  • Dude thanks for this, now I can use my kb/mouse for both of my Arch machines :). By the way, I had to change /etc/X11/xserverrc file to allow for tcp connections to X.

  • did you find out how to enable the mouse pointer-cursor?

  • @JAndrioli: No, I haven't looked into it much. sorry

  • @Mobilizujemesk: Sorry, I had to block you for excessive. You've made 20 posts to this video in the last hour. You did the same thing yesterday and I had to go through and delete them. I'm not sure if you are doing it on purpose or by mistake, but it was just to much. I'll unblock you later, but for now I had to stop it.

  • @Mobilizujemesk: First off, why do you post every comment 5 times? Also, this isn't a Windows Channel. Windows is a waste of time. People who use it waste other peoples time. I don't do the Windows thing. I used Windows years ago and it was years of my life wasted. I'm glade to not have to use it now that I have learn about Open-Source. I wish I could help you more, but if you are insisting on using Windows, your in the wrong place.I don't want to sound mean, but I don't have time for Windows.

  • hi.. a dont know what i actualy do... how i know my desktop ip adress and my user name?... and i dont install anything?

  • @Mobilizujemesk: you computers ip can be found by typing 'ifconfig' in the terminal.

You user name is the part of the prompt in the terminal before the '@'

  • @metalx1000 but this actually work only with Linux? i have WIndows... some intstrucitons and... what i must install?

  • @metalx1000 but i must hwave Linux? i have Windows... and what i must install... some instructions pls

  • @Mobilizujemesk: Windows Does not use X for it's Graphical Interfaces, so x2x will not work unless you install something like Xming. So you have 3 options:

    1) use Synergy instead

    2) Install Xming on your Windows Desktop

    3) Fix your desktop by deleting Windows and install Linux. This will not only fix this problem, but most of your computer issues.

Plus, owning an N900, doesn't it make you feel weird that your Phone is more powerful then your Computer?

  • can you PM me a link to the x2x.deb. it's not in the repositories (non of them), I found it on the debian repositories and I downloaded "arm" and "armel" versions but when I try to install, in the Problems tab it's written "Incopatible package"

  • @AORNOfficial: Are you trying to install it on the phone? If so, you don't need to. That's one of the great things about x2x, you only need it on one of the machines, and it doesn't matter which one. So if you have it on your desktop then you are good to go.

  • @AORNOfficial: On your phone run this command:

    ssh -X user@192.168.1.101 x2x -south -from :0

change user to the user on your desktop and change the ip to your desktops ip.

This will make it so when you move your cursor on your desktop off the bottom of the screen it will come onto the top of the phone's screen.

Unless you are using a program with a visible cursor you wont see it on the phone, but the keyboard should work (at lest the basic letters, there are some issues with other keys.)

  • @metalx1000 thanks. I'm on a win 7 with ssh client and server intstalled and I can't seem to find an x2x package for windows. do I need to install it in something like cygwin?

  • @AORNOfficial: I have no clue then, but you should be able to get synergy for both the phone and for Windows. I prefer x2x, but the one advantage of synergy is that is works in Windows too.

Could always delete what Microsoft Crap form your computer. But, if you were ready to do that, I guess you would have already. Well, maybe some day.

  • @metalx1000 well I'm not a microsoft fan myself (hence the reason why I bought n900 instead of some winmobile crap) .. but me and my brother use the same pc, he plays shits like metin and world of warcraft so I can't delete windows. I used to multiboot with ubuntu but my hdd is full now. thanks for the help, I'll try with synergy

  • Mr. Metalx1000:

Let me see if I understood this:

You can use a common mouse and a common keyboard(I mean wired ones) pluged to a pc or notebook that are already connected to internet , so you can acces to this 2 devices through the internet? I mean....N900 can connect this 2 devices through internet in order to use them as peripherics?

  • @Medranitos: Yes, the N900 is just like any other Linux computer. With ssh you can log into a remote machine and control it in anyway. It's the same as sitting at the computer. You can use a program called x2x with ssh to link a mouse and keyboard to a remote machine through a network. Since you are using ssh everything is secure and encrypted. Hope that answers your question.

  • I have tried it but get ssh: not found on my n900. Do you know how I can get it?

  • @Kratje: I thought it was in the default repose. Must not be. I'll send you a copy of my apt source.list.

  • just have to tell you once again how good this X thing is :)))))

  • is it possible to use the mouse in games like quake?

  • @BodzioEntertainment: Yes, the only issue I could see it that if you set your desktop to be to the north of the phone, if you move the mouse up, you would move the cursor back on to your desktop. But, as long as you didn't do that, then it should work.

  • Great vid bro. Man... Peaple who already know how to use an do great things with the n900... Makes me feel like in iternity untill I get mine :( [ one more week]

  • Hi!

Great Video and many thanx to you for posting it, it works great!

But I have a question: You said, that it is possible to show the cursor outside the browser, too. I didn't manage to find a possibility to enable it, yet. Perhaps you could post a short answer how to do that, if you do so, I was very pleased.

    Greetings from Germany!

    Please excuse my bad english!

  • @PongPongDudlDu: Sure, I haven't done it in a while. Actualy I haven't done it on my N900 yet, but I did do it on my N800. So, I'm sure it can be done. There is just a config file somewhere in your home dir that you change to say something like "cursor=true"

I'll look it up and get back to you soon.

  • whether it is possible and win 7?

  • whether it is possible and win 7

  • nice

  • hey im a windows user, where i can download x2x for windows 7 ?

  • @icould90: Windows doesn't use Xorg, so x2x won't work. You can look into Synergy or, Linux is very easy to install and has way more uses and features then Windows. Plus, it's Free in more ways then one.

  • This video is great. But I'd like to connect the mouse directly to N900. I'd like to 'remote control' my computer using N900. It would be nice to plug the N900 to a dock station. Is is possible?

  • @georgepaulus: There is a Program called BlueMaemo for the N900. It will turn your N900 into a Mouse/Keyboard for your computer through BlueTooth. I don't thing there is a Docking station. But, you may be able to do something through USB. But, BlueTooth is more convenient.

  • @metalx1000 That's great. I'd like to use the N900 to control my computer, but using the internet. I want to leave my desktop turned on at home control it using N900 and VNC or Logmein. I know it's possible, but for it to be perfect I need to connect Mouse, Keybord and monitor to the N900. Imagine the computer portability if you do that with a N900.

  • @georgepaulus: sure, there are VNC clients for the N900. And they work pretty good. But, I'm not a huge fan of VNC. I prefer ssh with X tunneling. I find it to be faster and it's encrypted. Although you can always tunnel your VNC connection through ssh as well.

  • sweet

  • awesome you made me want to learn linx man

  • You should. It is well worth it.

  • can't you just use bluetooth ?

  • That would be a completely different situation.

A bluetooth keyboard/mouse will still only control a single computer at a time. With x2x you can control an unlimited number of computers at once. You can do it with any keyboard or mouse, so you don't need to buy a bluetooth keyboar/mouse if you don't have one. x2x will also sync your clipboards so you can copy and past text form one machine to another. It basically turns another computer on your network into another screen.

  • oh ok thanks for the respond take care :)

  • simply awesome :D 5/5 faved.

  • Tnx finally i got it to work :)

tnx for the video and that you keep it simple :)

    just love it :)

    Best regards :)

  • Cool

  • Cool!

Are you going to install MeeGo on your N900 when it gets released? I hear it could be as soon as the end of this month... at least a beta or something...

  • I most likely will at some point. I'll have to wait and see some videos of it.

  • great vid
