  • there are settings on the power probe to make this safe to do. the power probe is the best tool in my toolbox

  • Exactly. Dont do it. The power probe wasnt the issue... The tool user was. Im a automotive diagnostic tech been in the industy for 5 years. I got a college degree. Look at a wiring diagrams before you apply voltage or grounds. BTW, supplying 12v to any 5v circuit will fry a computer even on a 1988 PCM. Computer controlled circuits HAVE to be tested using a DVOM.

  • Dont be stupid... The power probe is safe for almost any circuit. Only ignorant people fry computers.

  • @bradandtiffe I went to a class on can computer systems. The instructor replaced a couple computers in a can vehicle because someone used used a power probe 3 on a CAN line smoking these two computers. The sensors are a five volt source and you send full twelve volts to the sensors with the power probe 3.

  • CAN car computer smoker too.Can do damage to 2004 and up vehicles.NEVER probe the can line with one of these, like a gun sending 12 volts and smokes 1 or 2 computers this way.Went to a class on the CAN computer system at a trade show and the instructor said this.Includes a test light too and a DVOM is only used.
