Everyone hates on neons and its cuz they get beat by them. I don't care, for 6-8 grand you can get a srt-4 and beat cars that cost wayyyyy more!!!! I have had a few neons from base to a Srt-4 and I was surprised how quick they all were, even a EX bone stock had some get up. I beat many cars in my neons that even I didn't think I would even come close to beating!!
this is a dumb argument evo is amazing car and so is the srt. I own an srt and i go pretty much even with evos that have the same mods i lose off the line but have a better top end they balance out in the end they are both great cars
@RabungJ Don't get me wrong i love evo's i'm deploying in a couple of months and when i get back i'm looking at an evo or an srt-4 and right now power for dollar on the srt-4 is just amazing. They're not that expensive anymore, and they're not that expensive to mod. Plus with it being only FWD you will see more power to the wheels. You should do your homework before you bash on something you really don't know much about.

Different motor with a turbo on there. 04-05's were suppose to put down 235-245 to the crank they've been known to dyno those to the wheels. with very little modifications for instance, upper+lower intercooler pipes, aftermarket wastegate 3' downpipe, intake, free flowing exhaust, upping the boost on the stock turbo to about 16-17 psi srt's will run

I considered the argument to be ridiculous. They are both econoboxes, and in stock form neither are star performers in features and looks.
This a race between a bone stock Evo vs a Stock /mildly modified SRT-4. While the SRT-4 has 230hp, on a dynojet it often pulls more than that to the wheels. This is a rarity among production cars. A stock Evo IIV makes 276hp and after a 15-20% powertrain loss, they generally make about 240whp. Factor in a 300lb wieght difference. I'd have to say you're wrong. The srt4 has much great displacement and can handle some decent boosting. The evo's engine build quality is a little higher though. They're both based around a 420 crysler engine though. With the Srt4 running a 420t and the evo running a 4g63t.
ironically a friend of mine with a bolt on Sti and i ran into this very same evo years later. It too had bolt ons so what we did was his friend drove the evo and i drove the Sti.....the catch was the car owners would ride shotgun in the other car. It was funny watching the evo owner's reaction as we walked his evo in the Sti then to top it off i 4 wheel drifted the car with ease just before dropping him off. His reaction.....priceless. Its moments like that which remind me why i love cars

the neon srt-4 wasnt created to compete witht he evo and sti it was to compete with other import tuners, and set a scene for it in america... and look at the price difference, for the 18k u spend on an srt-4 u can send the extra 12-15k to make it way faster,nicer,and handle better than any evo... theres no need to bash american cars when the new viper and zr1 basically stomps every other european/japanese car made

The NDE tcs traction control system which eliminates wheelspin completely for us as we floor it. And its adjustable on different level settings 10 being the most aggressive.
And we also have the mopar toys bezel which fits in the dash and looks like stock where we can adjust the boostlevels to our liking according to the weather /racing etc. So we dont have half the problems that most people think we have as far as putting power down to the ground. Please do more research if you care to. Would you rather have the evo becuase you want to or because you see everyone else with it so you decide to get on the bandwaggon,
"Sophisticated systems" doesn't always mean faster. Nissan GTR is basically a computer but it loses to the ZR1 and SRT-10 ACR which are basically light cars with a big engines. The EVO cost twice the amount of a SRT-4 so of course it's going to perform better and be more technical. But I wouldn't spend $40,000 on a Mitsubishi. If I had $40,000, I'd be in a BMW 1 series.

It all depends on the circumstances. FWD/AWD/RWD has their highs and lows in different conditions. You can't say one is better than the other because I'd hate to have AWD in a 1/4 mile race, I'd hate to drive RWD in the rain and snow and I'd hate the fact that FWD car tires wear quicker than the others. They all have disadvantages and advantages. Tokyo Drift comes out and now everyone wants to claim AWD, bunch of posers.
Actually... AWD systems are greater then FWD and RWD systems only to a certain extent. When you start talking 9 second cars and such... awd has a real problem hooking. You can't warm the tires up and with all that power, they just spin. In my opinion, low 10 second cars and AWD go together excellent. Anything faster, better off with a modded suspension/good tires RWD setup. That >>>>> AWD any day.

Both drivers didn't know what they were doing.. my SRT stock motor cannot powershift 2nd w/o LOUDLY barking the tires. (Z rated 8.5" wide drag radials.. and no you cannot fit 8.5" wide tires on the stock rims.. those have been changed, but engine and tranny are stock)
HOWEVER!!! I have raced an Evo 8 (MR edition) on the 1/4 mile. I won by about a half car wholeshot. The evo has trouble getting off the line due to its AWD. 50hp more.. but alot more drivetrain to turn.
When have you ever read a magazine article comparing srt-4 to evo's or sti's? let me know when you never find it. ironically a friend of mine with a bolt on Sti and i ran into this very same evo years later. It too had bolt ons so what we did was his friend drove the evo and i drove the Sti.....the catch was the car owners would ride shotgun in the other car. It was funny watching the evo owner's reaction as we walked his evo in the Sti then to top it off i 4 wheel drifted the car with ease just before dropping him off. His reaction.....priceless. Its moments like that which remind me why i love cars

the neon srt-4 wasnt created to compete witht he evo and sti it was to compete with other import tuners, and set a scene for it in america... and look at the price difference, for the 18k u spend on an srt-4 u can send the extra 12-15k to make it way faster,nicer,and handle better than any evo... theres no need to bash american cars when the new viper and zr1 basically stomps every other european/japanese car made

UM so from a roll FWD>AWD go from a dig and even a below par evo driver like the one in the video should win. and whoever says the neon can handle anywhere close to the evo really needs to learn about cars. there is a reason evos and stis have become icons for rediculous performance cars and srt-4s are no longer made.

Can I just say this video is quite cool, the SRT obviously has more power than the EVO but with only FWD has trouble putting the power down.
SRT is the fastest production FWD in the world, but id still rather have the EVO.

The NDE tcs traction control system which eliminates wheelspin completely for us as we floor it. And its adjustable on different level settings 10 being the most aggressive.

And we also have the mopar toys bezel which fits in the dash and looks like stock where we can adjust the boostlevels to our liking according to the weather /racing etc. So we dont have half the problems that most people think we have as far as putting power down to the ground. Please do more research if you care to. Would you rather have the evo becuase you want to or because you see everyone else with it so you decide to get on the bandwaggon,

That sounds nice to have in car, but the EVO has much more sophisticated systems, active yaw control for example. Its TC is also more complex.
Given the same levels of tuning the EVO will always win.
The quickest way to accelerate is with about 5% wheelspin. TC on a FWD will just make a good driver slower. Its a good safety feature though.
I dont particularly love EVOs or hate SRTs I just think they are very different machines and while this SRT wins this drag, it loses overall for me.

"Sophisticated systems" doesn't always mean faster. Nissan GTR is basically a computer but it loses to the ZR1 and SRT-10 ACR which are basically light cars with a big engines. The EVO cost twice the amount of a SRT-4 so of course it's going to perform better and be more technical. But I wouldn't spend $40,000 on a Mitsubishi. If I had $40,000, I'd be in a BMW 1 series.

It all depends on the circumstances. FWD/AWD/RWD has their highs and lows in different conditions. You can't say one is better than the other because I'd hate to have AWD in a 1/4 mile race, I'd hate to drive RWD in the rain and snow and I'd hate the fact that FWD car tires wear quicker than the others. They all have disadvantages and advantages. Tokyo Drift comes out and now everyone wants to claim AWD, bunch of posers.

Actually... AWD systems are greater then FWD and RWD systems only to a certain extent. When you start talking 9 second cars and such... awd has a real problem hooking. You can't warm the tires up and with all that power, they just spin. In my opinion, low 10 second cars and AWD go together excellent. Anything faster, better off with a modded suspension/good tires RWD setup. That >>>>> AWD any day.

Really, SRT or no SRT- it's still a Neon chassis, FWD. Dodge aren't known for their attention to detail and technology development. Both drivers didn't know what they were doing.. my SRT stock motor cannot powershift 2nd w/o LOUDLY barking the tires. (Z rated 8.5" wide drag radials.. and no you cannot fit 8.5" wide tires on the stock rims.. those have been changed, but engine and tranny are stock)
HOWEVER!!! I have raced an Evo 8 (MR edition) on the 1/4 mile. I won by about a half car wholeshot. The evo has trouble getting off the line due to its AWD. 50hp more.. but alot more drivetrain to turn.
