I believe it only effects how long the prayer bonus lasts (Number of bones) People have gotten Dragon fulls with only normal logs (And I hate those people :P)

I've killed over 200 mithril dragons and got chewed bones only once. They gave me 3 unfinished rannar potions. I still kill them sometimes when I'm out of things to do, but it's not really a good moneymaker.
