compare and contrast, the foaling above, where everything was done right, and this one, recently broadcast live by National Trusts MyFarm project. MyFarm's staff plan to put the mare in the video mentiond below back into foal; and the same people will deliver the next one...

This is the ONLY time I have seen a foal get pulled and dragged out of the dam. There is no reason the mare couldn't get up and go lick the colt. When you dragged his sheath nearer to thr dam and his leg that was on the side he was laying on the floor got stuck on his head and he got no help. How do you expect a foal that was just born to know how to use his legs? Horses should be foaled the natural way unless they are in dier need of help
this man knows what he is doing and looks like he has foaled out his fair share of foals. he is trying ot stimmulate the foal and is taking care of its naval. taking the babe by the front legs to his momma so she can lick him and stimulate his circulation and breathing. This is something that I have done with my mares when they foal. I figure why dry them when mom should to help with bonding
@jojorama29 He is being a little rough when he picks him up, but babies are very limber. I breed Shires and I always talk to my horses, the most surprising thing here isn't the picking the foal up and dragging him (I prefer to scoot my babies to their momma) but the lack of talking to the mare during her foaling to make it easier on her and her baby.
The foal is a colt (male) and was born on 12th January 2010. He was named Cotebrook Ben Lomond by one of our visitors to Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre. He makes his debut in the showring today at Cheshire Show. Wish him luck! Visit us on facebook for more information and photos.
