  • nice video if you are teaching people to unscrew and screw in screws, you mentioned needing a de-soldering braid where did you use it in the video? I would think showing how to replace a cap on the board would be of more importance in a "How to repair" video than a demonstration of dissembling the unit. . . .

  • Thanks for putting this video up, my LG has this problem and your fix looks to be very simple, Thanks again!!

  • @chipotletv 4:17 Is this an INDUCTOR at the bottom end of your thumbnail??

My TEAC has a backlight problem after 20-30 seconds and this thing seems to be burned or something(The coil has popped out at the bottom).Could it be it causing the problem?Tnx

  • @sbartsa Hi there, Most likely, if thats the circuit that delivers the 24 v for the backlight inverter, If you still have problems let me know. Be safe!

  • @chipotletv Hi,tnx for the quick answer. So i replaced all the caps but one(which i couldn't identify) but the problem persists. The gui at the store told me that probably it's not the inductor since they don't actually burn on the inside. My problem is that for a couple of minuits i have image but then goes out all of a sudden. So something is wrong but in the tablet it all looks good- so if i open and close the TV could this burn the malfunctioning item and show me the problem?Tnx

  • This video works!! We had 2 blown capacitors on an LG LCD not even 3 yrs old. Ordered the capacitors (plus extras) for $10 and now the TV is working great. It is as easy as shown on video.Took about 30 minutes. Thanks!

  • i love your music i was bopping my head all the time

  • so i have a vizio tv,when i plug the tv only the vizio emblem lights up and you can hear noise by the power supply but nothing else happens and i check for busted capacitors and they all look good any other ideas? does the caps need to be busted from the top or they can go bad other ways? thank you.

  • @panchovillaxx7 Hi there, what kind of noise? clicking sound? not all caps need to be bulged or leaking in order to be bad, you can test them with an ESR meter, I have a vid on that, but if you dont want to spend on a ESR meter, you can repleace all caps, they are usually very cheap, if that doesnt solve the problem, check for shorted FETs, (transistors), thats the 2nd comon cause of power supply failure. let us know how it went. have a great one!

  • @chipotletv Hello

    Thank you for your posts

I have a samsung I need to fix... I think I'm missing some wires, on that power board, I don't see anything that connects to the ON/OFF button-user interface.. I think I'm missing wires, I see on this video on 2'20 sec and on some wires that connect to the power board on that side.. I think I'm missing those.. where would I get a wire diagram and also where would I buy just the specific wires that I'm missing? This tv was given to me as is

  • @chipotletv thank you for reply,it wasn't the powers supply it was the main board,i did a reflow on it and started working again,do you have any idea if the reflow will fix the problem for good?

  • @panchovillaxx7 It could, the thing with fixing electronics, is that you can get all kinds of problems, and ususally not the same, in this case it seems your main board had a cold solder. Hope its still working, have a great one! take care.my firend

  • 6 capacitors was changed but still got problem. After 15 mins, turn off itself.

    What should I do?

  • @MrBlindghost Hi there, a few questions.

does the caps you changed were bulged or leaking?

After changing them did it improved anything, time on before shutting down?

Does everything works fine while turned on? Cause it could be 2 causes, either bad caps, or the Tv is protecting itself for some other problem, my bet is bad caps. keep me posted to keep helping you. have a nice one

  • @chipotletv Hi My LCD is same as ur model. after 30 mins, turn off itself. So I tried to solve with ur uploading video.6 capacitors changed but same as before.

Please tell me,what is the next step! Thanks

  • @MrBlindghost Hi there, does the caps you changed were bulged or leaking?, sometimes there are bad caps still there just about to bulge, I would recomend changing the rest of them on, its the cheapest way to rule out causes, you can test them, but you'll need a capacitance meter and a ESR meter in order to be sure if they are ok. I want to add that you could change all of them and still have the same prob. but lets try that first, Keep me posted. Have a great one!

  • Also, i was a bit tired when i explained "ghosting". The lines are not of the previous image, but appear to just be solid white lines that flicker around different parts of the screen.

  • @Sarkosity Hi there, morning, I just poseted a new video named how to fix vertical lines on half of screen, check it out and tell me if those are the type of lines you are refering to. have a nice one!

  • I have a 19" dynex lcd tv, power light blinks several time, but never gets picture or sound, and when i put my ear up to the tv I hear a high pitch humming sound in side the tv. Can anyone tell me what part this needs?

  • I have to ask, my 19" LCD displays a perfect image for a few minutes before flickering lines start to appear on the TV. Eventually either cutting to a blank blue image Still playing the audio from the show, or shuts off completely. This appears to be more noticeable in the heat, and happens more rapidly when the TV is warm.

  • @Sarkosity Hi there, what kind of lines? vertical or horizontal? half of screen? all screen?, steady bars? ghost like?, does the remote control functions, menu, volume etc, are affected by this lines?

  • @paulinopad They are horizontal and flicker around the entire screen. There is a particularly large rectangle that flickers in the lower left. I suppose they could be considered "ghost like". Remote control functions occasionally stop working, sometimes i am unable to turn off the TV by the remote or the buttons on the TV, and have to do it through the power socket.

  • @Sarkosity It seems, but can't assure you, that you have a bad bond problem, to better diagnose, get a can of instant freeze spay, and while turned on when the lines start appearing spray the edge of the screen with it, in your case the left side from top to bottom, and viceversa. if it fix it for a moment, then you can be sure thats the problem. Now if thats the case, theres a good chance to get if fix. let me know to keep on with the fix. Take care

  • @chipotletv I don't have the instant freeze spray and i'm not too keen on purchasing some, however if you believe that there is a possible solution if cooling it temporarily restores, i would say it's safe to assume that it's the issue. In cold ambient temperatures it runs much for much longer, on the hottest days it wont last five minutes.

What would be the proposed solution for the bond problem? I'm not at all concerned if the TV is broken in attempt to fix it.

  • I am hoping someone may have some ideas. I have an APEX LCD 4688 I bought Xmas 2010 that just went out (1year and 1 month after purchase, hmmmm). The power indicator light at the bottom right of the TV is on but there is no sound or picture. Apex is now owned by another company and the rep was not surprised of the problem but could not tell me what was wrong, he was also chuckling during the conversation at points which indicated a very common issue and no solution. any ideas?

  • @520littlebit Hi there, I've never had an Apex for service, but they are all the same, so lets troubleshoot it my friend, Few questions. When you turn it on, does the power indicator in front of the tv, changes color? like green or orange?, does it shows any kind of menus eventhough there is no picture or sound? do you have a multimeter? do you know basic electronics?. think thats all the questions for now to start. Be safe!

  • @520littlebit Fill your bath tub with water, plug in the TV in the bathroom, and throw it in the tub. Bring an umbrella.

  • I have a sanyo 32 inch about 2 years old and it wont turn on, i have checked where the power button plugs into the board and i am not getting voltage to that part

  • @Ronnieboat Hi there, when the tv is plugged in, do you see any led on on the front of the tv? the standby one.?

  • Awesome video. Mine has a similar issue. My question - where do can you purchase capacitors? Anywhere online?

  • @diazbrosbeer yes, almost everywhere, online, electronics parts shops, radio shack, robotics, etc etc. have a great one!

  • @diazbrosbeer radioshack has capacitors

  • Hi, I wonder if you could help me with this problem with my Samsung 50 in. Lcd. The problem is that, it shows lines acrros the screen and sometimes double images. But, everything goes fine after 20-30 minutes. Please help!!!!

  • @dungnguyen787 Hi there Your problem may be due 3 causes, bad flex, bad bonding or bad tcon, first i'll recomend you to reseat the flex cables, be careful on how you remove them, dont pull them, pull the release tab then reseat them. if that doesn't fix your problem, try presing gently the bonding tabs of the screen, first the upper ones and then the ones on the side. If still your prob persists it may be a bad t con. Please comment results, and Be very careful!! don't want you to get inured.

  • Great video! I was wondering if you could help. I have a 22" ViewSonic VX2233WM LCD monitor with extremely washed out color. The monitor powers on and displays just fine, except the back-light is uneven and very bright (all black looks grey). Controls on the monitor itself to adjust brightness and contrast aren't nearly enough to make a difference. I've opened up the monitor and can't see any noticeable failure of capacitors on either the inverter or the mainboard. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • @dulluthmn Hi there, just to be sure, its a pc monitor right?, do you have a video card or is the built in on the mother board?, if so, either way try changing the resolution. Let me know how it went.

  • THANK FOR THE HELP WORK FIND

  • Thxs.... for the update on the capacitors. But I have another problem. My Toshiba 32" LCD TV

model number 32HLV16 won't power up. But it does show the amber light still on. Some people say its a fuse. Can you help on this thxs again.

  • @Mrinfoone Hi there, don't think its a fuse, since you say you get an ambar led light, that means there is current flowing into the lcd. set, It's more likely to be a power supply issue, first thing check that the power supply board is delivering the necesary voltages, (24, 12, and 5), be very careful! if you dont what you are doing, you may get injured!,

  • How do you know how to put back the capacitors with out reversing there polarity when you re-install. Does it say on the board or indicate it? But what if it doesn't say or show?

  • Comment removed

  • @Mrinfoone Yes, all the boards have markings, you'll see a circle divided, one half will be solid, thats the negative side, where the capacitor stripe goes, some other boards, have a minus or plus sign, and if you are not sure, just take another capacitor and see how are they marked. Be safe!

  • @chipotletv Most are marked + and - on the solder side of the board too.

  • And if marked |-( the side with the ( is negative, or the striped side. You can see what I mean when Chipotle is desoldering around 3:43

  • I was just wondering if you could help me, I plug my tv into the mains and the white LED light comes up as usual but when i press the power button the LED starts to flash continuously and also sometimes i'l plug the tv into the mains and the LED will come up as usual but when i press the power button the LED light will go and then the screen will flicker for a second and then go back into stand-by. Please help!!

  • I have a Polaroid FLM 3232 and when it heats up after running for 3 or more hours it will go off with indicater lamp still on "red", we unplug it for 1 hour and it will come back on and work until it goes off later, checked power board no popped caps but 1 of the 2 transformers on the board gets hot and shows bubbly marks underneath?

  • @MrHerbert694 Hi there, we need to go step by step,. first thing try to identify the sections of the PSB, usually they have 3 transoformers, separted into circuits, the main one, the inversor one (24V) and the main board one (12, 5v), still change the caps on the board of the circuit that its heating up, cause not all caps bulge when they fail, after that, monitor the temperature to see if its still heating up, also check resitors and diodes on that area, coment your results, be carefull!

  • Thank you for your reply.when I start the tv it loads up real slow and when I power it down it slowly turns off with a flash of blue. No menu or brand name at start up.After sometime it just goes blank and the pictures resumes, and today it started flashing rapidly(ahhh!).I did use a flashlight and could not see any image when the screen turned off. Thanks

  • @arnoldprime Hi there, well, could be several things, but to narrow it down you'll have to bare with me, first we need to be sure, the power supply board its working perfectly, sometimes, caps dont bulge but still loose their ESR value. First measure the output voltages, you'll likely have 24 to the inverter board, and 12v going to the main board, some models may have a 5v line(s) also. Just be very careful! let me know how it went.

  • @chipotletv Thanks, I will get those reads as soon as my multimeter comes in the mail.

  • I have a 42mf438b/f7 Magnavox the screen goes black sometimes like if something is lose.

I can still hear the audio. But after opening the tv I do not see any damaged capacitors

any idea what to do next? Thanks.

  • @arnoldprime Hi Arnold, Do you see any menu displays on the screen?, or the brand name while you turn it on? if not It sounds like a bad inverter module or lamps, try this to be sure, turn on the LCD tv, get close and use a flash light pointing at the screen to see if you can see the image. Let us know what did you see. Take care!

  • Great video it saved me from having to buy a new tv thanks

  • Great job...I'm subscribing!

  • Hi

Great video and easy to follow.

I have a Samsung LE3288RBD and the picture is all sotes of colours.Could it be the pcu board that is causing the problem.Having watched your video I can see one of the capacitors is bulging on the top.

Would a problem on this board cause the colour problem?

    Any advice welcome.

  • Good video! I am having problems with IBM 9513-AG1 15" monitor, after a few minutes warm-up five about 1-½" wide white vertical bars appear on screen, equal width with five "good picture bars" in between the blanks. When set has been off and cooled down it starts up normal, then same bars appear again in a few minutes. There is only 3 electrolyte caps on the main board and one on the inverter board, they all look good outside. Where should I start fixing things, caps or inverter board?

  • @tmaleinonen Hi there, I dont think your problem are the caps, it sounds more like bad lcd mebrane, try this, by instant freeze spray at an electric shop, and when the bars start to apear spay the edges of the screen, to cool it down, if it fixes, its very likely you would have a bad contact on the membrane, which could be fixed by presing it, some guys fix it stucking something to keep preasure between the membrane and the frame to correct this, hope you can fix it!

  • @chipotletv Hi man, Looks like you were right, opened up the display altogether, checked all cable connections and membrane contacts. Put back together and twisted the membrane retainig clips a bit tighter, and it works! At least so far... as there is 10 groups of contacts on top of membrane, each about 1-½" wide, weird that somehow just every second contact had failed?? Thanks a million!

  • @tmaleinonen You are very welcome, glad you were able to fix it, have a nice one!

  • LIFES NOT GOOD WITH LG

  • i think one of the capacitors on my pc screen has blown, every time i plug the monitor in, it keeps turning on and off constantly. But here the thing when i opened it up i cant see any damage or blown capacitor. i was wondering if theres another way of testing each capacitor with a digital multimeter, but i its not a good idea whilst the capacitors are still connected to the board

  • @kinstar but i heard its not a good idea whilst the capacitors are still connected to the board****

  • Hello, the video was extremely informative, thanx. I have a question though. I replaced 3 capacitors in my vizio lcd tv and I forgot to check the polarity before taking out the old and putting in the new. what signs or symptoms will I see if I put them in wrong? thanx again.

  • @brhughey The board is usually marked either with the + sign or the - sign. sometimes a half circle is colored, that side is the negative, you can see the other capacitors to see how are they marked in the board. The color stripe along the capacitor, indicates the negative lead., if you put them with reverse polarity they will blow up or get bulged.

  • what could be the couse of a flatscreen tv turning itself of on its own after say 3 or 4 minutes ?

  • @fordescort1800 It seems like its a capacitor problem, try replacing them, Ic could be other thing, but its very common that behaivor due to dry or bad caps. good luck!

  • @chipotletv, nice! I find it quite useful. Even though I'm not sure I want to do the fixing myself, it'll sure help in putting fraudulent repairers out of business. I will go with only the power unit and tell him exactly wat I expect him to do. That should save me up to 90% of wat he couldve charged! Thanks mate! I already shared ur link on my facebook wall.

  • I thought you might mention also that I increase the temperature rating on the caps as well. usual stock is like 85 and I like to go at least 106 I think that is mil spec.

  • thanks for the video, helped me repair my LG - 52LG50

  • Really nice guide.I'm irish ,they charge you nearly the same price to repair an lcd here as a brand new one would cost, even if the problem is small. This could save you a small fortune as long as you are very careful.

  • I have a LG plasma 50PQ20, when I push the on button, the blue light starts blinking, then immediately turns red and everything shuts off. No screen, no sound. I took the back off and all capacitors appear to be good (flat, clean) What do you suggest?

  • ok so i was watching tv today.. everythings fine.. turned off the tv... returned later and it wouldnt turn on.. no light. nothing... all exept a clicking noise coming from back of the tv...

could this be the solution im looking for?

  • replaced all capicitors .turned on tv picture better than ever !!!

problem is i have no sound now!!! anybody help ?????????/

  • hey i have a question , I bought these things for my LCD tv and now the power supply just turning the electricity off in my house i thin there is a short circuit somewhere but i dont know how i cant find it and fix it . please help me :S

  • @16saatan Do you mean you replaced the capacitors? if so, did you set them according the polarity?, it may be the cause of whats happening. also test for components check for shorted resistors, diodes, etc. first thing you need to check is that the power supply board is delivering the necessary voltages.

    Be safe!,

  • @chipotletv Yes i replaced the capacitors polarity put how i can check that the power supply board deliveing the necessary voltages i have multimeter put i dont know how i can check

  • Hello... I have a 42" LG Plasma 42PC1DA.... black screen but good sound. Removed the back and looked at the caps but none seeem raised?? I have caps that might be raised but only so slightly...... hardly even noticeable. Looked for burn spots on board but nothing.... any ideas????.

  • @calrow99 Hi Calrow, I would suggest first thing make sure the Power board is delivering the necesary voltages, check on the connectors the voltage rated. so you can narrow the problem, if the voltages are ok, Its very likely to be the inversor board, that is not powering up the backlight. Another thing, you can try, silly one is to check for video in other input, just to be sure its not the video signal. Good luck, and please be safe!,

  • ive got the same psu unit with exactly the same problem ,LG 32 inches i bought a new PSU but still the same problem, going on stand by after turn off i also try changing the capacitors but no luck. can you give me a clue what happening pls.

  • @jegoelbarako First thing I would recomend to troubleshoot, is to measure the voltages on the Power supply board, try measuring on the conectors and see if the labeled voltage is the right one. Be extreamely careful, if you dont know what you are doing you could get injured.. If the voltages are wrong, then we'll trouble shoot the board, cause the issue could be on other board and its protecting it self. Be safe.

  • Thank you you you're great

  • good job :))

  • I also heard that Samsung has a reset code on the main board is this true?

And that Samsung will only give it to authorized repair shops?? Replacement may not be worth it.

  • Great Video! I have a 2009 LCD 46" had problems with the red light coming on and powering up. Had to unplug, replug and it would come back on.

The power supply was replaced; it worked for a few days, then stopped altogether (and replaced with another that has new capacitors). The t-con module was also replaced and nothing. Some other Samsung owners had the main board replaced with success. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi thank you for such a quick response i'll give that a go.. The problem i'm trying to solve is this.. when i 1st turn on everything is fine then after 2-3 mins screen goes blank audio still fine, then after 10-15 mins screen starts to flash usually green for a further 5-10 mins till it then becomes solid green, then usually if i turn it off then straight back on everything is fine no problems no matter how long its on for. Although occasionally the process can take a little longer! Thanks

  • Excellent video easy to follow. i have an lg 42lc46 tv & following your vid removed power board & replaced damaged caps excellent all went well! re-assembled turned on still have same problem... through further research i've discovered that may be i need to short out the eeprom chip to reset it? trouble is i dont know where its located.. any ideas thanks

  • @292442 Hi there, if you still have the same issue, I would recommend to replace all caps on the power board, since not all caps that fails bulge up, you may have dry ones, with high ESR, if the problem persists after replaceing them, please describe the symptom, for a better diagnosis. Have a nice one!

  • Brilliant, We need more people like yourself to help stop people being ripped off. I will do my own now with your help. Many thanks:)

  • Very helpful for the visual folks, thanks!

  • i have this problem, just wondering what the price of repair would be on average from shop?

  • after 100 tutorials this one was one of my favorite, subscribed!!

  • Thank for that i fixed my tv a last thank you

  • @NAVANDIP I'm glad it helped you, enjoy!
