  • resession surely?

  • Amen octavebasse8.

  • Though they were not under his direction at the time of this recording, the choir is still a testament to the fine direction of Gerre Hancock and his excellent musicianship. My he continue to sing with the celestial chorus. He will be greatly missed!

  • is this still anglican, church of england? and can they still wear scarlet, only the queens chapels can here?????

  • @Bigbearbeau They're affiliated with the Episcopal Church USA so they don't really have to follow rules. However, many churches in the US which once were affiliate with the Church of England at the time of their dedication, often wear scarlet. St. Thomas is not an exception.

  • I think the audio and the video are not occurring at the same time. The psalm (sung in the recording) sounds like there is a director cuing the choir. There is also no sound of footsteps. Finally, the sound of the choir does not change as the recording progresses as it would if they were moving around the entire church.

  • It is wonderful the hear that the Anglican Chant style of psalm is used in the USA. I am glad to say that it is still very much a major part of thurch services that I attend in Anglican Churches here in Australia. It would have to be one of the greater musical contributions for the Anglican church

  • We do it here in Lincoln Cathedral too, after Eucharist on Sundays.

  • Yorkminster England do this, but from memory, not difficult but hey

  • I should add in re earlier coments that they had already chanted two psalms earlyer in the service before the readings. This was in place of a recessional hymn.

  • I can confirm that this is chanting as the recesional, I was there tonight and heard this very chant of the 150th Psalm as they recessed. It is glorius beyond words. It puts this recording to shame.

  • Come on support this wonderfu Church!!!!!!!l

  • WONDERFUL, BUT WHERE IS EVERYBODY!!

  • Good ole' Orison......

  • Honestly... One of the most beautiful recordings of this chant. ;)

  • @kcksboy - at the end of every Sunday Evensong Psalm 150 is sung on the Procession out instead of a hymn. This does not replace the psalm sung earlier in the service. They are chanting as they walk.

  • @ x8lover - i believe what we're seeing here is actually a video of a recessional hymn. JOHN SCOTT would not expect his choir to sing Anglican Chant whilst walking; how could they blend and keep together in the movement of the text? So, I believe, rather than a visual of everyone standing still (with no movement, as it is during a Psalm), they tried to make it more interesting visually, but recorded the Psalm, as usual, standing in choir loft, and presented during the WORD section of the mass.

  • @kcksboy This is psalm 150 sung during the recessional. It is sung in procession and NOT standing still. The choir has been doing this for at least 20 years when I last sang there as a sub. If I remember correctly, it is done only at Evensong and I think it's an Atwood tune. Btw, there are generally far more than 70 people for the Liturgy of the Hours.

  • @kcksboy They do it after every Sunday Evensong. And they keep it together wonderfully.

  • Beautiful thanks

    Les Loupiots

  • Good grief, people! If this were Sunday's principal service the attendance of 70 or so worshipers (in addition to the choir) would indeed be disappointing; but this is the third (evening) service of the day!

  • @pfi74 Quite right. In fact I believe this is the 4th service on Sunday as there is usually an 8,9 and 11 am eucharist.. At 4pm on a Sunday with Fifth Avenue (and all the other attractions) in New York as competition and Football on TV, getting 70 people for the Liturgy of the Hours is not bad.

  • So few people at service...

  • Beautiful! Sad that so many people are not there! It would so be my church if I were in nyc!

  • No its not. The psalm is usually sung after the general confession if the service is true to the ancient order. The book of common prayer is quite prescriptive that the psalm is part of the ministry of the word. If anything they should be processing out to a hymn. Its hard enough to chant a psalm following the pointing whilst static let alone whilst moving.

  • Vocally and stylistically wonderful. Thank you John Scott and Choir!

  • Thank you so much- love this video of my "adopted" Church of over twenty years ago.

I love the Evensong services and especially love this sung Psalm at the end of the services.

    As always, beautiful and moving.

  • Where are all the people?

  • The Psalm was during the Recessional? Is this correct?

  • @kcksboy Yes!
