This movie would have been critically hailed as equal to Rocky if they had removed one scene. I think this movie was flawless until he starts ...running through the streets of Philly with what amounted to the entire public school population.
That and that alone was unrealistic. The rest of the movie was just as gritty and realistic as the first and might have been up for awards.

Great series, but several of the films seemed to ignore Rocky's own history. In Rocky II, he has a bad eye which he can't see out of properly and could lose the sight in if he fights again. Nevertheless, he goes on to have a savage rematch, makes ten title defenses, suffers a brutal defeat, again wins the rematch, then come up trumps in an attritional fight against a giant who could supposedly kill with one punch. And the bad eye was never again a factor in any of that! Lol.
Dude, I saw III in the theatre in '82 as a very youngster, and had already been long indoctrinated in Rocky culture. I look back and say the same thing because by the time I knew what was up Rocky had already done beat Apollo. Imagine not knowing there would even be a "rematch"????
This has always been my own favorite sequel/ And if there is a list of best sequels it should be number one. Acting, storyline, and direction were spot on. Why this never got nominated for anything less than best picture of the year, I will never know.
You know, today we take it for granted that there are six Rocky films. But can you imagine what the reaction must've been like when this trailer first aired?
"There's gonna be a sequel? He's gonna fight Apollo again? F**k yeah! I hope he wins this time!"
I would've reacted like they were two real fighters and they had just announced a rematch.
This is my favorite Rocky movie because of what Mickey says, "He doesn't just wanna beat ya. He wants to bury ya, he wants to humiliate ya. He wants to prove to the whole world that it wasn't nothing but some kind of FREAK the first time out."
To me, this fight was 10x harder for Rocky...fighting a focused, pissed off Apollo.
As a kid, I used to always jerk off looking at Rocky in his leather jacket. He looked so good in it. I sometimes would jerk off on my dads leather jacket at the same time.
My late stepfather took me to see Rocky II when I was about 10, so every time I see this I think of him - he was like my real father - R.I.P.

The part about "This fight is gonna be a war" is not in the film as released, I don't believe.
