@Magoo108 - Hello Norway ! Thanks for responding with this additional tip ! My Brother is a skilled fly fisherman and I hope to have some video's by him. I have not been fishing in a while. If you have some videos of your fishing I would love to see them. - Feel free to post a video reply with some more fishing tips.
@dogman75 This video was shot in Lake Tahoe and that is a Mackinaw trout, Salvelinus namaycush, are the big predators of Lake Tahoe. After being introduced into the Tahoe from the Great Lakes in 1886, they rapidly displaced the native, legendary Lahontan cutthroat, leading to the extinction of the cutthroats by the late 1920's. The mackinaw are now the most popular sport fish species at Lake Tahoe, since they provide good action for anglers
hey does any1 know a website for freshwater fish you can eat? my parents just bought a house down in south carolina and so we will go fishing there.. would be nice to know what fish can or cant we eat xD and also how big do they have to be to keep or throw back
The background color of the body is usually dark gray, but varies from pale to almost black. The entire body except for the belly is covered with large pale spots. The dorsal and caudal fins are marked with dark wavy lines and spots. The caudal fin is deeply forked. The head is pointed and the body is relatively slender.
Yes I think so but someone was telling me that this is an unkind way of gutting the fish if there is a better way where the fish feels less pain then please (anyone) let me know !
In 2003 Dr. James Rose published a landmark study in the journal Reviews of Fisheries Science, concluding that animals need specific regions of the cerebral cortex in order to feel pain. And fish do not have them. Course if you don't believe this you can always knock the fish out with the handle of your knife or just stab it in the head.
Fmm... i wish i had a closeup of that. I used to know how; my grandfather was a great outdoorsman and he taught me how to basically do that to a trout so that everything inside came out in one neat piece.
I don't have a close up of that but if you look to the links on the right you can find some other examples which I found interesting.
Thats great that your grandfather thought you that - It is good to hear that families still go hunting and fishing together and enjoy the great outdoors. Personally I love lakes and hiking around mountains myself.
I've never gutted a fish, but I can surely tell this guy had loads of experience! I've been wanting to go fishing for quite a while and perhaps eat my catch. Hopefully I can at least be half as good as this guy!
I know what you mean ! This guy did like 10 fish in no time flat on a speeding boat. The lake was clear that day and the ride smooth but still we had bumps for sure. This is on Lake Tahoe and you have to fish down 96 feet to get these fish.
well thank you - however this was one of the boat hands - I have far less experience but thought the same thing. This was done as the boat it wakes and was moving at full speed.
I think.. that fish was awake lol Poor fishy, atleast smack it in the head or on the deck lol

Tip the fish up a bit and towards your knife hand and swiftly cut to the anus.
The guts should be hanging over your right hand, cut the anus and the guts will fall free.
JOB DONE!!
Gutting knives in the UK are commonly of a 3" blade and razor sharp (Geman made!) with an ordinary pocket knife shape.
You should, with a bit of practice be able to gut a fish every 2-3 seconds
Sorry, dont have a video to show you, hopefully someone will!!
cadfael9798 1 year ago
Let me make it easy for you!
From the front, take hold of the fish by the head, turn it over onto it's back.
Insert the knife through the gills so that it comes out of the middle of the throat, having severed the gullet.

Are the innards edible? Or can you feed it to your cat?
mikeym820 2 years ago 5
I would avoid that and as far as your cat I would stick to organic cat food sold in high end stores.
MYSOCALLEDLIFE 2 years ago
I think you forget that cats are animals, if they sniff it and dont like it they probably wont eat it.
skiie 2 years ago
Awesome logic. Try it with your dog and chocolate.
jimjins05 2 years ago
LOL, you don't eat guts :SS
As for cats, they love it, especially fish heads^, when you cut them off, don't throw 'em away, give them to the cats ^^

well... you could make caviar from the eggs, but can't do more than that

I've heard that fresh water can damage the flesh of filleted fish. Is that true?
aillama 3 years ago
actually I had not heard that - maybe someone else that watches this clip can respond ??
MYSOCALLEDLIFE 3 years ago
Fresh water harbors much more bacteria than salt water, this is why only salt water fish are used for sushi. As long as you cook it you are fine.
kronnyqq 3 years ago
I am still training on that.
