David Briggs [Neil Youngs best ever producer] carried around the origional tapes and stuff from the live recordinging sessions and up untill his sad departure from this fugue always said the live origional takes were really amazing and out on the edge ,spooky and raw rock and roll .

Reprise records Neil Youngs record label were startled like rabbits in a headlight when the origional tapes were given to them to press Neil Youngs next album .TTN eventually was released diluted though ..

I was under the impression that the cuts on Tonight's the Night were all the first or second takes of the songs, but apparently this is from a "rawer" version of the album(which is hard to fathom). I wonder if Neil will include this with the next Archives.
