Oh yes stafffilo. I don't think I've ever heard a more extreme contrast in a da capo aria than here. Honestly, I don't know of a singer who'd be able to incorporate this "switch" around 3:30 between the extremes as perfectly as she does. And her last 2 "vedrò" at 4:04 and 4:12, well ... simply blow me away!
I hate whenever a conductor pushes the tempo so crazy fast. Thank god, La Didonato was able to keep up with it with aplomb. I must say it was rather a rocky ensemble, still. Thank you so much for posting this, Gudrun. I can't believe I haven't already subscribed to you as I saw so many of your clips. Well, now I do. Thanks again, and I'll eagerly await more of Didonato's Ariodante.
Yes the problem of this production was the crazy tempi of the conductor... i was there in first line , and during all the night i saw the singers trying to make understand to kenneth montgomery that the tempo was bad! thanks god it was a good cast!

That was thrilling. I'm very glad I'm not the one who got her angry.

Me too, Habrolissimo. Esp. the last two "vedrò" leave no doubt she is serious.

Indeed. She creates the role model of a da capo aria here.
