Wakefield may not be a great pitcher (although he is one of the best knuckleballers of all time), Tim has been one of my favorite players to watch. Such a nice guy. I'd be so disheartened if the Sox didn't retire #49.
Timlin had a great career, but he was pretty much done. Still sucks to see him go.
I'm with you there. He has been hands down my favourite player over the years and is just a class act. Theo summed it up best when he stated Tim brings honor to the uniform.

Lets be honest. This guy has been mediocre at best over the past 2 years.
We need some one better in the 4th spot in the rotation if we are to go back to the series, especially with New York and now Tampa Bay being extremely competitive.
I hate to say it because he has been here to long but this knuckleball shit sucks. He usually gets shelled even at home.
According to general manager Theo Epstein, Mike Timlin is unlikely to re-sign with the Red Sox.
"We came to a mutual understanding that Boston probably wouldn't be the best fit for him," Epstein said. Timlin is 42 years old and posted the worst ERA of his career in 2008, but should get some one-year offers if he wants to keep pitching.
timlin's been struggling all year but i'll never forget this and he showed what kind of a great man he is. both are great. i remebmer this was incredible. go red sox!!! 2008!!
Oh, I love these guys. They're so sweet and so nice and, to me, embody what the Red Sox are about: winning and having a great time with the team, not in any order but at the same time.
Thanks for posting this. I remember seeing it after the game and it's one of the most touching moments of teamwork I've ever seen. It's unfortunate it didn't make it to the world series DVD compilation of 'best moments'
BelmontMike - you nailed it. These guys are true humans - true gentlemen. I love what they have done for hte organization and for the city. Just great, great people.

Tim Wakefield (shoulder) is scheduled to play catch on Saturday.
It'll be the first time he's picked up a ball in a week. He's eligible to come off the DL on the 21st, but he might not be back until September.

Yeah I thought that was one of the nicest things I ever heard someone say about someone. You could tell Tim was touched.

Tim Wakefield and Mike Timlin are the definition of class and the Red Sox are very
fortunate to have these "real men" on their team
