Kevin did not bring up a reference to World War II. Appeasement is not just a World War II action. Kevin was talking about Barack Obama's appeasment ideas, and Chris harped on something Kevin was not even talking about to create a manipulative distraction. It is amazing how many suckers fell for it. Chris Matthews is very dishonest and a terrible person.
search a dictionary, if Obama had "appeasment ideas", he would have a plan to for instance give Iran half of Afghanistan
Kevin where refering to a Bush comment about a British primenister who played a huge role in the build up to ww2
that was the issue being discussed
It`s quite interesting that conservatives call deomcrats appeasers, concidoring the huge amounts of Military technology and financial support USA gives to the motherland of most of the 9/11 hijackers, Saudi arabia
You are arguing with Kevin, not me. But since you brought it up, appeasement is not limited to giving away land. Giving into hostile demands is appeasement, and Kevin's point was that giving into any of Ahmadinejad's insane demands would be appeasement and that nothing else in terms of a change could result from talking to him.
Obama has just spoken of having diplomatic relations, if you concidor talking and letting other people "absorb" the sound energy of you expressing your views/potentional risks of a conflict (confronted face to face) then your very strange imo.
I am not Kevin James! But Kevin's point was that talking to a terrorist results in nothing at best and appeasement at worst. Kevin probably went a little far with his freak out, probably to get attention and increase his audience, but he has a point. I agree with you that talking alone does not equal appeasement.
thim: good point. I've always felt the Left's claim to moral superiority (compassion for the poor, victim rights, etc.) was a fig leaf covering some pretty nasty stuff. Almost all of the attempts to suppress free speech (political correctness, the Fairness Doctrine), a lot of outright bigotry (contempt for southerners, people of religious faith), and some McCarthy-like blacklisting of people with different views.
Someone once said that if fascism comes to America it will come from the Left.
It definitely seems like both sides suppress free speech. The left seems more directly concerned with censorship to "protect the children" etc. The right however seems to have more nefarious motives: "Be quiet angry masses"
That said, contempt for religious people or at least distaste is in the same interest as not electing a schizophrenic as a president. I want rational decisions if laws are going to restrain me, not decisions based on antiquated faith in the paranormal.
coliin: I'm not religious and have no tolerance for that segment of the Religious Right that wants to bring religion into the politcal realm. However, I think too many on the Left are openly contemptuous of all religion and all people of religious faith. There are a lot of good people out there that are better citizens for having some modest religious faith.
And what about political zealots? I'm much more afraid of ideological fanatics (marxists, etc.) than I am of a Huckabee or Romney.
"If by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,' then I'm proud to say I'm a 'Liberal.' // John F Kennedy
falsare: No accident the quote you cite is 45years old. The Liberals of today are nothing like that; they are completely reactionary and opposed to any new ideas.
They're ideologues, defending the programs of the 60s/70s (affirmative action, abortion on demand, big govt solutions to every issue) bitterly. Their answer to every failed program is "more money will fix it".
I spent 24 yrs in the federal govt and have seen the waste and incompetence up close. BO will jack taxes and expand govt
Maybe the republicans can appease the democrats so that the last remaining shred of hope for our nation can be saved, and a Democratic office can finally fix the load of crap the Bush administration dumped on the US.
I'm not offended that you called out that idiot Kevin James for the goofball that he is...but go easy on the rest of us republicans, not all of us are like that...it's all the neocons that are giving us the bad name...give us a minute, not all of us have woken up to them yet,,,revolution is in the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This Kevin James is another Bill O in the making. I can't believe that idiot still tried to argue his point with Chris after Chris proved him to be an ignorant, arrogant republican A-hole. The saddest thing is that, most republicans would have done the same. If the White working class or anyone votes for McCain, they deserve to be in the condition that they are in.
This made my whole week...love it when these phonies are exposed for the morons they really are. I'd love to see Rush Limbaugh in an open debate with Al Franken. Franken would chew him up and reduce him to a pile of oxycontin ash on the floor.
i would rather hear from the king of queens

Kevin James has a two hour radio show in Los Angeles. He probably has more listeners in those two hours than most Air America hosts have all week.
Plus, that's one helluva Fumigali tie he's wearing!

When did liberals start hoping for insane ass beatings? You people are really starting to show your true colors. Are you even aware of that?
