  • He slept about 12 hours a day, having afternoon naps. He felt that he was a mere ceremonial figurehead, and that Americans had to make up their minds and he'd show up and sign stuff. He didn't feel Presidents have any real power. Mr. Harding was very ill and his wife ran the country as the real President. It was hushed up. It was hard for her cuz she had very little formal education -- most girls didn't back then. Uprated.

  • Too bad he & Bush ended their term in economic collapse.

  • Yes jackdonkey, bankrupt the country, prolong the depression, continue the failed tactics of Hoover and increase the scope of government.

Well done. His policy's are still converting Keynesians to free marketers to this day

  • There is a big reason people remember FDR as one of the greatest Presidents and Coolidge isn't even on the list.

  • @jackdonkeymagazine The new deal failed, and he was a racist. He put the Japanese Americans in concentration camps. The only reason why we remember him is because he was a war president, and was a great speaker. Aside from that, he was mediocre. Calvin Coolidge was a smart, non intrusive man when it came to government. He kept the free market "free" and Ronald Reagen was heavily influenced by Coolidge.

  • Probably my second favorite president of all time, just behind Taft. What a fantastic example he lead, we absolutely need another Calvin Coolidge.

  • @truthslap

How can you like both of them? Taft and Coolidge are Political and Philosophical oppisites. Taft was a pro big goverment progressive. Coolidge was a Small government Consitutional Conservative.

  • @deadbutmoving Taft conceptualized world peace through arbitration, settling international disputes using arbiters and courts, rather than wars. he secured arbitration treaties with Britain and France. He strongly opposed the 18th amendment, he refused to get involved with the fight over the panama canal, he left the political situation in Mexico alone. He split the republican party against progressive Teddy Roosevelt. nobody respected the Constitution more than President & Chief Justice Taft.

  • This is great! I just love Calvin Coolidge, my favorite U.S. President! What a menagerie of critters the Coolidge's kept!

  • Sorry...factual error. Lindbergh's flight from New York to Paris took place in 1927.

  • my last name is coolidge

  • Calvin Coolidge is one of my favorite presidents.

  • Calvin Coolidge reminds me alot like Ron Paul - A real conservative.

  • Definitely---Coolidge kept taxes low and wanted the government to stay out of the economy. Calvin Coolidge, like Ron Paul, understood that the free market works and the government should not spend a lot when there's a recession.

Too bad we have phony "conservative" hacks like George W. Bush and Lindsey Graham, and insane liberals who think that now is the time for socialized medicine.

  • Amen to that..

  • @Justgetout

Actually, while Coolidge was a conservative, he was a believer in federalism and as such he believed it was the state government and local governments job to support workers rights, impose economic controls, and other "progressive" measures.

But as President he believed that the office was not to be involved in such affairs as I stated earlier. This was the normal philosophy before the New Deal. Sadly after the New Deal we have not come back to this type of federalist approach.
