Sounds interesting Barry I will have to check it out, but I do agree I don't want it to become like the x-factor and just have a one hit wonder, although we all will have to wait in seeing how it all unfolds.

I think that history has shown us that when the internet tries to emulate traditional media it fails spectacularly. The reverse is also true but at the end of the day the arguement that it may bring more money in for the site is always one trotted out for new inovations like this and it may even be true. But in my view there are some things that if the alternative to doing it is death for the site then is preferable. Most of us on You Tube are not on here to be celebrities but because we like it

@grnlfe01 I agree I can't see it lasting for long on Youtube, it just might just fade away over time, but it's still early days yet so lets see how it goes.

That's what I don't like about it. That people will use it as a place to find new videos. Unless you go viral, you aren't in it. It would be better if it was more open. Not sure why they wouldn't go back to features picked by the editors. That was a very popular thing.

This is an interesting idea, and I'm not sure what to make of it until I see how it goes. I just hope, if it does create some new YouTube 'stars', that they're genuine, and not just chasing YouTube fame.

i don't think youtube needs to "keep up with the times"...i think it's in a position where it can pioneer better things which other media can keep up with instead. the phrase "internet's got talent" makes me sad.

@smilinglimpet Youtube might be trying to brunch out to get more or extra viewers on the site, although hearing the term "Internet's got talent" does concern me.

I totally agree with you Barry! Its weird becasue youtube have been promoting channels for the last year - pushing that forward. Now this is just like random videos from random people. Odd. I don't think it will affect us too much, maybe only give us some exposure in the unlikely chance we get featured.

I'm curious to know how you can get any of your videos into their Slam pool. I'd be surprised if any of my videos ever appear in YouTube slam, but it'd be nice if they did.
