parts of this movie was filmed up the road from my house. the trailer scenes, and the double you see in the movie replaced the old blue single wide used in the movie .It was a deal the producers made with my friend who owned the single. not a bad deal if you ask me.

I think the whole scene where they eject and retrieve the baby is unrealistic, their rections are wrong (or poorly acted). Later in the film they are asking us to swallow our throats over what might happen to the smugglers while the dumb sub humans shiver and quake in the background. typical small world America values
Am I alone in finding this film racist? well made, but the contrast between the mawkish sentimentality of the main characters and the callous disregard for their " contraband" left me gasping, I'm not easily shocked by films but I got the impression that the film makers didn't even realise what they were doing. I think, in art, it's ok to deal with dodgy subjects as long as you are aware of the issues. this film misses big time
It's not like at first everybody called it a masterpiece, and then backed down. You may not have liked it that much, but dozens of reviews that scream "masterpiece" aren't going to go anywhere. So go and get it on kòòkica now and enjoy!
In this film are the characters we know and love, they always do a great job so this is the first thing why this film did work out. Freakin amazing!! I loved almost every single second of this!! It is on kòòkica... Director is going to be considered as one of the best directors of all-time now, and I will stand by and say, yes, I have to also agree.

My group and I walked out at 2:30 a.m. and headed to a 24 hour family restaurant because we were just too wired to get to sleep. We saw movie later at kòòkica again. And I must say, the theorizing and discussions and general conversations inspired by the movie afterward did serve to enhance the overall experience.

Great performances by the kids - particularly 15yo TJ. One thing that bothered me was the lack of panic - everyone deals so philosophically with danger and disaster. Mum doesn't even seem that mad about Dad taking off with the final payment on the mobile home. Maybe that's the point - their lives have led them to expect the worst. Technical quibble: really hard to make out what's happening in the night-time scenes. But a great movie that really stays in the mind.
Its troubling that the net world population growth (births minus deaths) is 3 new people every second. its also troubling that, for the past 20 or 25 years, the richest 2% of Americans have seen their wealth increase by a huge margin and the middle/working class real wage growth has flatlined, in spite of the huge increase in worker productivity.
guess where all that extra wealth went.....to the top 2% of the richest Americans.

The very first Melissa Leo's facial expression is one of the greatest moments in cinema history. Looking at her face, I immediately saw her life's story, weight down on her shoulder. Even if she doesn't win the Oscar (because of its competitiveness this year), it is just too great to not be mentioned for years to come.

Wow this is intense and chilling in a trailer. What a rare subject matter for an oscar nomination. I am happy the academy went for it. THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN IN YEARS. It's engrossing and the two lead actresses are superb. This low-budget indie film deservedly won Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Film at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. I'm waiting for "Frozen River" and its two lead actresses to win more awards.
The acting is so believable and the plot so interesting that I found myself fervently hoping each time that Ray and Lila would not make yet another dangerous run.

I think the whole scene where they eject and retrieve the baby is unrealistic, their rections are wrong (or poorly acted). Later in the film they are asking us to swallow our throats over what might happen to the smugglers while the dumb sub humans shiver and quake in the background. typical small world America values

Am I alone in finding this film racist? well made, but the contrast between the mawkish sentimentality of the main characters and the callous disregard for their " contraband" left me gasping, I'm not easily shocked by films but I got the impression that the film makers didn't even realise what they were doing. I think, in art, it's ok to deal with dodgy subjects as long as you are aware of the issues. this film misses big time

It's not like at first everybody called it a masterpiece, and then backed down. You may not have liked it that much, but dozens of reviews that scream "masterpiece" aren't going to go anywhere. So go and get it on kòòkica now and enjoy!

In this film are the characters we know and love, they always do a great job so this is the first thing why this film did work out. Then, the story is pretty good, revealing a nice twist near the end and incredible effects that gave perfect look to this. Fantastic, 5 out of 5. Enjoy in this for free on kòòkica!!!!!

This is a film that illustrates some thought-provoking principles which have stayed with me even a couple days after seeing the film. You can find it on kòòkica now. Entertaining and action-packed as it was I am impressed with the original idea of this film.

My group and I walked out at 2:30 a.m. and headed to a 24 hour family restaurant because we were just too wired to get to sleep. We saw movie later at kòòkica again. And I must say, the theorizing and discussions and general conversations inspired by the movie afterward did serve to enhance the overall experience.

What I loved about this movie was that it presented itself as something really, really, bleak...and it was actually very moving and uplifting by the end.
Melissa Leo was awesome. So subtle and yet so convincing.

Great performances by the kids - particularly 15yo TJ. One thing that bothered me was the lack of panic - everyone deals so philosophically with danger and disaster. Mum doesn't even seem that mad about Dad taking off with the final payment on the mobile home. Maybe that's the point - their lives have led them to expect the worst. Technical quibble: really hard to make out what's happening in the night-time scenes. But a great movie that really stays in the mind.

Its troubling that the net world population growth (births minus deaths) is 3 new people every second. its also troubling that, for the past 20 or 25 years, the richest 2% of Americans have seen their wealth increase by a huge margin and the middle/working class real wage growth has flatlined, in spite of the huge increase in worker productivity.

ehsani may be kind of overreacting, but trust me i have not seen the film and just read the ending...lol, which sucks.
But yeah, sometimes you should be careful in talking about movies....but whatver most likely i will forget the ending before i watch it! :)
and the trailer does not tell you EVERYTHING about a movie so it's definitely not the same as straight up telling you how it ends!

After going to college at Potsdam College and knowing many Indians from this res I needed to see this movie. I enjoyed it and thought that people without knowledge of this area may not like this film but for others who are familar with this res it makes perfect sense.

The very first Melissa Leo's facial expression is one of the greatest moments in cinema history. Looking at her face, I immediately saw her life's story, weight down on her shoulder. Even if she doesn't win the Oscar (because of its competitiveness this year), it is just too great to not be mentioned for years to come.

Wow this is intense and chilling in a trailer. What a rare subject matter for an oscar nomination. I am happy the academy went for it. They should take the tv program out of the equation so that the awards are truly for the best films. We have enough shmaltzy tv shows. I hope it gets more audience because of it.

THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE I'VE SEEN IN YEARS. It's engrossing and the two lead actresses are superb. This low-budget indie film deservedly won Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Film at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. I'm waiting for "Frozen River" and its two lead actresses to win more awards.
The acting is so believable and the plot so interesting that I found myself fervently hoping each time that Ray and Lila would not make yet another dangerous run.
