@samtelvis because a relatively high percentage of gay men are HIV-positive. it is well-known that HIV is most common in gay men (in the US for example, 80% of all people with HIV are gay men), so the risk of having sex with someone who's positive is a lot higher than it is for heterosexuals. It's not like some homophobe assholes made that up, it's just the hard and sad truth.. :(
I am very surprised when Ollie said he is HIV positive I just wasn't expecting that! Also, for the poster that says HIV is cliche doesn't have a clue. The truth is in the gay male community this is VERY REAL so credit to the writers for discussing this issue. Forbidden Love deserves a lot of credit for doing this storyline. It definitely happens this is no joke.
As much as many of us would like to kick the stereotype of gay men with hiv/aids, it's true we have higher risk than most couples, but that's just the way it is. It still doesn't mean we all will have it, not even close to all of us, but we still are always at risk and it's a tricky subject to go on with.

Man, rebecca is stupid sometimes. They just spent months in turmoil and being jealous over kissing other people and she thinks it's plausible that they would have an open relationship?
you know why i frigging love olli?! when someone breaks that kind of news to you, most people's reaction would be at worst to freak out, but usually, most often, to think of themselves first. that's just human nature. but olli reaches out for this jonas guy, not only despite the connotations it might have for him individually, but without a second thought, despite the fact jonas has just told him he is positive.
i just think olli's an amazingly empathetic character.
What I like most in this soap is that they are always dealling with some social problem that people must ponder a little bit. HIV is sexual desease and as long as I know not only gay have sex. The heteros hide their deseases much more and here in Brazil a lot of women as getting it because of there husband. Good job for Das Este team und du Nana.

Strange that I've seen condoms lots of times on AWZ (Deniz and Roman) and on Gute Zeiten Schlechte Zeite (GZSZ) in the sex scenes with the gay couples (Lenny and Carsten use condoms all the time). So it's weird now that I only just now realized that I've never seen condoms associated with a VL sex scene between Christian and Olli.
Obviously not all couples (gay or straight) are having penetrative sex every time they have sex but you'd think VL would have at least shown a wrapper. LOL

Jo and Thore are involved in raising money for an AIDS charity in Cologne. They appear at public funcions for it.There just might be a connection with this SL. I think the proceeds that they raised from GOOL in NYC this past March went to this cause.

I've liked the Olli/Christian story so much - because it's been fresh and original. Yes there have been health scares, but that was Christian's heart complaint.
This story is now on the brink of being a tacky stereotypical "Ooooh AIDS!" melodrama. I hope they sort it out and ditch it asap.

Great acting episode, but this new storyline is a little confusing. I mean, Olli & Christian have landed in the hospital multiple times & I would think that they would know by now if one or the other was HIV+. From the way Olli was talking, he & Jonas were together a long time ago. I don't know too much about this topic, but wouldn't symptoms have shown themselves by now? I also think it's ironic that both AWZ & VL are doing an HIV storyline.
I think this is the first time ever the subject is brought up to scene. Nanna correct me if I'm wrong...It is funny because recently I was telling a friend that I liked a lot this soap because gay couples in it were not associated to promiscuity nor AIDS, but well...I think it's always necessary to promote social conscience on the subject, but let that not only be in gay people!

One VERY IMPORTANT thing that I've noticed lately, is that the KISS is getting BETTER and BETTER!! I mean..their kiss now look more REAL than before. More passion, more..heart..being put in it. I love it!!

I'm starting think that Rebecca must be ESN. After all that carry on over Rob how can she possibly think that Christian would ever be okay with Olli seeing other people, or vice versa? It begs the question why they would ever consider this little twit to be their best friend.

Strangely identical to the current plotline relating to the other famous gay couple on German TV, Deniz and Roman. In both cases, great writing, and true to what countless gay men have been through: countless healthy, uninfected gay men. But HIV isn't peculiar to gay sex or gay men - it can be transmitted by certain types of sexual contact between ... persons. We see endless heterosexual couplings on both soaps: no one seems bothered about HIV. So what does this tell the German viewing public?
Have to wait til the next episode to see what happens, but it seems a bit strange that Olli and Christian wouldn't have been tested at some point, especially when their relationship became so serious?! They even did a vlog about safe sex! Maybe it will all be explained....

I don't know about anyone else, but usually I lift weights BEFORE I take a shower. And as far as Rebecca's questions, unless there is some other reason within the show for her to be asking the questions I think the writers just needed to establish the fact that although some couples have open relationships Christian & Olli were monogamous and therefore assumed that they were not "at risk".
@yamdev11 I guess when you are having sex in barns and in the middle of fields, you might not always be prepared, but yes, you would think the subject would have come up. Hopefully they won't spend much time on it and they just wanted a way to adress the issue before Chroli gets married.

She's making money by selling her bags to a shop in London, (remember when she made that bag for christian, someone's paying her to do it now). Don't know if her family have let her around any other money other than what she earns though.
I find this plot twist hard to believe. Are the writers trying to tell me that Christian and Oliver didn't discuss and practice safe sex -or- didn't do the standard monogamous progression to condom-less sex, i.e. wait-test-results-decide? Knowing Olli's character, he would not have done anything else but one of the aforementioned two options! Any self-aware, non-self destructive urban gay male knows this - and so Olli knows this. Two big thumbs down! :(
@arthurthecaterpillar. I'm having trouble buying into this SL as well. It just seems too "far fetched" for me. I know AIDS research/education is near and dear to Jo's heart so this is important to him but the writers could have come up with a better way to tell the story; they could have had Olli running errands and happen to witness 2 cars collide and ran to assist the victims, only to learn that one of them was HIV+. That would have been more believable plus the threat would have been fresh.
Yeah, but come on, it wouldn't have the same impact at all if it were two day player extras. You cause more concern and interest in using familar and well loved characters.
@tihkon2. I see what you mean but I meant if Olli had unknowingly tended to a bleeding HIV+ victim of the accident without gloves and was now concerned he could be at risk. To me that would be a more believable story. It just seems so unheard of that Chrolli would push for AIDS awareness & safe sex on the vlogs and have no clue regarding their status.
@reieto - I agree. While I may appreciate the spotlight the show will attempt to shine on HIV awareness, this plot-twist is highly inconsistent with Olli's character. Never mind, the politics of it are somewhat late (gay man = health scare). Boo!

@Gallifrey75 Over all yes the rates are higher for people engaging in straight sex but alot of AIDS groups have noticed the rates among young gay males in the west have started to rise again and it's a concern that younger men just don't have the awareness of disease.

@0202rere Rebecca was basically asking if Christian and Olli have a relationship where its ok to have sex with other people, because she saw Olli hug his friend...Even though they've never ever given any sign that they see other people and Christian has a jealous streak a mile wide...So she's either trying to stir things up or has no brain at all, I'm past caring really...
Even for a badly written, changeable character like Rebecca, this stupid scene was really, really, really bad!

I don't really understand why Christian stays friends with Rebecca. What a fumbling meddler she is. Anyway, Christian definitely knew what he was doing when he came out of the bathroom with a towel and weights. ;) I guess Olli has given him the "all clear" to start working out again, though this hasn't been covered in the show. I am surprised that the boys haven't been tested, what with their big PSA on the vlog last year..

Jo and Thore are involved in raising money for an AIDS charity in Cologne. They appear at public funcions for it.There just might be a connection with this SL. I think the proceeds that they raised from GOOL in NYC this past March went to this cause.

I've liked the Olli/Christian story so much - because it's been fresh and original. Yes there have been health scares, but that was Christian's heart complaint.
This story is now on the brink of being a tacky stereotypical "Ooooh AIDS!" melodrama. I hope they sort it out and ditch it asap.

We've ALL done this. Get tested - sure we all should, but I've been with one partner for 23 years and we've never gotten tested. Are we irresponsible? You tell me. It seems so unrealistic to me that after all this time Olli/Christian had not been tested for HIV, it´s so reckless, irresponsible! Great acting episode, but this new storyline is a little confusing. I mean, Olli & Christian have landed in the hospital multiple times & I would think that they would know by now if one or the other was HIV+. From the way Olli was talking, he & Jonas were together a long time ago. I don't know too much about this topic, but wouldn't symptoms have shown themselves by now? I also think it's ironic that both AWZ & VL are doing an HIV storyline.

I'm starting think that Rebecca must be ESN. After all that carry on over Rob how can she possibly think that Christian would ever be okay with Olli seeing other people, or vice versa? And don't get me started on the gay stereotyping or her attempt to stir things by making out that Olli must be up to no good. It's a hug in a public place Rebecca. Friends do that. Strangely identical to the current plotline relating to the other famous gay couple on German TV, Deniz and Roman. In both cases, great writing, and true to what countless gay men have been through: countless healthy, uninfected gay men. But HIV isn't peculiar to gay sex or gay men - it can be transmitted by certain types of sexual contact between ... persons. We see endless heterosexual couplings on both soaps: no one seems bothered about HIV. So what does this tell the German viewing public?

I don't know about anyone else, but usually I lift weights BEFORE I take a shower. And as far as Rebecca's questions, unless there is some other reason within the show for her to be asking the questions I think the writers just needed to establish the fact that although some couples have open relationships Christian & Olli were monogamous and therefore assumed that they were not "at risk".

Thanks for the upload Nanna! :-) I am hoping that Olli is just freaking out because Jonas is the first person he has been with that is HIV+, I am sure Christian & Olli have been safe, but there is always a chance I guess, thats why I think Olli is so upset. I don't think its because he and Christian haven't been using protection. I am praying that Olli will be ok and in turn Christian too, I mean they have been through so much, things surely can't get worse. Can't wait to see what happens next.

I find this plot twist hard to believe. Are the writers trying to tell me that Christian and Oliver didn't discuss and practice safe sex -or- didn't do the standard monogamous progression to condom-less sex, i.e. wait-test-results-decide? Knowing Olli's character, he would not have done anything else but one of the aforementioned two options! Any self-aware, non-self destructive urban gay male knows this - and so Olli knows this. Two big thumbs down! :(

@arthurthecaterpillar. I'm having trouble buying into this SL as well. It just seems too "far fetched" for me. I know AIDS research/education is near and dear to Jo's heart so this is important to him but the writers could have come up with a better way to tell the story; they could have had Olli running errands and happen to witness 2 cars collide and ran to assist the victims, only to learn that one of them was HIV+. That would have been more believable plus the threat would have been fresh.

@tihkon2. I see what you mean but I meant if Olli had unknowingly tended to a bleeding HIV+ victim of the accident without gloves and was now concerned he could be at risk. To me that would be a more believable story. It just seems so unheard of that Chrolli would push for AIDS awareness & safe sex on the vlogs and have no clue regarding their status.
