@DeathORPunani The thing, is my school is a really small school. So i'm pretty much an only asian there. But i have this one friend who made little jokes here and there, before I transferred but then he stopped. It's okay once in a while. It's just that sometimes people are so ignorant and annoying.

@MildTen However, European cultures like the ones you mentioned aren't discriminated against in North America because they're white. Stereotypes against white people aren't harmful, whereas these ones are because there is a history behind them.

@onceme2u I know its possible.. just very rare.. and having 3,4 girls with eye lids in a 2 min video??? im willing to bet not all of them are natural lolll
@MrJosephheller Very rare? Is this a fact? I'm assuming that you researched Koreans thoroughly since you claim to know so much about their genetic structure. |:
@MrJosephheller Yes, I am Korean. Sadly I'm not fluent in the language since I was born and raised in Canada. But I can say this..Naver and Google is hardly a firm foundation to base your assumptions on. I don't need to look at Korean girls through the web, since I have many Korean peers to relate and compare too. And there is always the occasional double eyelid. But the issue here is the fact you blatantly accuse of these girls of having surgery....
@estherkang what are you talking about. Im not telling you to make a judgement based on Naver or Google.. However, those sites have links to screenshots of a scientific korean tv show which did a study and found the average facial sturcutre of korean female. Guess what?? no eyelids.. The doctors explanation to why then alot of korean women double eyelids?? you got it.. surgery.... Now if you're not even 100 percent korean and your trying to fight a legitimate study done by korean
@estherkang scientific shows and plastic surgeons, I dont know what to tell you...Maybe you naturally have double eyelids and you dont want people thinking you got a surgery. But the truth is, it is very rare.. Jeez..
@estherkang So, if you want to make assumptions based on the kroean peers around you and deny what they say in a study done by a respectable teams of doctors, go ahead.
"Im not good at math, but I bet Im taller than you." yes. ohhh yes baby. LMFAO 72 average and 175 cm.. im not boasting, im just sayib, that stereotype is bull.
i love this video they so adorable i love korean people!!! :) and @dog meat comment... is that said about all asians cuz that's a stereotype against the chinese where i'm from which is soooooooooooooo stupid!! >_<
Im so pleasure to see this video :) and i hope many people all around the world see this and change their thought about Korea! And i am korean too. ive never eaten dog meat before.!
"I'm not good at math but i bet i'm taller than you"
I'm black and seeing that made me laugh because if i was in this, I'd probably have to stand next to him and be like
"I OWN math and im probably shorter than you ... I know I'm shorter than him"
Stereotypes really hit home for me too because I live on an island so many people automatically assume "Oh she's from the bush and probably lives off coconut" >.<
Thank you so much! I am a Korean adoptee in the States and whenever I want to learn about the modern Korean world, I always hear about eyelid surgery and stuff. It worried me a lot, but I am so happy now! I love that girl's eyes too! :)
AS for the eye lid surgery, who really cares i mean if people wanna do it DO IT, there is no problems and I think Asian eyes are very pretty and really cool when they put on eyeliner and make up (espsically Visual kei style stuff) having a crease is that special, and if over ratter i think hehe...Lol...really people say Konnichiwa (which means Hello not good afternoon) never witnessed that but other asians think my husband is indonesian or Chinese or from HK not korean lol
Koreans usually ask How old are you to know how to adress and talk to you. even if your 1 yr apart in age u have to speak to that older person More politely and so forth As for eatting dog, i know there are people who do , who dont and who respect those who do but dont.
My husband is Koreaan and he has never eatten and nver will but i have and i am not even Korean lol
I'm Korean, and I'm always annoyed when people come up to me in school and say "Konnichiwa!" I even have a guy who insists that China, Korea and Japan are all the same place. :|
This is adorable! I've definitely heard some of those stereotypes before, and it's nice to see kids speaking/writing out against them. The crack about being tall was cute and funny, because most of my female Korean friends are really short, while my Korean guy friends are really tall! :)
I think the main people (that don't live in Asia) know that they don't speak Japanese, eat Dogs or do Martial Arts, are kpop obsessed people xD b/c we love the music so much that we for some reason learn a lot about Korean's and their culture xD Love this video, btw :)
i just love Korean girls, can i merry all them, the one in this video i mean..i guess no right?, ummm...how about if i give them one million dollars,1:20 is the Qts one, if she merry me ill teach her English my whole life, even to our 20 kids, too many right? man!!! how about.5, ok? deal, my request is to see her in another video saying yes i merry u,nice clip, but when u understand that u got the power to create life experiences, emotion and circumstances is irrelevant what other think about me
@leep801 ~ hey! i'm onto it! i've asked soul park for an English link, and i'll post it here when i get it. in the meantime you can check his Youtube channel at /SevenDialsUTube
@leep801 i got the link!!!! you can check the description box for the link to download his songs and album from an English site which will work in North America~ thanks for enjoying the video and music! Soul Park is a great friend of mine, and he will really appreciate your support!
I bet he's not taller than me, some stereotypes are stereotypes because they have fact in them. The average asian is shorter than caucasians, end of story. In my school i would be suprised if i see an asian over 5 ft 10. Whereas white teenagers easily reach 6ft.
I really enjoyed this video because it is based on stereotypes. I'm Brazilian so when I meet people they think that I'm tan, extrovert, they think I love soccer and Carnival, but in reality I'm white, I hate soccer/Carnival and I'm very quiet. Stereotypes just don't work. Before I went to Paris I was told how rude the French are, but I found them to be polite and helpful when I needed. Stereotypes might be of some true, but there are always the exception to the rule, everybody is different.
The real question is why do people care? To point one out, why is it such a big deal that different culture eat dog meat. You should never impose your own morals on others. While it's admirable that your students tries to "break" stereotypes this way, they shouldn't have to explain themselves or think negatively about things like eating dogs or doing martial arts.
How can people not tell the difference between the written part of the Korean language and the written part of the Japanese language? I mean, they are so easy to tell apart and I don't even read either.
@TheNinjaOfSilence They never tried to study them. My friend once told me: "If there are circles, it's Korean". I think that it's true. I've never seen a Hanzi in a circle shape and the only kana that looks like a circle is the Japanese NO.
However, every time someone says one of these ignorant things to me I try to use it as a chance to inform them. Many times they had no Idea why their comment might be a source of annoyance.
1.)I dont think stereotypes are the problem... Stereotypes easily turn in to predudice, which is a problem... 2.) Many of the things they mentioned I had no knowlege of before coming to korea... for example, when I made friends in korea I learned that so many of them had or were going to get eye surgery... 3.) what if its rude in my culture to ask "how old are you?"
@icphares yea but that doesn't mean you should assume that koreans have had surgery, which typically many people do... and 3) as a Korean I don't see many Koreans asking this question overseas.... it's really just applicable to when you're in a country that uses honorifics. and trust me, as a college student I still get asked many times how old am I when I meet people for the first time, mostly from Americans. Are they rude? no
@tokee1234567 Right. I empathize (no sympathy) with most of them. I get the same. Ex) isn’t negative or positive when one assumes I’m a basketball player—then surprised tohear Im not. (true many of my race are) But,when u get the same thing so often, it’s annoying! I’d love to say at one time to all, No, Im not, Then quickly move on… There are many more examples… and the staring, second looks, and saying wow, at the sight of me gets equally bothersome… btw I live in Korea.
@tokee1234567 To Criticize: there are real negative stereotypes/misconceptions of Asians which are deeply imbedded in western society. These are very serious(e.g.) preventing Asian exchange students, tourists, and Asian Americans from fair/equal treatment in their lives. In my opinion the video feels more like a kind-hearted personal venting episode (fare). But it’s hard to take it as a serious effort to combat the real problematic stereotype issues Asian people face. Or am I expecting too much?
@icphares of course it is! this isn't about stereotype ASIANS face. if you look at the title it says "Korean," specifically Koreans living in Korea. of course this doesn't even generalize to the entire Asian population in western countries. I mean you can try....
lol don't say こんいちは to me. I'm not Japanese. I don't know about you but here in america everyone says Ni Hao to asians. NOT EVERY SINGLE ASIAN IS CHINESE!
@shaSuSoshiC I know right!!!? I have a friend and she said Ni hao to the asian boy at my school and Im like how do you know hes chinese? he could be japanese or korean.... and shes like, all asian speak the same..... Im like -__- finally I just said Anneyong-ha-sayo and left
Awesome vid. :) I'm an American who's been teaching middle school in Korea for over a year now and I have to say, a Lot of the stereotypes that westerners have about Koreans (and Asians in general) are so untrue... totally the result of misperceptions propagated by outsiders looking in.
I'm not even asian but I'm always annoyed by people and their stereotypes -.- I don't know why it's so hard to understand that there are different countries and different cultures with different people...
@pumpkin1977 In my opinion, understanding another culture is fairly difficult. Unless you've immersed yourself within the language and culture, it's not easy. Daily habits, language, values, etc. it all comes to play in how we act and react. Even between family members, we can't always relate to each other. Understanding someone else completely is impossible, but we could give tolerance a shot.
@BonbonKaneWagaMehLin of course it's difficult^^ and I'm not saying you have to understand every culture that exists cause that#s jsut not possible...I just don't understand why it's hard to understand THAT different cultures exist^^
this is all what my friends say and i try to tell them Asian is not Asian-there are soo many different cultures and you cant just go up to a person saying Ni-hao,that's about as racist as calling somebody a n*****,people need to get over stereotypes and embrace differences or stay ignorant in the dark
This is so... inspiring for me :) I hate when I tell people I want to study abroad in Korea and they ask if I'll eat dog meat or say 'konichiwa' or look out for bombs.
that's so cool! haha i like the one that said "i'm not good at math but i bet i'm taller than you"
I'm chinese but american, so i understand asian stereotypes and when people who are not asian come up to you and the first thing they ever say to you is something in chinese or another language that they think you speak. Just kind of annoying. (i can speak chinese though and I speak with my parents in chinese! represent!)
I've *never* thought Koreans eat dog meat, need eyelid surgery, are specially talentedf in math, or know marital arts.
If you don't want me to say "Konichiwa' to you, please tell me to say 'An-nyeong-ha-se-yo'.
Not everyone holds to stereotypes, and to say that they do could be construed as a stereotype itself.
It seems as if we *all* have a lot to learn about each other.
Who wants to try first?

nudge235twin 1 month ago

This is adorable! I've definitely heard some of those stereotypes before, and it's nice to see kids speaking/writing out against them. The crack about being tall was cute and funny, because most of my female Korean friends are really short, while my Korean guy friends are really tall! :)

MattRodrig 2 months ago
Bit of a different opinion here. I'm 1.5 generation Korean American.
I've eaten dogs before, pretty tall, done tkd/muay thai/kendo.
The real question is why do people care? To point one out, why is it such a big deal that different culture eat dog meat. You should never impose your own morals on others. While it's admirable that your students tries to "break" stereotypes this way, they shouldn't have to explain themselves or think negatively about things like eating dogs or doing martial arts.

cool, but how would u explain the "Peace-hand" thing (the two fingers next to the face) just like how the girl in the middle did in 1:56 ..

How can people not tell the difference between the written part of the Korean language and the written part of the Japanese language? I mean, they are so easy to tell apart and I don't even read either.
TheNinjaOfSilence 2 months ago
@TheNinjaOfSilence They never tried to study them. My friend once told me: "If there are circles, it's Korean". I think that it's true. I've never seen a Hanzi in a circle shape and the only kana that looks like a circle is the Japanese NO.

However, every time someone says one of these ignorant things to me I try to use it as a chance to inform them. Many times they had no Idea why their comment might be a source of annoyance.
icphares 2 months ago
1.)I dont think stereotypes are the problem... Stereotypes easily turn in to predudice, which is a problem... 2.) Many of the things they mentioned I had no knowlege of before coming to korea... for example, when I made friends in korea I learned that so many of them had or were going to get eye surgery... 3.) what if its rude in my culture to ask "how old are you?"
icphares 2 months ago
@icphares yea but that doesn't mean you should assume that koreans have had surgery, which typically many people do... and 3) as a Korean I don't see many Koreans asking this question overseas.... it's really just applicable to when you're in a country that uses honorifics. and trust me, as a college student I still get asked many times how old am I when I meet people for the first time, mostly from Americans. Are they rude? no
tokee1234567 2 months ago
@tokee1234567 Right. I empathize (no sympathy) with most of them. I get the same. Ex) isn’t negative or positive when one assumes I’m a basketball player—then surprised tohear Im not. (true many of my race are) But,when u get the same thing so often, it’s annoying! I’d love to say at one time to all, No, Im not, Then quickly move on… There are many more examples… and the staring, second looks, and saying wow, at the sight of me gets equally bothersome… btw I live in Korea.
icphares 2 months ago
@tokee1234567 To Criticize: there are real negative stereotypes/misconceptions of Asians which are deeply imbedded in western society. These are very serious(e.g.) preventing Asian exchange students, tourists, and Asian Americans from fair/equal treatment in their lives. In my opinion the video feels more like a kind-hearted personal venting episode (fare). But it’s hard to take it as a serious effort to combat the real problematic stereotype issues Asian people face. Or am I expecting too much?
icphares 2 months ago
@icphares of course it is! this isn't about stereotype ASIANS face. if you look at the title it says "Korean," specifically Koreans living in Korea. of course this doesn't even generalize to the entire Asian population in western countries. I mean you can try....

Awesome vid. :) I'm an American who's been teaching middle school in Korea for over a year now and I have to say, a Lot of the stereotypes that westerners have about Koreans (and Asians in general) are so untrue... totally the result of misperceptions propagated by outsiders looking in.

I'm not even asian but I'm always annoyed by people and their stereotypes -.- I don't know why it's so hard to understand that there are different countries and different cultures with different people...
pumpkin1977 2 months ago 35
@pumpkin1977 In my opinion, understanding another culture is fairly difficult. Unless you've immersed yourself within the language and culture, it's not easy. Daily habits, language, values, etc. it all comes to play in how we act and react. Even between family members, we can't always relate to each other. Understanding someone else completely is impossible, but we could give tolerance a shot.
BonbonKaneWagaMehLin 1 month ago
@BonbonKaneWagaMehLin of course it's difficult^^ and I'm not saying you have to understand every culture that exists cause that#s jsut not possible...I just don't understand why it's hard to understand THAT different cultures exist^^

this is all what my friends say and i try to tell them Asian is not Asian-there are soo many different cultures and you cant just go up to a person saying Ni-hao,that's about as racist as calling somebody a n*****,people need to get over stereotypes and embrace differences or stay ignorant in the dark
