PS and I'll shut up now: Vinnie Paul, Igor Cavalera, Clive Burr, AND....Denise Dufort & Julie Turner - my idols as a young metal girl drummer w/ a struggling all-girl thrash band in the 80's. Thanks y'all for puttin up w Mother Mayhem here! ;)
@ Hayabus: Can you do better? I'm a drummer and I can't. I'd say he's ONE OF the best, undoubtedly.
@Metallica4769: Fuck yeah! I got a personal drum lesson from Dave Lombardo - he attempted to teach me the fill in War Ensemble btw time sigs. I couldn't do it even when I was at my best a million years ago, but he tried. I gotta throw in Nicko McBrain, Hellhammer, Nick Barker, Paul Bostaph, Glen Evans, Gar Samuelson (RIP), Andy Galeon, Fenriz and...Pickles ;)
ohhhh this takes me back... Metallica &Diamondhead...care-free summers before bills, jobs, kids (I love em, but oh the sacrifices -I'd gladly do it again tho), heartbreak, pressure, financial &health probs &before life kicked me in the ass. And when I was a perky C cup and not a saggity DD :/ This is part of the soundtrack to my youth and wish I could go back then knowing what I know now. But time to pass the torch onto my teenage Metalhead son. Ah memories...bittersweet indeed
@catlady669 It's true, anybody who knows the first thing about drumming knows that Lars is shite. Just because he's in a band you like doesn't mean he's any good. He's stiffer than a conservative prick on the parade ground surrounded by naked (insert sexual fantasy of own choice), he's got no fucking groove whatsoever, his fills are basic, his kick work is laboured and he hold the band back rather than driving 'em forward like a train wreck. He is, I repeat, utter shite. Luv you too.
@hayabus111a He's no Pete Sandoval, or Neil Peart. But to say he's "good" doesn't do him any justice at all. He's a great drummer in fact. Lars, on the other hand, is merely a good drummer...AT BEST! More like average...
I didn't 'get' Metallica at first, or thrash metal and the fast beats, thought it was more of a joke...but it all grew on me and I've loved it all for over 20 years now.
I still love the production sound of this EP. The sound is so in your face and personal. I used to play with the balance on my old cassette player just to isolate the guitars. Everything Raw and gritty! If only everything they recorded after this had this live feel to it..
Was a great band up until or and Justice For All was their last great album in my opinion, a 6 year old metal bass player. Lars sucks for being a puss about Napster, it was a breakthrough arena for bands to get their music out there. forgive us for not have a rich daddy that paid for studio time for you. I still like you and your band mates. R.I.P Cliffy. Get back to your roots fuck commercialism.
@kissalive76 I agree with you on some point. But commericalism is good sometimes. No band wants to be playing in tiny clubs for the rest of their lives, and they want to get recognized.
@teenmetalfreak3 I agree with you, nobody wants to see a stale band playing the same old songs. I just wasn't a big fan of St Anger and the black album. I'm old school metal and it just sounded to studio ish to me. Not a hater at all will always love them and I hear the next album is going back to their roots.
@kissalive76 Everyone knows that they played the clubs just as much, if not more than most of the bands today. They worked their asses off to get to where they are now. And by the time Load and Reload came out, they WERE swimming in loads of money that they earned. Whether you want to believe it or not, once you make money it's sometimes hard to go back to the roots of emotions they were feeling when they were young that made so many great songs. But yeah, I hope this new one is good :)
@teenmetalfreak3 Thats a good ppoint. When Load came out I was a little pissed, but then I thought, well I still got all thier old albums to listen too, and I still do and will forever!
stop saying....Metallica when it was etc etc... if you were true fans you would appreciate them every day, every second and I don't say this to excuse anything related to their nowadays performance because with every new song I feel more Metal running through my veins than ever. SO SHUT UP AND ENJOY. METALLICA RULLEZ \m/
In June 1988, this was the first Metallica recording i ever heard. [the next day i heard my first Metallica original song "Battery"] i became a diehard Metallica fan just from the drum beat intro to Helpless. In those days, it only took 2 seconds to get into Metallica.
@boozygrogy : similar here...it was early1989 for me, bought the "justice" cassette tape on total blind luck, never having heard metallica before, and then i put it in my walkman for the ride home, turned it all the way up and BLACKENED...totally destroyed me...fan for life...
this band been doin it for years, and i don t appreciate the people who hopped on their wagon after the tune one.if they were real metallica fans, they would have noticed their talent long ago.by far the most metal by one band.
Who needs to "download this track" when you can just record it off the soundcard using Audacity which is free... I even add Wow effect sometimes with the 'compress' feature it's awesome.
@ThemTwoOtaku Some kind of Monster is the best case, illegally downloading Death Magnetic, sounds reasonable until you remember Napster and Lars kicking up a fuss at the time . (Cliff Burton thought he was an arse and wanted him sacked but Ulrich owns the Metallica name. Jason Newstead don't like him too. Jim Breuer his ex-friend doesn't like him. Jesse Hughes from Eagles of Death Metal doesn't like him. All these people have been in his company and have perfectly valid reasons to dislike him)
@ThemTwoOtaku No, its taking legal action against Napster and bitching about the whole thing, then a few years later downloading illegally. It may be his music but it doesn't stop him being a total hypocrite. Think about it before trying to be smart.
Oh and did you know the WHOLE band of Metallica where backing him up they all felt the same he just was unfortunately was the spokesman of the band. So if you say it about what he did you're saying about all of Metallica
@ThemTwoOtaku That comment is just retarded. I can dislike someone without meaning I dislike their workmates and what they make. Cliff is the greatest bassist ever, Jason not a favourite, Rob Trujillo is doing a great job, especially live. Hetfield is brilliant frontman. Hammett is a fantastic lead guitarist, one of the very, very best. I realise now that I am talking to a Load/Reload Metallica fan, you really do not have a clue, u probably think Death Magnetic sounds old and weird
@ThemTwoOtaku he created the fuckin music u fucking dick head it gives him the right to do what ever he wants to do with his music OMG stupid fucking people these days holy shit
@togowack he may not be the most skilled drummer , but hell, that means fucking nothing . i love his drumming , even if he would still only have one cymbal that would keep falling over . its a matter of taste . and a matter of not giving a shit about anyones opinion but yourself . i respect that in him/them .
@TheLowermen I love Metallica and Lars. I have been a fan since 1985 and still am! I also love a good drummer, the likes of Buddy Rich, Mike Mangini, Danny Carey, John Bonham, Pete Sandoval, etc! Must suck pretty bad for Lars that "some" think he's a crappy drummer, umm MTV Icon, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 30 years of Capt'n Crunch that some of us love!
@xrobwx he has lost somewhat of his skill or at least will to play "complex "stuff . like in some songs he cuts out the entire bass drum and just does quarter hits .
@togowack omg another little bitch that hates on lars lars is a fuckin beast listin to his drumming from ride the lightning to and justice for all after that he lost his talent but still and also his drumming in st anger was fuckin awsome so stop hating u shoulde be suckin his dick because if it wasnt for him there woulde be no metallica
@wiltdastilt72 You got it a bit wrong... You can not work and become talented - you are born talented or you aren't. But you can't be good if you don't work even if you'r talented... Talent without work means nothing.
@wiltdastilt72 the point is that you can not get talent if don't have one. it is God given. a talent gives you potential to become great if you work on it... but if you only have talent and you dont work, you wont be great.
@wleikko So i'm born with a small frame so I can't build myself up to compete in bodybuilding? To some runners a warm up is a workout! Talent comes from practicing. Practice makes perfect.....THE PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
@whosseThis that I can't tell, frame size doesn't determine muscle potential to grow.
No, talent doesn't come from practicing, as I said, it is god given. Skill comes from practicing, talent increase your results and chance for success.
Let me put it this way - you have a talented and untalented person who do the same amount of practicing. The talented person will always be better then untalented person, even if they work equally. Sometimes the talented person can be better with less work..
@MetalHell696 Lars was a tennis player. It made him think he could hit the drums. Metallica worked because he has good people skills and attitude, but no actual musical talent...
@tmxd81 Are you talking about my And Justice For All comment? I know Jason was in the band at the time, but if you read/listen to some interviews with him and other people it is fairly widely known that his bass sound was kept way way down in the mix. That's all I was saying.
"I can see the stars, but i can't see what's goin on, every night alone i sing just for fun, only time will tell if i make myself some day, the stage is mine, music is my destiny" Me favourite line. It's Electric is my favourite Diamong Head song(covered by Metallica)
lol @ the idiots calling them sellouts. OOOooh they cut they hair and the music slowed down a bit. Get over it. Its called getting older. This EP came out when they were in their early 20s. They all pushin 50 now. Influences change, styles change, musical tastes change. If any of you were musicians, you would know what im talking about.
I havent been able to get this song outta my head for 3 days....I bought a bootleg disc 15yrs ago with all the cuts from Garage Days for $30....before I knew what Garage Days was, I lost the Cd somewhere but I memorized all the songs before that......This mid-section KILLS IT....Diamond Head should pay tribute for such a wonderful cover! This is the Metallica that we missed that HAVE came back for us!
wht dyou meen after the black album was shit...they made some sick ROCK tunes...ok not metal.. but they proved they were much more than a metal band.wich is way more than most bands do
@theroc3kzz This album had a limited prodution, plus its only cover songs so its hardly even a album, moreso a fuckabout that was recorded and released. Its still awesome as fuck though >:) \m/
I remember my neighbor across the street bringing over Justice and Garage Days. If it weren't for Neal Brautigan, I wouldn't play like Lars!! This song was in my head, so I had to hear it!
this was like the beginning of AJFA , drums sound better and vocals are a bit more aggressive then the others. then Breadfan and all that came along thats when they were already done with AJFA or in the middle of it
In my opinion, I think this EP and "...And Justice For All." were the last good albums by Metallica, I think when they got Bob Rock, they went uphill, but thats what they think, I speak for the fans and I think for the fans opinion, they went downhill shit... And I hate when people compare Death Magnetic to their older sound/albums, I understand if you compare to their Load/Reload/St.Anger, then that album kicks ass, but compare it to the older stuff, its as bad as St.Anger.
this ep 5.98 was the last perfect from metallica. after that they startet with tv-and-radio cleaned music making money. i feel sorry for them. they where on a good way to get the top of the metal. cliff would turn around in his grave!!!
As to the guy that saud he misses Jason and Cliff...Hell, i miss James, at least how he used to be. This is balls, and whenever i see them live now, i cringe. A shame, cause this WAS the band. Garage is damn good, but i think Justice showcases what i feel would be the prefect Metallica. No, it's not Master, 4 horsemen, or creeping death. But that sound they had (sans Bass. BOOO) was the shit.
i live in juarez mexico and when i was a 10 years old ozzy was my hero and when i was 14 or 15 years old metallica was my hero and antrhax kreator etc in 1986 ozzy and metallica plays together in el paso county coliseum in el paso tx damn i cross the fuckin river rio bravo to see the concert this day i feelin in xtasis i cant believe it damn!my english is so very very bad but i hope you understand me

wiltdastilt72 9 months ago
@wiltdastilt72 the point is that you can not get talent if don't have one. it is God given. a talent gives you potential to become great if you work on it... but if you only have talent and you dont work, you wont be great.
wleikko 9 months ago
@wleikko yes lol i get it
wiltdastilt72 9 months ago
@wiltdastilt72 Talent? :P lol
wleikko 9 months ago
@wleikko So i'm born with a small frame so I can't build myself up to compete in bodybuilding? To some runners a warm up is a workout! Talent comes from practicing. Practice makes perfect.....THE PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!
whosseThis 9 months ago
@whosseThis that I can't tell, frame size doesn't determine muscle potential to grow.
No, talent doesn't come from practicing, as I said, it is god given. Skill comes from practicing, talent increase your results and chance for success.
Let me put it this way - you have a talented and untalented person who do the same amount of practicing. The talented person will always be better then untalented person, even if they work equally. Sometimes the talented person can be better with less work..
wleikko 9 months ago
@whosseThis God doesn't exist, it's just matter of practice if you became good or not...

MetalHell696 5 months ago
@MetalHell696 Lars was a tennis player. It made him think he could hit the drums. Metallica worked because he has good people skills and attitude, but no actual musical talent...

All these covers was better than...And Justice, in my house once upon a time.
1lemurian 1 year ago
@1lemurian I LOVE ...And Justice... My only grudge is the fact they left out Jasons bass playing.
GeneLattanzi 1 year ago
@GeneLattanzi
What are you talking about? Jason played on that and it was long after its release when he left the band.
tmxd81 11 months ago
@tmxd81 Are you talking about my And Justice For All comment? I know Jason was in the band at the time, but if you read/listen to some interviews with him and other people it is fairly widely known that his bass sound was kept way way down in the mix. That's all I was saying.
GeneLattanzi 11 months ago
@GeneLattanzi this is true. they did it because they didnt think Jason was as good as Clif Burton. I tend to agree though.

lol @ the idiots calling them sellouts.

This is the Metallica that we missed that HAVE came back for us!

this was like the beginning of AJFA , drums sound better and vocals are a bit more aggressive then the others. then Breadfan and all that came along thats when they were already done with AJFA or in the middle of it
