If I can amybe remember my 80's a little, Rhythm Method (yes that was their name then) opened for Duran Duran at the Detroit City Club; what a time this period was.
Funny that VEVO & Sony-BMG gave Rhythm Corp its own channel but SBMG has yet to reissue its discography or make it available for us to buy at iTunes. WTF's up w/that???

From all the videos that MTV played during this time, THIS video remained in my mind for all these years. Loved this song from the very first time I herad it...still love it. And amazingly, it's really revelant for today's world.
This was from one of the Top 10 albums of the 80s IMHO. Terrific songwriting & energy from start to finish, plus Michael Persh's outstanding vocals. I still play this album to this day (on vinyl, no less!).
Go see them at Arts, eats and beats in royal oak MI Sat. sept 4 at 7pm and a after party at midnight. This band is exceptional. Their musical arrangements and lyrics are great. In my opinion they'er one of the most underrated band of all time.
Sure, we can all get along once we're all assimilated into the Obama great space coaster! Fly ! Fly left Fly! Everybody left! Lets go left! Fight everything that happened yesterday! This video is what, 22 years old? Pfffsh, so ignorant and bigoted, and look at all the oil products. My my. No use crying over spilled milk, it's all a yesterday sooner or later.
Are you on crack? What the hell is "Obama's great space coaster"? And what does "Flight everything that happened yesterday" mean? *rolls eyes*
"Ignorant and bigoted"? How is this video "ignorant and bigoted"? Be specific.
"Fly left fly"? "Let's go left"? Huh?
If you had to guess, how many brain cells would you estimate you're operating on? Why don't you go find some LSD threads? You'd be a lot more at home in that environment. Good grief, what a loon.
@Ken5244 You're way too uptight bro and have no sense of humor. Obviously, you completely missed the subtleties of my comments and have immediately resorted to personal insults. You know, I've never seen a personal attack feed a hungry child.
Not uptight in the least. And as Sgt. Hulka said in STRIPES, "I have a helluva sense of humor."
I definitely missed "the subtleties of your comments." Please enlighten me re what "Obama's great space coaster," "fight everything that happened yesterday," and "fly left fly" mean. And again, how is this video "ignorant & bigoted"?
Re "personal attacks," you attacked me first by calling me "self-righteous" (in the "Satellites" thread. Don't dish it out if you can't take it, troll.
november 9. 1989...no more wall... it's nice to think some our favorite music might have been part of the reason it isn't there anymore...
i'd already lived 26 years with nightmares of missiles raining down on my little town (fort worth had an important military base making it target # 3 on the soviet's hit list for a while). the only comfort when thinking of the worst possible future was thinking i would die in an instant. what a way to live...
Listened to the album today. It had been a while. Still love the whole thing. The follow up was not as strong but has its moments. I even saw the band live once. It was a fun show. Glad this video was up. Thanks to whoever did that.
@6696ful : I have no clue the amount of money they made but if you understood Rhythm Corps you would know it never had anything to do with the money. They all had something to say and wanted to be heard. I think they are what the music industry needs now!!! A band with brains, writes all their own songs and doesn't need a studio to make them sound good or great for that matter.
This song reminds me of being 15 and thinking I knew it all. The fights with my Dad. Too bad he is not alive for me to tell him now i understand his point of view. I have a daughter now and realize all the worries I gave him. I have the daughter I was. God Bless you Dad. I hope I can give to my daughter, all that you gave to me.
If you like this find their 2nd lp called 'The Future's Not What It Used To Be'....you can get it on E Bay. A song on that great record called Mother is similiar to Common Ground but BETTER...the whole record is fantastic. These guys were better than ALL of their contemporaries. AWESOME band.
You're right. I got "The Future's ...." just before it went outta print. These guys were indeed awesome -- I don't care for the song "Satellites" much, but pretty much everything else was great. "Father's Footsteps," "Cold Wire," "Solidarity," etc. -- love that first album.
Sadly, the first album came out right as grunge was taking off. Plus their record company was weak & they didn't get proper promotion. And why they got mis-cast and toured with The Psychedelic Furs & The Jam is beyond me.
I liked Satelites too...it reminds me of Roadrunner by The Modern Lovers, plus Micheal Persh tore the vocal UP, like he always did....damn,what a great singer. This really is a matter of wrong place/wrong time.....CBS promoted another band they had at the time called Toad The Wet Sprocket who were similiar but not as good as Rhytmn Corps and they did pretty well.....shame.
Bono once said he wasn't crazy about U2's song "Beautiful Day" 'cuz the chorus was weak. That's how I feel about "Satellites." I don't hate the song -- I just think it falls a bit short of their otherwise high level. The verses & lyrics are good though.
You're right about Michael as a singer, though -- he was bloody great and totally underrated.
IIRC, Rhythm Corps was signed to Pasha Records, a CBS subsidiary, & they had little money or clout & went bankrupt.
I hear you on Satelites..it sure ain't Mother,Martin,or World by Storm which Michael just TORE the hell out of...WOW.
Pasha was able to get a regressive crap combo like Quiet Riot over, these guys should've been a no brainer. I heard this record and thought 'Well, that's that, they'll be rich rock stars now"....I don't mind being wrong, but in Rythmn Corps case I shouldn't have been.
Epic giving Michael Jackson 50 million or something stupid didn't help...they dropped a bunch of bands then.
I know. Quiet Riot's METAL HEALTH was the only album Pasha ever had a hit with, and that was back ~ 1983. After that it was all downhill, and by the time Rhythm Corps signed ~ 1987 or '88, I guess the label was too weak. And with the grunge train leaving the station shortly thereafter, they were sunk.
And CBS apparently didn't wanna help out. Like you say, I guess they had other priorities ... like Michael Jackson. It was all about the cash by then. :-(
Was it 1983? Jeez, age sure does flatten a man, doesn't it? WOW,,,,
Have you heard either or the EP's the band put out before they signed with Pasha? They are exceptional records, esp the second one called Esprit De Corps. There's a song on that record called Night And Day I'll bet you'd love...Michael is awesome on it, The first one called Paquet Ce Cinq had the original version of Solidarity. On Esprit De Corps Persh did a solo acoustic version, and they put them together on Common Ground.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Quiet Riot's METAL HEALTH came out in 1983. I was young at the time, but I remember the two singles were all over the radio for ~ 6 months. I never understood why -- they were very weak songwriters and a third-rate metal band at best. MTV, I guess.
Re the EPs, I'm sorry to say I haven't heard 'em. I didn't discover RC until COMMON GROUND came out, and I've never been able to find the EPs. I'd really love to hear ESPRIT DE CORPS -- others have remarked how good it is.
Love this song. The 80's opened up a portal for creative music that really makes me believe in quantum theory even more. Anyway, if you want to strum along on guitar, Capo on the 5th fret and play G and C. The Bridge part is D then C.
If you liked this song, you should try to find the Common Ground CD and listen to the other tracks. Almost all of the titles on the CD are just as profound and appealing as this one. Especially poignant is "Solidarity." These songs get your blood pumping but also get your mind ticking.
I agree with you tapaccountsonly. I had the cassette in the 80's. I recently bought the cd off the internet. I realy like Father's Footsteps. Common Ground reminds me of being a teenager and having issues with not being able to relate to my father.
