Yes it is fun to do that from time to time. A shooting buddy of mine did that all the time with my ammo and his pistol as well as some of pistols. He went through 500 rounds of 45acp in no time flat one afternoon with 2 - 1911's. When I went to shoot it the ammo was all gone, needless to say I was pissed. Now I let him shoot my 22's only unless he buys ammo for anything else he wants to shoot. He's kind of a cheapskate so neeless to say he's developed a preference for 22's.
Unfortunately that's true. My buddy the "cheapskate" called me to go shooting over the weekend. I told him to be sure to buy some ammo for the guns he wants to shoot. I told him the prices as well, he was shocked at how much ammo now costs and said he would only shoot 22's. He called me back the following day to cancel because apparently he blew his whole paycheck one day after payday on who knows what. As they say in Russian "Toughsky Shitsky". LOL

Yeah 22's are about the only thing you can affordably plink with anymore. Unless you shoot your friend's ammo of course...
