dance it better lol kisses. The way they dance here is "lebou"'s traditional dance.Lebou are ethnic and fishermen people in Senegal's cost.

  • I have to luv African energy!

  • damn, thats the authentic African dance.

  • Moving to Botswana next month. Hope to see, hear & experience something alike...

  • do it big momma!

  • "Ok, everyone form a congo line!" Yelled the groom. "Ooh no honey, im not wearing the right shoes!!" Cried the bride. That was Pheononamel!

  • REALLY TRADITIONAL

  • YESSS!! Man I'm up in my room dancing. Those drums! This is great!

  • Wow, what an energy !!! i love it !

  • Dam, this is nice, I can't stop shaking my legs, these ladies are on fire.

    ...African people, we'll be alright.

  • wat country is dis ooooooooo

  • nice. I see some heart in their dances. Well done!

  • Wow that was nice.

The beginning really set me off in the right mood :)

  • That was beautiful and amazing!

  • good job.

I really felt that deep down in my soul.

Im not even fuckin around i felt it.

    two words: beast like.

  • From what country are these beats and dance? I'm thinking Senegalese or Mali?

  • Its from Senegal/Gambia.. I'm not Wolof or Senegalese/Gambian, but i know that that's the Sabar drumming of the Wolof people :)

  • LOVE big mama! Wow, she stole the show. Good job to all!

  • She was amazing and inspiring...Damn!

  • WORK IT OUt!

  • Thanks to this dance company "Saba Aru Afrik" (?) and their ancestors this tradition was taught to them in Africa (!) and they in turn shared it with us here in America. I attend workshop with them when I can .... Awesome!

  • I love dis video...big mama was killin it for real!

  • the ancestors were definately present at this marriage. drumming sets womens souls on fire.great video

    Madasi

  • Love this.

Africa has some of the most beautiful traditions and cultures in the world , so diverse.

If there was no Africans, i dont know how the world would be, they've had so much influence in world music and traditions.

  • that was beautiful

  • that was a very interesting video... the rythym was definitely from senegal, as all sabar rythyms are. but i'm pretty confused about where those steps came from. any idea what city these people are from? just wondering.

  • well by the look of it growing up in gambia im not from there btw but from what i see it has a fusion of senegalees rythm and gambian dancing because they dance a lot with their feet and hands unlike the other african countries ive lived in so i think its from senegambia a country in between senegal and gambia because it has a mixture of these two cultures

  • That was a very nice piece. Very appropriate for a wedding..

  • beautiful.

  • aaaaaaaaaaah, Afrika, the greatest continent on EARTH!!!!! if it wasnt for your rhythms God knows where we'd be today

  • Get it mama!!! She killed it!

  • Man, this is amazing. Beautiful to watch..

  • Very cool. Thank you for sharing this. I especially like African dance because it's inclusive, not just for thin people.

  • i love it. beautiful dancing from our beautiful people but does this mean someone married someone white because there were sure a lot of white people in that audience..hmm..

  • what an ignorant comment to make.

  • how so? I just stated a fact. There are a lot of white people in the audience and though it would be admirable to think that the african culture is so appreciated that people from all races are acknowledging and admiring it, we all know that is not the case in general society. At least those of us that don't have our heads up our proverbial butts...

  • from my experience, i think that people from all races and all nations have the ability to honor and value the art and tradition of african culture. part of honoring it has to do with representing it correctly. accurate representation has to do with study and devotion to an artform and not the color of your skin. and what do you mean by "general society"?

  • I am getting married next year and I want this experience to be just as special as bearing children. I haven't hought of having African dancers brought into the reception but this is a great idea that I would look into! Thanks for sharing.

  • you should. Go for it! :)

  • Fantastic!!! it's just the beat of your heart, the roots... that's where all the rhythms in the world come from.

  • beautiful n that was hott .. shoot i might wanna have me sum african dance at my wedding

  • Absolubtley wonderful i love watching african dance i was wishing i was at the wedding(GREAT)

  • je suis tellement fiere d etre africaine

  • I luv this ...beautiful :)

  • this seems to be from gambia not senegal

  • it is from the senagambia region meaning from both senegal and gambia. Trust me it is from senegal or else my name isn't LatDior

  • damn straight, you tell em

  • very nice dance keep it up sisters!! :)

  • amazing. what a great gift to the bride and groom.

I wonder what is this dance and rythm because it's not sabar (wolof tradition)

  • its from the lebou people in senegal.

  • I second that notion

  • the rythym is barambaye. i have no idea what the steps are though.
