He always gets credited for going to 10/14/83..... but he never says it specifically. It could have been 10/15/83, which in my opinion is no where near as good as the first night
Yep Trey...i remember shedding my Iron Maiden wifebeater and proclaiming `Where are the Flowers' after hearing the Dead and, well..........other things.......
@MrGrevy That's true. Weir is so far behind Anastastio as far as talent. It was actually comical to watch Bobby try to keep up with Trey at that show at Shoreline in 2000, only to give up and blame the mic.
@acidinurmind I was thinking 10/15/83, but yeah 10/14 probably for the reasons you stated. I love 10/15/83, its such a great show and the St. Stephen was nice to hear, the place went insane when the first notes were played. I think people were in shock when they first heard Stephen being played, everybody was still confused from Space and then out of the madness came Stephen.
The whole place lifted off the ground I think :) I miss the grateful dead.
Steve Howe's technique is impeccable, but devoid of soul and frankly, boring... And yes it's still subjective, depending on the genre one's into. Jerry's "chicken scratches" are much more enjoyable and listenable than Howe's studied pretentious fingering exercises. It's only rock n' roll after all.
@krispysmurf amen brotha.. steve howe is like a perfect guitar player for lack of a better word but dude...(garynull)...theres just no comparing him to jerry or trey.. to say the word chicken scratches about jerry's playing is "straight ignant dawg"
I was there at that show and i gotta tell ya those boy's were on fire both nights 10/14 and 10/15 1983.A half hour scarlet>fire and then a half hour estimated>eyes into the drums trust me go listen it will make you howl like a hippie.
If your bickering about who's better perhaps you dont get music the way the guys playing it get it. MaYbe dont take too much credit for what SOME THING OR SOMEONE else created. (god?) LET MUSIC BE MUSIC!!! FEEL FREE TO GROW!!!
REPRESENT!!!! I'm sitting i a Taft dorm room right now. We had a raffle this week for 5 tickets for his upcoming concert in Wallingford. Unfortunately I didn't win but I will hopefully end up going with the person who did!!!
its funny how alot of musicians who are influenced by people dont actually sound like them at all.. not saying this specificly about Trey or anyone, just saying...but it does apply to Trey i guess. Point is...Phish has good songs and alot of shit songs
@taylor8492 good thing your not in charge of programming anywhere because you obviously have no fucking clue when it comes to music. You sound like a brainless fuck who only skill is to barf up ideas that you heard from other people who you think are authorities on the subject of good music. Go eat a bag of dicks you mediocre fuck.
trey is awesome and everything, but he's lying to bobby. trey said in an article a few years ago that the dead was only a mild inspiration and that jimmy was his main inspiration and hero...i already a bunch of people are going to challenge me on this...so let's begin!
sorry man, I do my homework! you dont have a clue what you're talking about. the dead has been my life for over 20 years. anybody who knows anything about phish knows that trey can't stand being compared to jerry. just listen to the live shows, he credits charlie parker and frank zappa more than the dead.
sorry bro, yer an idiot. he talked about going to a show and being blown away. he said nothing about Jerry. he said the show was like getting hit with a shovel. Stick to dave matthews and listening to wave to the wind. NEWB!
that was probably in reference to his actual guitar technique and sound and what not.... obviously phish doesnt sounnnndd like the dead... but the style and the whole communal idea of the dead... as he speaks about here... is what clearly inspired phish s entire attitude towards touring and theyre relationship with their fans.... there are no jimmy-heads... just dead heads and phish heads.. well and biscuit heads but thats a different story haha... you do the math.

trey always lies. its just something that I have tried to get used to in his interviews. they are never total lies but just little bits of lies. ..but he does it all the time. its painful to listen to sometimes.
yeah, it's a bit much at times. trey's a good guitar player but please enough with the self-important b.s. - Phish is a fun band, but not a serious band in a spiritual sense. Those who claim they are need to expand their musical listening tastes, imho.
I was at this Hartford Conn. October 1983 show; they did St. Stephen (they did it there & at madison square garden like 3 days before). Like all Dead shows then it was fun. Tho Bob has it wrong; "I" bought the vibe....maannnnnnn!
"There was one Dead show I saw," Anastasio says as we stop at a light. "One show I'd rank as one of the best concerts I've ever seen." He squints into the distance, remembering. "It was at Hartford Civic Center, 1982 or '83," he continues."And it was just a concert, you know? It wasn't about the vibe; it wasn't about the scene. I wasn't hanging out with my friends and stuff. I was just standing there, alone. Just listening to the music." Wow. And you weren't on acid or anything. "Oh, no. I was."
The end of this video is hilarious.... I just watched it like 10 times in a row. When Bob says "you brought the vibe man" and Trey reacts I literally can't help but LOL every time I see it. HaHaHa!
That's funny. Bob Weir plays 25,000 concerts and the moderator is telling him how to reposition the microphone to get rid of feedback... as if he just doesn't recognize the difference between a poor mix and bad mic placement... good grief
I was at that show , Bob said quote on quote " It nice to be here at the Garden State " when Phil interupted Bob and said, " uh Bob we're in Connecticut"
I love the way the interviewer tries to give Weir advice on how to prevent a microphone from feeding back from a monitor. Maybe he had some guitar tips to share as well ...
All our Forums are cool! Last Friday we had Bob Saget, Mo Rocca, Nancy Giles and Peter Sagal. It was rediculously funny. Watch for some vids in the near future.
