@barryhorne10 Sweet, my brother has an 87 firebird, and JUST bought an 83 Trans Am that is a K.I.T.T car. Mind you it's gonna need A LOT of work (paint, some engine work, interior) but we'll get it up to snuff this year hopefully (my brother isn't very mechanically inclined.

It's not exactly a cover. He was the first to sing this song with George Harrison and Bob Dylan as a B-side but people liked it too much.

@RachelduBrasil Dont forget Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison

I wonder! Has Tom ever recorded the song? If he sings like this it should be heard by everyone.

Scott Thurston is amazing, and I had it playing on iTunes, and I didn't even realize it wasn't Roy singing it for quite awhile.

He's covered this in nearly all his gigs but this version is his best one yet
barryhorne10 2 years ago
Not really a "cover" when he was one of the members of the Traveling Wilburys.

Ofcourse. I meant he sings this all the time which is super.

This is my favorite song from the Traveling Willburys. This performance was pretty awesome. And of course Tom Petty is still an amazing performer.
Rest In Peace Roy Orbison. You are missing. In my opinion you are still the greatest singer of all time.

They came up with the name Handle with care from a box in bob's house.

sorry to say it, but George and Roy were a lot better at singing their solo parts of the song. And I mean A LOT Better.
10995 2 years ago
Maybe that's why they sung it??

I guess Tom should put this away and never sing it again, because ya know, they dont' sing it well enough for us mere mortals to listen to.

from may 1988, george made it..............

September 2006. The 30th Anniversary Concert.

It's great the hear Scott belting it. In a lot of Petty's songs he tries to match the nasally voice that Howie had that complemented Tom's well.
loppy49633 3 years ago
Scott does as good a job as possible handling the vocal, since equaling Roy Orbison is pretty much impossible. Nice work Scott!
jer114 3 years ago 9
Yeah, when I saw Petty live I was impressed by how well Scott Thurston pulled off the Orbison parts.

i feel so happy seeing and listening to this :]

You really get a feeling of how great Scott Thurston's voice is in this song, and how Tom still remembers his days with the Wilburys
darthmonkey57 3 years ago 19
And Scott Thurston's musicianship shouldn't be discounted, either!
I hated this song until I heard Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers do it live. Thanks to them, I now love it.
Actually, one time I sang this at karaoke and a guy told me I sounded like Tom Petty. I WISH!
msarzo 3 years ago 2
That's true, he is a very veersitle muscian.
He said you sound like him? That's wild, too bad you didn't have a clip XD
