J O my friend(s). You taught me to open my nose, and never be afraid to be afraid. You knew it was about to come undone. You payed the price for throwing the dice in the air.
Yes you are right. I need to stop telling lies that people who knew John have told me. You are exactly right. I need to stop being so factually accurate and informative. People who actually knew John know nothing about him obviously. So why should I believe anything they say? They're all filthy liars! I agree with you.
so was the mystery ever solved? Is that John's guitar riffs or Earl Slick? Or will we ever actually hear the last little bit of Lennon we have left to treasure?
In a bit of a creepy note, John was carrying a briefcase containing the master tapes to this song when he was shot. When he was shot, he dropped the briefcase and all the tapes fell out onto the ground. Sorry to be morbid, but eh.
@lildarkhorse What mystery ITSsaid on the 45 SLEEVE lead guitar =John Lennon also i had heard Lennon talking about his whammybar guitar work on the track... also lennon talked about the 12 inch mix hed done for the club djs- AS FOR yOKOS PART i remember her saying bk in 80/81 that i didnt really have anything to do with the track outside of john saying ok get in the box and sing those lyrics.. he'd pretty much made the whole song down
iLOVE THIS song Too,,BUTJOHN LENNON WROTE ALL THE MUSIC AND ARRANGEMENT for' walking on thin ice ' HE PLAYS ACOUSTIC GTR,KEYBOARDS, AND ALL THE WAMMY BAR LEAD GUITAR..... yoko even said i didnt know what he was doing.. ALL he kept saying was IM going to write you a hit. RECORD ..she said he just got me in to do the vocal.....
This song is an all-time classic! The ultimate disco song of that period. One of the best songs Lennon ever took part in. And Yoko shines like the true angel she is. We are so lucky to have this music in this world.
hating yoko ono is such a cliche. lennon's first album after the beatles broke up is better than any beatles album. i don't think she affected his art in a negative way-- just made him more bored with the constraints of playing in a famous pop group. her art's ok on its own merit, but of course it lacks that special something that makes lennon's music so much more resonant. i don't mind this song, but without her attachment to lennon, i wouldn't be listening to it right now.
@NeilFraudstrong I'd chime in here with the next verse, but I'm not clever enough, and I'm still too ashamed of myself...No, the part about throwing the rice in the wok did not make me laugh out loud. No! I swear to God it didn't...
I heard so many mixes of this, but in this one you can actually hear Johns guitar quite well! Thanks for sharing!
I don't know every song Yoko ever wrote, but 'Walking on thin ice' is really cool and stands out I think. I like it very much. Maybe Johns guitar made the song. Don't know.
Frankly I also like Yokos singing on that track. I must be daft. So yeah, 5 stars!
John's guitar riffs that he recorded in the last few days of his life are missing from this mix. That would be his last recorded work. Jack Douglas contributed the missing percussion. Chris do you have any bootlegs of John"s guitar work from the sessions. Earl Slick is heard on this mix. Thanks again for all this great stuff
The source on this tape said that these were the overdubs that John recorded on the night of his murder so I went with it. I will have to study my other copies of Walking On Thin Ice from the Double Fantasy sessions to see if I can determine which one was the last take before John's murder.
Like I said, the source said this was the mix they used on the night of his murder so that's where my information came from.
This sounds like the basic track recorded during the Double Fantasy sessions. In December they went back in the studio for overdubs. John's lead guitar, Jack's percussion and additional vocals by Yoko. That poem in the middle.
Chris, I sent you a couple of links but I have original source material, interviews with Jack Douglas, Yoko and the Rolling Stone issue following Lennons death at home regarding this. Steve Miller in Abracaddbra ended up copying Lennon's guitar riff a couple of years later.
Chris, Roling Stone issue 1/22/81 (lennon naked) page 67 has an interview with Jack Douglas titled THE LAST SESSION. Lennon recorded additional guitar and keyboards on thursday 12/4/80 mixed on friday 12/5/80 and final touches?? on the nite of 12/8/80

BTW I'm giving this 5 stars because it's Yoko's best work and a very important historical piece.

That's a very solid alibi for posting this one. However interesting, can't rate it five stars though. Three will do.

Haha.
While I would normally hate to see a three star rating on any video of mine, in this case I think you rated too high.
