nice car man sounds good, i notice your setup is similar to mine, i swapped my hks 272 cams for gsc s2 cams, i noticed a big midrange top end improvement, no power drop off just consistent pull to 8k...somethin you might wanna look into eventually down the road.
@EVOLUTlONX Tune that was on car was shit. only making 365whp, 390 tq with 93 oct pump gas on a dynojet dyno. Took it to VividRacing when I got to AZ and they tuned it on there mustang dyno and got it up to 425whp, 365 tq with 91 oct pump gas and it was way way more driver friendly. Alamo autosports in TX was the shop that did the piss poor tune. I will never go there ever again.
@nemesis2293 those sons of bitches tried that shit with me too, kept saying something about being a boot camp sergeant or some shit in san diego, and he was buying it for his son
@nemesis2293 car is very reliable and fun. But only 3500 with only 43,000 miles doesnt add up. Find a mechanic to help you look it over and make sure nothing is wrong with it. Right now it sounds too good to be true.
I see I see. Do you launch the car a lot? Do u have any issues with grinding gears? Im used to my STi having a pretty bulletproof drivetrain which I launched quite a bit with no problems. What is the mileage on your car if you dont mind me asking? Sorry for asking so many questions im just trying to learn a bit about these cars before I pick one up!
@tomac661 First off you should not launch your car a shit load unless you are racing. You can seriously fuck shit up if you have an aggressive 2 step rev limiter like I do. not just with the drivetrain but also with the turbo assembly. I go to the track ever other weekend and do 4 or 5 passes a night. So do the math. NO issues grinding gears at all. No worries about the questions. Ask away. I have spent the last 2 years building and researching the evo so i will point you in the right direction
@tomac661 i drive an evo 9 gsr and all im saying is be care full they can have some seris power i drive mine daly on pump at 345 and i have a race tune for e85 for a lil over 400 whp be car full of the tranny shit will break if u beat on it i dont lounch my car just do hard pulls with it and no problem with it
Sweet, car sounds great. I just sold my STi and am looking for a clean evo. Have you had any issues with transmission or transfer cases at all? From what ive read the evo 8's seem to have these issues?
@tomac661 Thanks man. I will warn you that building a fast and reliable EVO is VERY expensive. The only issues I have had with the trans. are:
1. The clips on the Throw out bearing broke (stage 2 Comp. Clutch kit.) causing the brass retention clip in the pressure plate so snap out.
2. Clutch master cylinder and line blew out due to high pressure from the stage 4 competition clutch kit. (I replaced the stage 2 with the stage 4 once we where making over 400 whp).
@tomac661 Other than that I had the stock shifter bushing and base bushing swapped out with the Buschur Racing ones. ( HIGHLY SUGGEST TO DO THIS WHEN HAVING SHORT SHIFTER INSTALLED!)
Once these issues where addressed I have had no issues with my 5 Speed trans. Shifts fast and smooth!! (If you get the 6 speed that is where you will run into a shit load of issues.!)
@Nt4Cox haha i know what you mean. I'm working on a 1g DSM with a 4g64 swap. I'd love an Evo in the future though. I think I'll need a shep or dogbox racing tranny rebuild in the near future haha
Yes you can and will still have A/C. The FP RED and BLACK are stock location turbos. This means you wont have to move anything around in your engine bay. Stock radiator, a/c, power steering pump all work.
Yep, the cams, injectors, and tune on the aem ems helped achieve that. Lol actually thoes are low numbers for my setup. We did a very mild tune back then to help break all the parts in right. You got Over 450 whp. Nice. What mods u got?
Not on any applications I have seen. I have seen a couple guys from my area try and run 450hp plus on stock head but have tore there shit apart. I would only do 425 to be safe. And yes i have seen people achieve 500whp on 91 oct but they had some serious modifications. HUGE turbo, injectors, cams...ya know all the goodies. Right now we set my boost down to 22psi and im makin the numbers I told you about.
We are gunna put a bigger exhaust manifold and intake manifold on it, put the boost up to 26psi ,do another tune on 93 pump gas and we should be lookin at 400+ whp
yeah mine stays at 11.5 too. But on this day we decided to put some E85 in the tank and we added a little to much so it made it run lean. Check my new vid out. " turning onto freeway on ramp"

@Nt4Cox sorry guys for the nerdy question.. but what AFR should one attain in general, for a good tune?
@ WOT of course.
Also, if it's not much to ask, what if it's NA, what good WOT AFR values should one work on?
One last question... does it matter to tune on any gear, or is it just best to tune on the direct drive gear?

sounds like a greddy rs bov. My buddies 05 evo with a fp green sounded just like that,
b00b00 2 years ago
Nice how does he like the FP green? FP red kicks ass.
Nt4Cox 2 years ago
He loves it. I love it also since I drove it. I havent drove a evo with a fp red yet but i heard it awsome.
My buddys evo mods where
fp green
272/272 hks cams
ams fromt mount, with lower IC piping
full exhaust and intake.
It pulls very nice for putting down 330whp on a mustang dyno on shitty 91 cali gas.
