Probably has to do with all the exposure he got on TV sports shows time after time with all those buzzer beaters. Or probably his dynamic dunking ability and air time. I read on NBA.COM that Jordan racked up an 8 APG season in 89, is that true? End of the day Larry Bird was a great player but compared to Jordan he was just damn too boring to watch(IN COMPARISON).
This video is so funny, people need to understand that Bird hurt his back, if he was healthy I know he would have won more than 3 championships, he also couldn't jump like Magic or Jordan, imagine if Magic or Jordan had to play with Birds body I don't think they would have done so well. What I'm saying is Bird made poor choices that ultimately lead to his inevitable early retirement whereas Jordan didn't. Bad things happen sometimes in life and Larry was on the unfortunate side. He would not have won any more championships is where you are truly mistaken. Even with that bad back, he was putting up godly numbers AND LOSING year after year for six years.

That team was not able to beat the showtime Lakers the next year in '87 with nearly the same roster.

@Dalen77 Shaq is a bad example because he was born an absolute freak. Naturally, he was big and strong. The only thing that was impressive about Shaq was his footwork and quickness for his size. Other than that he is just gifted. He had the easiest job in the NBA all he had to do was receive the ball in the sweet spot and bang out for the easy dunk. The difference between Shaq, MJ, and Bird is that MJ and Bird actually put their heart into the game. Shaq could have easily been the GOAT but nope.

Bottom line: Jordan was bound to decimate Bird in the 90's if they were to meet in the finals. But realistically, even if Bird didn't have health issues, he's still going to have to score on Pippen and you know MJ would be on his ass if he got by Scotty. It was just the Bulls time my friend. There's nothing an aging Larry could do against MJ and Pippen in their prime.

Nice upload, but end of the day most people would rather watch Jordan play. His name is mentioned more times than Birds. What I'm saying is Bird made poor choices that ultimately lead to his inevitable early retirement whereas Jordan didn't. Bad things happen sometimes in life and Larry was on the unfortunate side. He would not have won any more championships is where you are truly mistaken. Even with that bad back, he was putting up godly numbers AND LOSING year after year for six years.

@Dalen77 Shaq is a bad example because he was born an absolute freak. Naturally, he was big and strong. The only thing that was impressive about Shaq was his footwork and quickness for his size. Other than that he is just gifted. He had the easiest job in the NBA all he had to do was receive the ball in the sweet spot and bang out for the easy dunk. The difference between Shaq, MJ, and Bird is that MJ and Bird actually put their heart into the game. Shaq could have easily been the GOAT but nope.

Bottom line: Jordan was bound to decimate Bird in the 90's if they were to meet in the finals. But realistically, even if Bird didn't have health issues, he's still going to have to score on Pippen and you know MJ would be on his ass if he got by Scotty. It was just the Bulls time my friend. There's nothing an aging Larry could do against MJ and Pippen in their prime.

Bird entered the league at age 23, had 1 year of AAU & 3 years of NCAA experience, & after his rookie season there were 7 other players on Boston who were averaging double figures. Now compare that to Jordan being 21, 3 years of NCAA (No AAU), & after his rookie season there were 3 other Bulls players who were averaging in double figures. Not even fair to compare that part!

Yeah so just being on a team with a future HOF means you should be a champion according to this logic? They were healthy all of 1 year together (96-97) Jordan and Pippen played 3 years together (87-90) and didn`t win a title. Jordan and future HOFer Gervin couldn`t even post a +.500 record. Are you going to knock MJ here using this logic?

MJisKing, this ``MJ won without a big man`` argument is something his supporters use to make him look in a even greater light than he is! Rick Barry won without a great big, so did Isiah twice.
Pippen was hurt in `98? He averaged 17ppg 7 rebs and 5 asts in the playoffs, please try not to make it seem like MJ somehow carried him and the Bulls. This wasn`t Barry in `75 or Hakeem in `94.

@FuShengAlex 6 rings without a bigman in the bigman era.. Isiah had a legit big man in BILL Laimbeer. Who ever said anything about great bigs? Jordan def did not have any even legit bigs he won with like Isiah who had a 4 time all star in BILL...So the only player in history to win without even a legit big is Jordan on a consistent basis... We do not have to make Jordan look great the stats and the accomplishments do that on its own.

@FuShengAlex LOL Hakeem did not have the name of pippen but had the collective contributions in the 94 playoffs to win the titles by having all 4 other players in double figurers..And in 95 Clyde 20 ppg 7 reb 5 ass was key in the Rockets winning success. And again Hakeem had the help of all 4 players in double figuers in huge contributions to help the great hakeem win as Jordan was away...We all know Jordan has to push the weight for his whole team in his playoff battles.

LOL.....The guy made the all-star team in his THIRD year in the NBA and now you`re telling me he was great only in the year when the Bulls won their first title. What about Jordan`s sideline bustups with coaches for not getting guys involved enough! There is ZERO proof of Pippen becoming great BECAUSE of playing with Jordan. Of course playing with MJ SHOULD help your development, but it isn`t like the guy was a lost cause without MJ.

@FuShengAlex MJ carried the BULLS in 98 while scottie was injured had the year. Plus scottie was struggling in the last three peat shooting terrible percentages and only giving on the defensive end. Jordan in 97 age 34 carried more weight on his shoulders ave more pts reb and ass in than his sidekick in 97...Scottie offensively in the last three peat was terrible.

@FuShengAlex Pippen was hurt in the final two games of that series his back got the best of him, he tallied a whole 6 pts in Game 5 and 8 pts in Game 6...Kukoc came up huge in Game 5, but in Game 6 Pippen could barely move and couldn't get his shot off, Kukoc played ok with 15. Jordan was off early but unlike Kobe he scored 16 4th quarter points, and scored the Bulls last 8, with the steal and game winner...next
