  • This is an okay cover, Redding and his wife loved it too.

  • Only you Michael could do a song from Otis Redding, what a classic "Sitting on the Dock of The Bay"!!!

  • Only Michael Bolton could do an Otis Redding song like this.

  • Sitting on the cock of a gay

    Wasting time

Sitting on the cock of a gay

  • That's Neal Schon!!!One fantastic guitarist!

  • the album he had this on was ace. never relised 2 guys from journey {forgot their names right now } played on this track.

  • i think that the songs actually better when he sings it rather than when otis redding sings it!!!!!! do you agree yes or no !!!!

  • @punkprincess571999 dont think its better than otis version myself, even though i still like this, you should look up craig davids acoustic live version, its pretty good aswell

  • i saw neal schon!

  • To people saying he ruined the song, no he didn't, because Otis Redding's version still exists, if you prefer that one then go listen to it. Stop compaining just because Bolton did his own version and it happens to be different.

  • Stick to the ballads Mr. Bolton.

This song is supposed to be soulful not like a ballad.

  • Michael Bolton is one talented and smooth Vegetarian!

  • This is really a fantastic video. Very well done.

  • ruined a true classic

  • @mbradshaw28150 You can't ruin otis redding

You just make him better in comparison

  • And here's the completely gay version by ... Michael Bolton FUCK!

  • @sergdefr The "gay version" is dedicated to you. You would never sing like him, nor in a thousand years, so don't criticizes it.

  • wonderful song!! Great!!!

  • what a talent,<<<??!!!! oops i mean what a true parasite of all songs . die bolton[i mean blowtons] die now please die now!!!

  • @boobybland,, you are so right . i can only blame myself for adding another view. Boltons deal w the devil is now complete.

  • fuck, great solo yeah!!!!

  • @sebafloyd1 Neil Schone!

  • he's wrecked an all-time classic

  • ottis redding version is better

  • What a life sitting waiting for something to change in one's life! But that is the reality of life and Michael Bolton waited 18yrs to be recognised as a singer. What a bum-numbing experience! But a character building one as well.

  • thanks for posting it. didn't video exist

  • ooooh....whatta voice!

  • pearl jam sucked when singing this song. Mike sounds a little better, but not much...

  • lol, sounds like he's saying something other than sittin and ships xD

  • I think that Otis Redding version is better.

  • Michael Bolton is a great performer & He did Otis some justice here & sang it straight from the heart...

  • i shook steve croppers hand in the early 90s, and duck dunn, eddie floyd, i think this version is great, i think for otis this was a one off, it wasnt what he did at that time, yes its soulful, but a big change in direction, never the less, a great song and a great interperputation by both singers

  • Awesome version.. Love it!

Thank you @kezzer2 for sharing and yes! let's do it! :-)

Thank you francis1971 for an awesome post!

  • aweful

  • I can understand why some people would have a problem with this interpretation, considering Otis Redding just poured so much soul and emotion into his music and he did it so effortlessly.

Still, to say that Bolton ruined this cover is just silly. I understand people can have different opinions, but Bolton's voice in my opinion is pretty outstanding in its own right.

  • AWESOME remake. Way to go Michael. Cant beat Otis but this is a very very good version in its own rights.

  • i prefer this version, cool solo, and who the hell said this guy aint soulful, and i dont even like him but ,he's all feeling

  • Hit #11 pop, #19 AC, #58 soul in Billboard. God bless!

  • "Otis Redding is long gone, but maybe we can still get Aretha Franklin to kick his ass."

  • @arouska u don't know music - and ur parents don't know how to make kids

  • Notice Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain of Journey? Randy Jackson played on this album as well.

  • i didnt get the same image of the lone, well-traveled, US sailor traveling the seas without a place to call home..........

  • Karl Pilkington has a head like a fucking orange.

  • Check out this same song sang by Ono Lisa..... Therapy for your ears.

  • I Love Micael Bolton's music. I think he has a fantastic voice. You people should be thankful for a fantastic singer who put's all his heart and soul into every piece of music he does!!!! Some people just need to get a life and grow up!!!!!

  • I Love Micael Bolton's music. I think he has a fantastic voice. You people should be thankful for a fantastic singer who put's all his heart and soul into every piece of music he does!!!!

  • This makes me think of "Office Space".

  • Some people just can't help but be lame. I never really understand studio covers unless they drastically change a song. (Hendrix's Watchtower, GNR's Knockin on Heaven's Door). All Bolton did was white it up.

  • He is an amazing singer I love this song.. and I love his voice sooo talented! Great job he does on this song

  • after listening to this one for so long i recently heard otis redding's version and i gotta say i much prefer bolton's cover. to me it seems like bolton puts a lot more emotion and pain in his voice and i like it.

  • Bolton you fucking piece of shit, ruined another song.

  • Please forgive me, but what year is this amazing singer?? Best album by him? Somebody please inform me, he looks super 80's!!!

  • Just for everyone's information Otis Redding's widow loved Michael Bolton's remake of this song.

  • This sucks his voice is wierd Otis Redding = Awesome and Peal Jam's cover is incredible especially from a rock perspective mr. "Masterpiece"

  • Shut up faggit and suck that dick.

  • I think this is one of the bes! He puts all the feeling. and the sound is superb

  • god i love this song i love his voice. it gives me goosebumps

  • Wrong tone for the lyrics, i thought he is about to give a shxt... LOL...

    Odd presentation of the song~

  • Don't forget, he did this with Neil Schon and jon Cain of Journey. After they did this the rumours flew around that Michael was going to be the new singer for Journey. Could have been interesting

  • Oh man...I have a new found respect for Michael Bolton

  • eres el ser maravilloso que dios nos a regalado ese angel que puede encantarnos no solo con su melodia con su voz su personalidad esa carisma esa entrega te amo michael boltoni

  • michael bolton is an awesome singer

  • He's colicky. Somebody burp him.

  • y is he screaming in the end???

  • He did a great job so did Otis.

  • It seems no one here can get a simple reference to Office Space correct. The phrase is "no-talent ass-clown." And frankly, in my opinion, this version is plenty good. It was good enough for Otis' wife, who has called it the best version since her husband's.

  • Ah, no way! I think both versions are fantanstic, however different the two versions are. From a rock perspective, this is a masterpiece. From a soul perspective, as you said, Otis had it perfectly. But of course not everyone likes soul, so to have different interpretations of a song is always a great idea. AND, to have two versions that are impeccable in their own right, just goes to show how versatile and brilliantly made this song is. :D

  • Love this version, Love Michael Bolton, he has a lot of soul in his voice.

  • @juiceymz Interesting definition of 'soul'. To me it appears to be a frontal psychological structure designed to project an image of soul, and is not rooted in the presence of a real soul. Or I could spare you the psycho-spiritual terms and just say that it's a load of phoney old shit :)

  • I agree!! Awesome Version!! GREAT!! ~~cb

  • @juiceymz

soul huh? this is the opposite of soul.

  • Wow this should have never happened.

  • I Totally Agree. He Should Have Never Tampered With This Classic....

  • WRONG THERE! May you have a Wonderful Day :)!!! ~~~~cb

  • Actually, that's ass-clown if you are trying an office space reference

  • Why, thank you for the correction. I am now complete.

  • Lol Michael Bolton ruined a wonderful soulful song with this cock rock garbage. No wonder "Michael Bolton" from Office Space calls him a talent asshole. =)

  • Michael Bolton .. you are the best !!! <3

  • no soul! hes going for it at least ! you can hear the effort in his voice not original but its still really good

  • Otis and Michael both did fine versions of this. Don't be hatin' on each other, folks! Michael's version hit #11 in Billboard. God bless!

  • So True - Amen!! God Bless You All!! ~~cb

  • dont refer to the lord our god he is not real

  • I'm sorry that you feel that way. But he is REAL FOR ME!! Have a Wonderful Day!! ~~cb :)

  • this fucking white bleached music has no fucking soul

  • THANK YOU! Somebody has a mind for once.

  • He changed the song to much.

  • ok it's not otis but he did a good job u people r stupid what is ur problem? lets see you do it..if it bothers you, dont listen to it idoits

  • I CAN DO IT...IN MY SHOWER!

  • I agree. It's good, but can never top Otis

  • NegDevHosting im pretty sure he is talking about our president obam sitting in the oval office waisting time

  • I think the pitch is too high. Could never top Otis.

  • Neal Schon is awesome!

  • If ever someone was walking the streets looking for somebody to bludgen with a hammer the hair doo he's rockin' would be justification enough for going after Mike.

  • deserves a life of eternal agony for this...

  • see video hHfaSf5hFaY

  • Must you corrupt everything?

    You're a sadistic bastard Bolton

  • im not saying he's bad but the original is best :]

  • very nice cover

  • see video hHfaSf5hFaY

  • Say what you want, but Michael nailed it. This man has soul. Passion and Power=Soul. (period)

  • you have no idea what the song is about, do you?

  • AMEN TO THAT!!!!~~~~~~~~~cb :) :)

  • A great song by two outstanding singers! First is the incomparable Otis Redding. Then an awesome version by Michael Bolton! When you can cover a master song with a second master version, you are truly a master of song! Thanks for this one Francis1971

p.s. I wrote 2 songs you might want to add.

"This Love That I'm Giving You" by The Joytones, & "This Love Affair" by Gloria Gaynor

    Happy New Year, Francis1971

  • there aint nothin wrong with this cover... he puts his own soul and style into a conversion of a great song by otis redding and i dont think its bad at all... to all people who are saying negative things....just appreciate something different for what it is and dont hate on music if you dont understand he redid the song for a wider audience of fans and to respect otis for such a classic wonderful song... he tried his best and put his hard into it....

  • @peezybeezysheezydeez Its a positive cover...hes a great singer!!

  • @peezybeezysheezydeez a great song for sure but it was co written by steve cropper & otis added the melody but the lyrics & arrangement are by cropper

put steve cropper into y't. & listen to him & pearl jam do a stunning version of dock of.....

  • @peezybeezysheezydeez "puts his hard into it"?

    Yeah right into its ass.

  • This is good :)

  • You have to admit that Michael Bolton has talent... But Otis Redding (although he died at 26) was one of the greatest soul singers. Otis captured this song in a way Bolton never could, instead Bolton butchered it by trying to make it seem like he's this sensitive guy and singing about what he see's. RIP Otis Redding

  • Otis Redding's wife told Michaelshe like his version of her husband song

  • Otis Redding's wife spoke the truth. Micheal brings the song back to life!!! Great Song that will last forever!!!!~~~cb

  • me encanta que buenos recuerdos me trae esta cancion.. i think its the secound best version after Ottis´s !!

  • He should have invited Santana on this one, you all would have forgiven this "different" version of Otis Redding's world hit. Most of you are right: he stole the soul, put his "deep south voice into it".

  • uugh...what absolute butchery of the beautiful Otis original. Only the 80's would allow the talentless fucking hag Bolton is.

  • is that the guy from Journey on geeetar?

  • Yes, his name is Neal Schon...PEACE.

  • he has a voice of a black man.... don't take this as discrimination or whatever.... it's just what i hear

  • lmao i thought this was a black guy singin when i was little...

  • @Twentepimp ...That's called "Blue eyed Soul". Hall and Oates, tina Marie, Micheal Mcdonald and a lot more great artist fit into that group. Thats music for ya...crosses over the color lines very smoothly ;-)

  • I freakin love his voice!!!!!!!!!

  • Otis Redding rules!!! sorry Michael! Thats too much...

  • Better than the original by miles............ PERFECT.

  • This man should have been shot for raping my memory of Otis Reddings beautiful song...

  • watching sh-sh-ships roll in. xDDDD

  • We progress with the times. Tastes change. Otis had the best of his time. I like them both. I covered this song and tried to find a place between.... might've gone a little closer to Bolton because of my age and taste.

  • what a load of rubbish some people write!! this man has a wonderful voice, full of emotion and very moving, music is just a matter of taste and if someone likes this then its good enough!!

  • all you people can say what you want ...but otis reddings wife said it was the best cover she ever heard

  • And I agree with you Completely!!!! Awesome version!!! ~~~cb

  • lmfaooo his hair is ridiculous!!! but he has an amazing voice!

  • this motherfucker sucks

  • thi tune is sexy

  • Cool stuff with Jonathon Cain and Neal Schon from Journey in there too!

  • this is good but its not in the same league as jjcarne1. he's shit hot

  • He tells how proud he is that Zelma Redding personally thanked him for recording "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay." (In a framed letter that hangs on the wall of Bolton's office, Zelma Redding refers to the record as "...my all-time favorite version of my husband's classic.")

  • this is shit. fake, poppy music with pretend emotion

  • well said. this is complete crap. tenacioustx, you don't have to be "a music expert" to know what's good in life. Just two nice, round and oily balls.

  • Was haben die Miezen auf den Dock zu suchen?

    ^^

  • good singer/cool song.

  • Clarence Seedorf Version is better ;)

  • Grow up, this is not a contest. I'm sure that Bolton has complete respect for Otis. This is one of my all time favorite songs and makes me feel like giving up the rat race for a dock.

  • NEAL SCHON

  • lol i didnt know neal schon was boltons part time guitarist

  • Best Version!!!!! Great Voice!!

    cb

  • I LOVE this version. I've loved Otis Redding since the 60's and I love Bolton's version as much as I do Redding's.

  • I celebrate this mas'n entire catalogue!

  • freitasregina-esta versão é muito gira!!

  • I'm a huge otis fan, and anyone that knows anything about michael Bolton knows otis was one of his inspirations. He is not coping- he is paying respect.

  • somebody please kick him in the junk. nobody should even attempt to cover otis redding

  • BEST THERE IS!!!!!!!

    CB

  • yo im a rapper and even i think thats a class song like to do a remixs with michael bolton hes got a powerful voice

  • Agreed. I am a rapper as well. He voice is so powerful he can do any genre of music

  • that ass-clown

  • sitting on the dock in the bay, in the Year Two THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTYSIX, TWO LASERMACHINEGUNS IN BOTH HANDS TRYING TO HOLD OFF THE ALIEN INVASION FROM THE JAHALTAR SOLARSYSTEM - RAMBOSTYLE.

thats how this version sounds like to me.

  • Great artist, unique voice!

  • The best thing about this is Neal Schons guitar solo.

  • He is such a fourth rate "artist". He runs rampant through classics, leaving a trail of terrible covers. He misses the point of every song he sings and has no sense of musicianship. I actually find this version insulting.

  • and your cover of Albert King, is it insulting ??? I don't see your point, the song is a classic, anyone can sing it his own way without beeing insulting...that's how a great song lives on.

  • oh no sorry I just listened to the second half of the song and watched the lame cliche video...yeah...it's insulting ! ^^

  • I am insulted by your insult The biggest lie was when your Momma told you she loved you. That should have insulted your attention.

  • bouhouhou you don't like me, i'm so sad, i'm going to sit and cry in the dark ;D

  • WHY

  • hey super cool pimp, yeah when micheal bolton does em but have you heard Marc Broussard hes one of the best rnb singers these days race dont mean shit there pal..so dont be a fuckin racist :)

  • nice version

  • Why make such a racist statement? Can't we just appreciate or not appreciate talent without regard to race?
