@punkprincess571999 dont think its better than otis version myself, even though i still like this, you should look up craig davids acoustic live version, its pretty good aswell
To people saying he ruined the song, no he didn't, because Otis Redding's version still exists, if you prefer that one then go listen to it. Stop compaining just because Bolton did his own version and it happens to be different.
What a life sitting waiting for something to change in one's life! But that is the reality of life and Michael Bolton waited 18yrs to be recognised as a singer. What a bum-numbing experience! But a character building one as well.
i shook steve croppers hand in the early 90s, and duck dunn, eddie floyd, i think this version is great, i think for otis this was a one off, it wasnt what he did at that time, yes its soulful, but a big change in direction, never the less, a great song and a great interperputation by both singers
I can understand why some people would have a problem with this interpretation, considering Otis Redding just poured so much soul and emotion into his music and he did it so effortlessly.
Still, to say that Bolton ruined this cover is just silly. I understand people can have different opinions, but Bolton's voice in my opinion is pretty outstanding in its own right.
I Love Micael Bolton's music. I think he has a fantastic voice. You people should be thankful for a fantastic singer who put's all his heart and soul into every piece of music he does!!!! Some people just need to get a life and grow up!!!!!
I Love Micael Bolton's music. I think he has a fantastic voice. You people should be thankful for a fantastic singer who put's all his heart and soul into every piece of music he does!!!!
Some people just can't help but be lame. I never really understand studio covers unless they drastically change a song. (Hendrix's Watchtower, GNR's Knockin on Heaven's Door). All Bolton did was white it up.
after listening to this one for so long i recently heard otis redding's version and i gotta say i much prefer bolton's cover. to me it seems like bolton puts a lot more emotion and pain in his voice and i like it.
Don't forget, he did this with Neil Schon and jon Cain of Journey. After they did this the rumours flew around that Michael was going to be the new singer for Journey. Could have been interesting

It seems no one here can get a simple reference to Office Space correct. The phrase is "no-talent ass-clown." And frankly, in my opinion, this version is plenty good. It was good enough for Otis' wife, who has called it the best version since her husband's.

this song is an atrocity, and should be destroyed. you shouldnt be allowed to disgrace such an excellent song like this. Otis' version was perfect and couldnt have been done better
Ah, no way! I think both versions are fantanstic, however different the two versions are. From a rock perspective, this is a masterpiece. From a soul perspective, as you said, Otis had it perfectly. But of course not everyone likes soul, so to have different interpretations of a song is always a great idea. AND, to have two versions that are impeccable in their own right, just goes to show how versatile and brilliantly made this song is. :D
@juiceymz Interesting definition of 'soul'. To me it appears to be a frontal psychological structure designed to project an image of soul, and is not rooted in the presence of a real soul. Or I could spare you the psycho-spiritual terms and just say that it's a load of phoney old shit :)
Lol Michael Bolton ruined a wonderful soulful song with this cock rock garbage. No wonder "Michael Bolton" from Office Space calls him a talent asshole. =)

there aint nothin wrong with this cover... he puts his own soul and style into a conversion of a great song by otis redding and i dont think its bad at all... to all people who are saying negative things....just appreciate something different for what it is and dont hate on music if you dont understand he redid the song for a wider audience of fans and to respect otis for such a classic wonderful song... he tried his best and put his hard into it....
You have to admit that Michael Bolton has talent... But Otis Redding (although he died at 26) was one of the greatest soul singers. Otis captured this song in a way Bolton never could, instead Bolton butchered it by trying to make it seem like he's this sensitive guy and singing about what he see's. RIP Otis Redding

I am insulted by your insult The biggest lie was when your Momma told you she loved you. That should have insulted your attention.

Why make such a racist statement? Can't we just appreciate or not appreciate talent without regard to race?
