  • Sega Master System was a great console. Very popular in several countries including Brazil, yet never took off in the US or Japan. Is Panasonic related to an electronics brand called "National"? "Just slightly ahead of our time" was used in some old 1970s commercials I saw on YouTube for "National" electronics featuring ABBA.

  • OMG I STILL HAVE THE KEN DOLL IN EXACT OUTFIT! GREAT TO SEE THE COMMERCIAL AGAIN.. SO MANY MEMORIES!

  • is that Don LaFontaine for monstroid?

  • This is the most eclectic collection of commercials you've posted. Barbie and beer advertised during the same program? Wacky!

Just how many different sandwiches has Jack in the Box introduced and dropped over the years? That club sandwich looks really good.

So the family in the Panasonic ad dragged their TV on their camping trip, and decided to watch it instead of nature?

Somehow, I don't think it's safe for a 4-year-old kid to just follow a drumline down the street.

  • LOL! The kitty cat rubbing the lamp...too cute.

  • i miss my teddy ruxpin i used to have it i remember getting it for christmas...

  • pizzaz sounds more like 'possesed' to me.

  • Haven't you heard? SPARKS are just "The 80s!"

I hear ya about the NES, I *finally* also got mine in Xmas '89, had to survive off the Atari 7800 Pro System till then.

Also, $30 in 1986 dollars was roughly TWICE that in 2009. Plus, it's Disney, so you know it means expensive. Reminds me of that Top Gun VHS from an earlier volume at the Unbelievable Price of $26.95! Don't forget we had to wait nearly a YEAR for each of those tapes to come out, compared with only 3-4 months w/DVD!

  • I used to have that barbie glow in the dark dress. (With the stars on it.) I don't remember the parasol that came with the glowing star dress. It could have been my older sister's barbie dress or we bought it, @ garage sale or friend give it us. I was 4, in 1986. (I think, my older sister got it, on her birthday or Christmas.) The parasol, might have gotten lost or stolen. We don't even have the dress anymore.

  • That looks like Rob Morrow as the son in the Eggo commercial.

  • PIZZAZ-AZ-AZ-Az-az-az-az-az-az-z-z-z-z

  • :08 Wow. Monstroid really screwed things up! LOL ;)

  • Eggos was around when I was 4 years old?

    I had that Teddy Ruxpin.

  • That Pizzaz commercial is hilarious!

  • 80s Jack in the Box jingle at 3:03

  • @Japanexican I still miss the jingle!

  • I remember how much I wanted "The Little Mermaid" on VHS back when it first came out, and it was a big deal because we didn't buy a whole lot of VHS tapes. We RENTED, baby!

  • Why is there no GREEN shade of Pizazz?! I know when I think of Pizazz, I think of the chick from the Misfits on "Jem"!

  • sparks around those hair products would make your head explode!

"special fabric used for TV" means "don't expect this product to look anything like what we've displayed here"

    "new" for 1986 LOL

    that twix commercial is awesome

sleeping beauty is my fave too. i love the 3 fairies

  • i think it's george newborn (don't tell mom the babysitter's dead/father of the bride) in the twix commercial.

  • Being caught up on housework is great. Being caught up with bills is even better!

But being caught up to 80's commercials edition 102 is the saddest feeling of my life!

    MOOOORE! You cannot rest!

LOL, thanks though, you have made my boring overnight job something to look forward to!

  • I may have only see like 3 seconds of the commercial, but I want Monstroid!

Too bad it sounds like a cute name for monster hemorrhoids.

  • omg I had that barbie lol

  • Dream Glo Ken likes to talk about his feelings

  • Wow! 30 bucks for a cassette tape in the 80s! I can believe that because in the early 90s I purchased The Honeymooners from Columbia House on vhs for 20 bucks a tape every month(1 tape=2 episodes). I bought 15 tapes. I wish now that I'd waited. Who knew about dvd?

You gotta love those 80s hairstyles

  • That Meow Mix commercial might be my new favorite of all time. "Amazing" IS an understatement. It's a shame that it cuts out during the cat's reaction shot to the genie being summoned.

My mom still owns the first release Sleeping Beauty VHS.

  • I want some of that Pizazz stuff :) Ahhh the 80's

  • great

  • Commercial at 0:24 - The 80's have just exploded on my face!!!

  • I remember watching that old vhs copy of Sleeping Beauty at daycare a lot. Maleficent always gave me the creeps. Not as bad as Ursula, but pretty close.

  • i want pizzaz!!!!

  • I can't believe VHS tapes used to be $30. DVDs are cheaper than that.

  • I remember when DVD's used to be the same price. Everything's gotta be expensive. Stupid money.

  • ...and don't forget $30 dollars was waaaay more money back in 1986 than 2009.

  • what about Blu-Rays and its combo packs?

  • From a manufacturing point of view, a VHS tape costs a lot more to produce than a DVD. A DVD is just a plastic disc stamped on an assembly line and a VHS tape is a long piece of magnetic tape in a case with small moving parts.

And since home video was relatively new back then, people were willing to pay a premium price to watch movies at home. Of course, evil video pirates (Like my parents) had two VCR's, rented tapes and made their own dubs.

  • We did too! In fact, we just dubbed two kids' movies from our local library last weekend!

  • @80sCommercialVault hahaah my parents did too hahaha and i do it now just record off of the ondemand cable box to vhs hahahaah

  • Muggle423, believe it or not, back in the late 80s and early 90's, many new release VHS tapes were still about $90.00! Needless to say, most people did not have large movie collections back then. Instead of buying movies, everyone recorded them off of HBO, or other cable movie networks. The quality was horrible. We've all got it good with DVDs, and digital media.

  • even some some Blu-rays

  • Some of those hairstyles seriously look like Halloween wigs. WTF were people of the 80s thinking when they thought a giant poof would look good?

  • If 80's fashion had continued to produce more and more outrageous hairstyles, I predict that the predominant form of entertainment of the 21st century would have been to watch girls flight to the death using only their hair and various fashion accessories as weapons.
