In Germany I saw these bugs, maybe twice the size of a ladybug. Red & black, but the pattern on them looked like a little skull. What are they?

Also, WTF is a meerspinne - 'sea spider' doesn't make sense. The little village of Gimmeldingen where I was staying has totally run with the theme & has them all over the place in their architecture.

Most of them are red with black spots, some are orange/yellow-ish with a lot of black spots, and some are black with red spots...

Oh there are all kinds of ladybugs. We used to learn about them a little in biology, and they can come in all types of colors. wiki it, you'll be surprised (plus: cute pictures LOL)
