  • @TacgnolRail

    ALEXANDER SCALE MODELS via Walthers

You find the How To at my site under Diamond Valley

  • Nice model work. Thumbs up! :)

  • Can you show it in action with an inexpensive car?

  • @fastdiesel2

    Sorry, this module is sold.

But at FREMO meetings we had a guy who managed to hit both derails! The car, engine derailed!

  • Ok, later on i came acros the real thing, and understand the purpose now.. shame on me..

It looks very much like the the real one, nice job! really nice! :))

  • And? why would you do something like this? :p

  • @deverrefietser

    following the prototype

  • how much would it cost to get one of the orange derailers?

  • @lotsoftrains123

you can get them at Details West

  • Wao ! SUPER NICE !!!

  • This is soo beautiful I think I'm going to cry....

  • Nice. Want to also see them work.

  • 65 GANDY DANCERS DID NOT LIKE THIS VIDEO

  • Man I wish I had just 1 of them.Cool stuff.

  • boring

  • Can you show it working? Like a car or loca derailing.

  • Cool! Do they work if a train does hit them, or are they just eyecandy?

  • @MrFlightfan

These derails work! We had a FREMO meeting where one guy run over both derails when switching. And in both cases there was an derailment. Some people learn the hard way. :-)

  • @westportterminal Awsome! Did anyone film it?

  • Great Job, Works And Looks Exactly Like The Real Ones.

  • @shryock121002

Look at my website, there's a HowTo. And I wrote an article in the Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine Jan/Feb 2010.

  • were these kits and if so where would i find them.

  • @brickman067

these are kits, you see at my website my howto , Go to Diamond Valley ==> derail

  • Thats really sharp!

  • Such an often overlooked detail on model RR's, thanks for posting!

  • Is there a video of these in action?

  • HUH??????????????????????????

  • does that work?

  • @flippy941

Yes, it works. At one of the last FREMO meetings one guy tested both derails at Diamond Valle. :-(

  • @westportterminal with a loco or car?

  • Comment removed

  • @westportterminal why would there be a derail swich on tracks dont we try so hard to stop derailments

  • @gtasandman In Seattle, we have a rail drawbridge that crosses the main water way that divides the city. The waterway sees heavy traffic everyday. The draw bridge also happens to cross over canal locks where boats can be backed up while waiting for their turns at the locks.

If a train ran away while the bridge happened to be up...well, it would be a mess.

Check out this video "Sounder Cab-car Ride: Ballard Bridge"

You can see the derailer at about 0:20.

  • @gtasandman - these are usually used on sidings to protect the main line from runaways that otherwise could get out of the siding. One wagon derailed is preferable to a mainline express train colliding with it.

  • @JBofBrisbane yea i found out already

  • @westportterminal look on the bright side, maybe itll come in handy

  • gud idear

  • In the UK these are called 'catch points'... it is funny how railway terminology differs between North America and je UK. I prefer your 'Two Trick Pony' to our 'Double Heading' but I prefer 'sleepers' to ;'ross-ties'....

  • It looks real!!

  • Nice work, but just one thing. The block derail connected to the switchstand should slide on and off the rail, not turn in an arc.

  • @classonehogger Some may slide, but not all, at least based on this YT

    YT # NaIQgNM_pMA

  • @profklyzlr ...and this YT, which describes it as a "hinged" (not sliding) derail

    YT # b9JB8aapbn8

  • Wolfgang,

Nice derail! How did you make it? Your site and layout are super.

    David

    Clearwater, FL

  • That is totally awesome. I love the attention to detail and functionality!

  • Früher an der Zonengrenze gab es das auch einmal, allerdings als richtige Entgleisungsweichen. Damit wollte man die Republikflucht von Lokführern verhindern.

  • thats great!

  • I remember a branchline near where I lived had two of the split rail type derails and one of the rail head type. The split rails were placed at the junction with the mainline and just downgrade of an industrial siding switch. The rail head derailer was on another siding and just hinged to flip on or off the head - no switch stand to operate it.

  • Beautiful!

  • I knew my model trains were realistic!

  • Great video !!!

  • to much excitement for one day!!

  • wonder why this one has the most views...

  • Very Good!

  • Lets see the de-railers in action! Cool derailers!

  • Have you ever used them?

  • Wow. I have never seen the last type of derail device.

  • I have never seen the first type..... Though we have derails here that is basically just a regular switch leading into a pile of dirt or gravel....

  • thats all we use down here on my line (NS Greenville District) :D cool video btw

  • whats the point of those?

  • derails prevent cars from rolling onto the main. they give some security.

  • in real life does it hurt the train cars?

  • Sometimes, but it is better to derail and possibly damage a rail car or two than for it to roll out onto the main line and cause Train to hit it at track speed. Or roll through a crossing and hit an auto. They are placed at industry tracks to prevent them from rolling out of the track in case of brake failure.

  • oh thanx

  • @westportterminal they are called Catch Points :D

  • cool, are you gonna make a test run? you need to know for sure if it works, ps if you do film it! I want to see it!

  • Nearly at every FREMO meeting there're a few guy who run the train over a closed derail. With derailing!

And special friends run their engines over both closed derails at Diamond Valley!!!

  • cool! 5*

  • You find the How To at my homepage. Look at "Diamond Valley".

  • that's sweet! not only is it cool, but it makes your layout look way more realistic. u should make a video on how to make those.

  • Sweet! I like it!

That's right were are belong to HO model?

  • This is cool but i do not understand why you would want your train to derail?

  • can ypu please make a instructional video on how to make the second one becuase i have tried and failed

  • Have you looked at my homepage under Diamond Valley, derails? Write me an PM, please.

  • omg that is some of the coolest stuff ive seen in a long time!

  • The first with the open switch would technically be called a catch point wouldn't it?

  • why dont you run a test with a low quality car

i need to make some for my layout

    (i'm rrfan)

  • You are too good at this! Nice job. There is so much realism incorporated into your railroad.

  • Nice detail! Looks Great!

  • Outstanding work Wolfgang!

  • Thats some great layout details!

  • GOSH DANG IT! TOO AWESOME!

  • very good work

  • I'd like to know more on how you made these unit. It could come in handy on our club layout.

  • You can see my How To at my homepage under Diamond Valley. Look under turnout and derail.

  • wow not what i thought the video would be.. but hey cool video how much do the cost???

  • The split rail derail is from left over parts (ties, rails) and the Details West SS-914 switch stand. The cast frog derail is from ALEXANDER SCALE MODELS.

    And some time. :-)

  • U do Amazing things, I wont the red derailer

  • that is amazing! i sould have some animated objects on my layout, dont think a derail would help though, the trains do that by them selfs.......

  • Cool!

  • wow you should make a video of cars derailing

  • better derail a car than crashing into a train at the main line. safety first!
