The fact there's a real estate affordabilty problem in Australia is well known. Howard reduced interest rates, sending the real estate sector into a frenzy between 2000 - 2007.What this meant was that the banks were (are) financing overpriced property rather than having that finite money put to better use in the commercial, industrial sector.
