  • LOL

  • I haven't used my cricut for a long time so stored the cutting mats. When I peeled the plastic protector sheet off some of the glue came off with it.. like a lot of it. Now the problem is the mat is not smooth but has patches of bare and patched of glue. If I do the Zig glue treatment you suggest, will the uneven surface be a bad thing. If so can you tell me how to remove the glue that remains in patches so I can get a "new" cutting mat result?

    Thanks

  • Great vid! I used a diffent method but this is a great one. I put my mat in my emty sink , filled my sink with warm water, ran my fingers around on the mat in the water for about a min., then i sat the mat out to air dry and, boom it looks great and works fine.

  • My gosh I literally just got a cricut this week and I guess I read over the manual a million times to make sure I wouldn't mess anything up but low and behold I put the mat cover back on wrong and ruined my mat. :C Cricut products are a bit more expensive and hard to come by where i live(Canada, figures) so this saved my crafty butt! THANK YOU ROBYN!

  • Great tip. Tfs. Debbie

  • thanks so much for sharing. i came across this video after i had bought a new mat so i went and got me some zig. thanks alot.

  • where do u get the zig glue stick?

  • where do u get the glue pen?

  • No. That will not work at all.

  • Hi Robyn

I'm new to all of this and I've watched almost all of your videos.I went looking for a Zig glue pen and tried it.It worked YEA! Thanks so much and keep the videos rolling

    .

  • You are so very welcome! I'm so glad you liked it!

  • You do know it voids the warranty on the machine!

  • Your machine warranty is voided after a year anyway. This will only void your warranty if you use the zig where the rollers will touch.

  • Comment removed

  • That will only work for so long. Your mat will lose all of the stickiness over time and this is a great technique. :)

  • This is a great idea! My question is how much is the cost of the glue vs. the cost of the mat? I've never heard of it, but I'm sure I could find it in hobby lobby or whatever local craft store. How much does a tube of glue cost you?

  • The glue is around 5.99 and you can use a coupon on it, too. So much cheaper than a new mat!

  • @robynstamps THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, Im running out to the craft store right now Thank you!

  • Lol, Episode 69 xD

  • I was told by a Micheals associate to buy the tube of glue for the slice machine to make my cricut mat sticky again, so I did and it wasnt cheap and I was not happy with the results. It was a little sticky but not enough to keep my paper from sliding around when it went through my cricut. I hate when that happens, I dont like to waste paper, so I am going to try this, at least if it doesnt work I can still find use for the zig glue pen, I dont know what to do with the slice glue. Big Waste.

  • oooooooooooooooooh!

  • I got the pen at JoAnn's with a coupon, so it was very cheap. This method worked really well on my Silhouette mat.

  • I love Zig products! Thanks

  • YES! Even water by itself will do wonders. I don't add any adhesives because the paper/fabric residues left on the mat can stick to the rolers in your machine or your projects. :( Just use warm water and rinse or soak your mat for a minute or two to help loosen paper and fabric residue, then use a dish scrubber lightly to remove the rest. Be careful not to scrub so hard you remove the "tacky." Air dry and viola! Almost new mat.

  • Hi all there is a good way to do this with Krylon® Easy-Tack™ Adhesive provides a repositionable bond on most light weight materials and may be adjusted, removed, and reapplied. I bought it at Michaels for $6.59 for big can and it takes very little to make the mat sticky and use over and over

  • Thanks for sharing this tip in a video. I was looking for something else and your video came up in my search.. Thank you.. I tried the spray and that didn't work at all... I have the two way glue, going to try that now!! Thanks again. :)

  • Thank you SOOOOO much for sharing this tip! The mats are very expensive so anything I can do to make the life of those mats longer is TOTALLY appreciated. Do you know where I can get them at? Michaels? Jo-Ann's? Thanks!

  • After my first use of my new Cricut Expression the mat wasnt sticky anymore. I was wondering, I havent got that type of glue so what other glue would you suggest to make the mat sicky?

  • So clever!! Thanks for sharing!

  • another thing you can do is make your own mats, buy using those thin flexible cutting mats-ya know the ones in the kitchen dept. i drew some ruler marks with a sharpie so it will line up correctly and so i would know where things were. then used my xyron repositionable cartridge to apply the "stickiness" to it. i also used the xyron on the orginal mat, works great. no smell, and like i said works great. just fyi :)

  • will those self healing mats work?

  • Not sure if you are asking me lol, but the cutting mats that I am refering to are the thin flexible ones. I don't think they are seal-healing. You have to trim them down a bit but they work awesome and I found them for $1

  • Awsome I have so tried the spray glue it stinks and doesnt work! The Zig glue works great! Thanks so much for the idea!!!

  • how much is the cricut machine

  • Check sellers through Google. The smaller Cricut is between $100-$160. The "Expression" which has a 12" cutting area can be priced between $190 - $340. I got the Expression during Black Friday sales for $188. You might even try Ebay.

  • @cixtalopez15

The Cricut Create is about 150 at walmart, but you can get it on sale at big lots for $100.

The cricut expression is about $280

  • @preciouslove2686 ebay has them super cheap and HSN has them at a good price too and it comes in a bundle with 4 cartriges for $230

  • I just got mine off ebay, new $185

  • just this past week someone told me to try spray adhesive. do yourself a favor and purchase some for your mats! way cheaper than buying new ones.

  • nice I am gonna try it too! Thanks so much

  • Be careful I think if you do this it will void your warrenty with cricut...THough I am going to try it but I have heard from groups it can void it

  • Do you wash your mat first and then put the glue on?

  • thanks i need to try it ,:)

  • I did this to my old mats and love the result. It actually works better than new mats. it doesnt tear or keep paper fibers like new mats do. I prefer this glue than a new mat. everyone should try it.

  • you can also use a spray adheasave or fabric tacky spray

  • where do you buy the zig pen ?

  • i bought mine online

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks Robyn! I just bought the zig pen and i am about to try it!!!

  • Yah!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Wow ! Thanks for sharing.

  • I have been using this technique consistently for the past 6 months or so ever since I first saw this video. It works GREAT! Thanks for the money-saving tip!

  • Wow! this is so cool!

    Thanks

    Deb

  • this is a wonderful tip, saves so much money. Thank you for it.

  • thanks to all who told you and you for the video.

  • Cool think I'll try that!!

  • After all the goody is gone flip it over and use the other side. Because you can see the grid it makes cutting or lining up easy. I used in my Sunday school class for finger painting pad and that works to (sticky side up, usually just enough stick to keep paper from sliding.

  • I bought the Zig's glue and this works awesome on the mats! Thanks for the tip! :)

  • hi, where did you buy the glue?

  • You can get them at Michaels, JoAnns, Hobby Lobby, or places online.

  • I stumbled across the tip of using basting spray for the mats! It works great, and doesn't gum up the blades...just my thoughts... :)

  • Hey Robyn . I have a different way to make you matt sticky again. I use spray glue and let it dry over night .. leaving me with a perfectly sticky matt .

  • @Yourantidepressent which spray adhesive do you use?

  • thanx! Thats cool!

  • wow! Thank you for that great tip!

  • My QuicKutz Silhouette carrier sheet has lost it's stickiness. I'm going to try this.

  • I use an adhesive spray that they use to hold stencils on your walls.. Just remember to tape the borders when spraying..

  • Yes, So do I! I uploaded a video today about how well this works!

  • I will definitely try this!!!! Thanks!

  • I am going to try this! I recently posted a video about baby wipes helping (or not helping) stickinness on cricut mats! I also heard spray adhiesive work good. i will try both! :)

  • THIS WORKS!! the mat is better than when it is NEW. it didn't curl or rip the paper like some new mats have done. RECOMMEND THIS FOR EVERYONE

  • Robyn,

Did you know that you can also use a lint (masking tape) roller to remove the little pieces of paper and that makes your mat last longer before you need to use the 2 way....

thanks for all of your wonderful instructions.

    ~Jill

  • You stole my idea..LOL Just kidding.. I have been doind this though.

  • I was wondering how to get it sticky again. I'll have to try this. Thanks,

  • Will keep this tip in mind. Thanks a bunch!

  • I like that fact that now I can re use my old ones because sometimes walmart doesnt have it in stock

  • where can you by the glue stick at??

    please reply

  • They sell them at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc. I think I might have seen them at Wal Mart, too.

  • How long does it stay sticky, I tried this with a different type and it didnt work

  • Mine stays sticky for over a month. :) This really does work REALLY well!

  • hey guys i use the 3M Super 77 Classic Spray Adhesive - it is a low mist spray and i don't have to worry about uneven applications and chuncking and too much stickyness - i just hold the can about 12" away from the mat and give it just one spray ! try it and the great thing it that 3M also had an adhesive remover just incase u have any mistakes to cleanup!

  • i did that a while ago and my paper got stuck.. lol

  • This is a GREAT tip! It totally works, don't be afraid to try it. I have had new mats tear some of my cardstock, so I was skeptical of this at first, but using the big chisel-tip blue Zig glue has made my mats sticky - and NO torn paper! Thanks Robyn!

  • how many times can you make your 12x12 mat sticky again with one of those zig pens?

  • Lots! Just clean off your mat first and let it dry then apply it again.

  • What do you use to clean the mat first?

  • You can just use soap and water. Use a wash cloth or dish scrubber with the soap and water. Let air dry then apply your Zig.

  • I just use dish soap and a tooth brush and then let it air dry. works every time

  • I have been told baby wipes work great.

  • I tried using that glue and used too much, what a mess. you should tell people to use the glue sparingly. Great idea!!!

  • The reason I love to use the Zig 2-way glue pen is that it is fast and easy! You don't have to tape anything off. With a coupon it only comes to around $3.99 and lasts FOREVER! :)

  • You can also use Easy Tac from Krlon. It's 6.99 a can at Micheals and with a coupon...CHEAP...It will last a long time. Can also use for temporary adhesives.

  • You can also buy the Martha Stewart brand glue at Michael's and use the 40% off coupon and it works great!!

  • What a great tip...will save money and time! Thanks!

  • this tip saved me a whole lot of frustration today. the people at Michaels were total idiots and just told me to buy another mat, then i pull out my iphone, found ur video and was able to prove the workers wrong...and save my mat at the same time. :D THANKS!!!!!

  • neat idea!

  • Hey we do have a Hobby Lobby here, but, it's tooo far away. I called Michaels and they have it.

  • I live in chilly detroit, mi, I don't know if we have a Hobby Lobby, I'll look it up. Thanks

  • Hey, thanks for the tip! My husband bought the smaller zig pen for me, where did u get the bigger one? However, it didn't work as well on an older mat I had. I could make shapes but not phrases. On my newer but almost gone mat it worked.

  • I bought the bigger tip at Hobby Lobby. :)

  • Comment removed

  • I use glue spray repositionable and clean first my mat with baby wipes, it works fine.

  • GREAT IDEA.....thanks for sharing. I just got my cricut and was thinking I was going to have to buy another mat..but now I wont have to for awhile.

  • Aileens tack it over and over and the new glue for the SLICE works perfectly

  • wow thanx for the video it's a great tip

  • I use vellum adhesive spray, works great! Just a quick spray and your done!

  • another great item to use to keep your mats sticky for a long time is quilt basting spray. this spray is awesome and lasts on a mat for a long time! you can buy this can of spray for 3 dollars and is in walmarts sewing section or go to a place that sells sewing material.

  • another great product to use to keep your mats sticky and is faster then using the zig is quilting basting spray! this can is awesome and lasts for a long time when applied very very lightly on a cricut mat. you can buy this can in any walmart or sewing store. try it you will like it.

  • great..thanks for the tip. i will share this with my cricut buddies. also another great thing to use to make your mats sticky is quilt basting spray! this works awesome. spray very very lightly about six inches away and will last for a very long time. you can buy this spray at any sewing place or in walmarts sewing section. the can is turqouise and blue 12 oz. like i said very very lightly over the mat and you will be ready to crank the cricut!

  • great idea I have like ten mats

  • I've found that the Martha Stewart brand of glue lasts much longer than the Zig! :)

  • Which Martha Stewart glue do you use?

  • I use the Large Chisel Tip glue by Martha Stewart. The tip looks almost identical to the Zig one, but the MS glue is stickier and much longer lasting. :)

  • Great! Thx!

  • Cool thank you, I must go and buy one of those glue sticks!
