This french TV series is about divorced parents that have 3 kids - 2 girls and one boy. They mostly live with they father which is some artist, and I think that mother is a nurse. Also there is young attractive girl next door, and friend(or agent) of father(artist) which are appearing in the show. It's a comedy, very good one. I watched it some 10 or 15 years ago and can't remember the title.
@Philtards The BBC threatened the producers of Stromberg with legal action as they didn't consult the BBC - it now states that it was 'inspired by The Office'
I speak pretty fluent French, but nonetheless, comedy is difficult to gauge in a foreign language - it's very tricky to spot all the subtleties of nuance and tone when it's not your mother tongue.
What do any true French speakers think of this version? Is it actually funny to native speakers?
Well it's pretty much a shot-for-shot remake of the uk version. Berleand is a better actor than Gervais, as he shows in this scene, but a little too old- in the Uk version the boss was meant to be 39 years old- which gave a certain poignancy to the role- he was young enough to move on, but not good enough.
i don't know how funny that guy is but he's definitely too old to be a David Brent or a Michael Scott. maybe it's a different kind of comedy though; which is good.
this boss is awful. david from uk version has his wicked charisma that makes people love him after all. this guy is old and looks like a sexual pervert. me no like this.
Bof. Autant je suis fan de la version US, autant j'ai du mal a accrocher la francaise. Steve Carell est tellement bon que Berleant ne fait pas le poids.
It is pretty much a literal translation with a bit of cultural tweaking - great for a French audience, and i can tell you, as a trained translator, i think they have done a great job. Dubbing or subtitling wouldnt really work here , because it is supposed to mock a corporate culture that is slightly different from the UK (for instance, blonde Dawn wouldnt come accross as a typical girl in France, whereas Laetitia does). It would be like showing the original Ugly Betty to US/UK audiences.

I agree entirely. He's a fabulous actor but the ages that Gervais and Carell portrayed are poignant to their characters.
It helps that Gervais and Carell are approximately the same age. Gervais only has one year on Carell while Berleand has 10!

Moi je trouve que Berleant est beaucoup plus marrant que Carrell... mais ce n'est que mon avis.

Everyone's saying "oh hes a paedo" or "hes a sexual pervert" but he is speaking french. Is that not reason enough?

1)He looks and sounds like a Paedophile!
2)He is nowhere near fat enough! (sorry rick)

The guy waiting for the interview even looks like Robin Ince (Gervais' mate who played him in the english version)

on second thoughts, at least the french didn't need to dumb it down like the americans did.
