While it's still mostly their main genre, MH haven't been pure groove/thrash since the 90's. Breakdowns, that particular type of chugging riff, vocal harmonies... this is another step in the metalcore-tinged direction they've been following since Empires, and they're getting progressively better. I love it.
@JohnnydeKing29 actually the main riff is a metalcore riff (verse riff), because its played in the same way as a metalcore riff, and uses exactly the same technique, so that is, but that doesn't make the whole song metalcore at all.
The more I listen to this the more I think that this is the best Machine Head record I've ever heard. I love Burn my eyes, The More Thing Change and The Blackening but Unto The Locust has something else, it has more soul I would say...
@sunshinethor420 Machine Head has a bunch of these 'positive power' songs, like 'All in your head' and 'Wipe the tears' and some more. This really reminds me of those songs, which is a good thing.
Unto The Locust is an amazing album but it just can't compete with the perfection that is The Blackening, apart from this song UTL is a much more melodic album, and doesn't quite match the heaviness of songs like Clenching The Fists Of Dissent or Wolves.
@Vaz2112m locust man...the blackening was just "heavy" this album showed the power of emotion. flynn is one talented motherfucker, writes the best lyrics in metal. these guys proved they are mature on this album and showed that it doesnt always have to be about bone crushing riffs to be heavy...flynn is pretty much my idol at this point haha
AN ABOSOLUTLY EPIC FUCKING ALBUM. THRASH RETURNS!!!! AND MACHINE HEAD BROUGHT IT BACK!!!!!!

@Maximusthecock not even, it sounds like an outake of Sepultura's Beneath the Remains, but the vocal style isn't very old school thrash
gojirametallica 16 hours ago
@gojirametallica Just my two cents... but this is way better than anything Sepultura has ever done.

@Maximusthecock sounds a bit like August Burns Red meets thrash to me.

It's only 7:10 PM, but it's dark. So technically this is considering "Disturbing the peace." Here's hoping the cops have a great taste in music!

What an album! Questionless in the top 3!
But I can't decide which one is better: Burn My Eyes, The Blackening or Unto the Locust...
