  • today i was driving one, tomorrow ill do agin^^

  • My fav.car from porsche my dream car !

  • @mongolarix The turbo is meant to be the dream, but a carrera is good, very good :)

  • I love that car, and I think your driving is pretty good! By the way is it a problem not having a limited slip diff? Or because of the position of the engine, the grip is perfect?

  • It's a shame my car didn't have that optioned when it was new, along with the short shift kit (if it was available in those days). I have fitted the genuine factory short shift kit in place of a poor quality aftermarket part which a previous owner had fitted.

The only options this car has is the 'sport equipment' package with 16" Fuchs alloys.

  • All C16 cars (UK spec. cars) came with electric windows, mirrors, sunroof & heated mirrors.

I like the heated mirror but I would've prefered wind up windows and a plain roof!

I removed the central locking as it was not factory fitted...

  • You could be right about the engine position helping the car, I'd never had a car that you could put power down when half way through a corner like this before (never had a car with a mid engine or rear transaxle before). Remember, Porsche had 20 years to tune the suspension by the time they done the 3.2 carrera...

  • I've driven my fathers V12 Jaguar and a 750iL BMW with LSD's and it actually made me think of the negatives of LSD's rather than the positives.

  • I also have a '81 911 turbo with a later 5 speed G50 gearbox with what I'm guessing is a stock Porsche LSD. I would say it is fantastic (apart from the noise which the BMW also suffered with).

Of course it's difficult for me to say how much the LSD's are contributing to the handling compared to the springs/dampers/alignment etc etc.

Seems to me 911's do benefit from LSD's.

  • Thank you very much for your answers!

You've said that you experienced the drawbacks of an LSD in the Bimmer and the Jag, how did it feel? What was the problem, you could tell me please?

I have to admit I love the Carrera 3.2, somehow way much than the other 911s. If I could afford one, I'd go for a late one with the G50 gearbox. I heard those gearboxes are much better than the ones in the older Carreras from the early '80s. Is it true, what's your opinion.

    Thanks in advance!

  • I found that both cars lurched side to side if you put down too much power!

In fact, I think it's one of the reasons my dad sold the 750iL as it scared him when it did this once. I was in the car at the time.

Also, once in the 750iL I went to pull away with a car beside me in the rain and due to the camber of the road the back end of the car slipped towards the car beside me and I hardly moved forward at all...

So, scary on all three occasions...

  • The G50 cars are a good choice. The one fitted in my 930 is excellent. A much easier gear change along with a much stronger gearbox, even the clutch is of a larger diameter.

The only problem with later 911's is that they got heavier and heavier (the G50 is heavier than the 915). So, engines got more powerful and complicated to overcome the weight and the suspension also had to become more sophisticated. Also like most cars, the cars got safer to drive and safer if you crashed though.

  • @nathan911turbo

My dad used to have a 750iL also, now I'm looking at buying an '84 Carrera. How do you like it?

  • @kittykiller897 I love it :) Did you get a carrera yet?
