I knew Lupul was a good player before he came to Toronto but he has become one of the best all around players in the league. Some of the passes he makes are just incredible and that goal he scored on Detroit showed that he has patience with the puck. Lupul is the best player to come to this team since Wendel Clark, or at least Gary Roberts.

Myself personally, the most pleasant surprise this year has been the chemistry between the players. This is the most exciting Leafs team I've watched play for a long time...They do these entertaining little plays and passes and it actually WORKS a good chunk of the time.  They look like they trust eachother and believe in eachother and it's just so refreshing after these last few years.

Biggest surprise is Lupul hands down,  He's been our MVP this year in my opinion. Nothing aganist Kessel but it seems to me Lupul makes Kessel better, not the other way around.

@MrBleedblueandwhite I know thats your opinion, but are you serious.. ITS BY FAR the other way around. If you actually pay really close attention, you would see that Kessels Play making ability has improved and ALL teams are on Kessel, He always has 2 guys on him which opens up the ice for Lupul and whoever is centering them. Pay attention to the powerplay... The leafs use Kessel for bait, and then they get the cross ice pass for the shot. ALL the time! Lupul is great tho.

Pleasant surprise = Phaneuf is back to old good Calgary form. The 1st,1st,2nd is finally paying off for the kessel deal. Traded Beaucheman for Lupul and Gardiner. Traded Lebda for Lombardi and Franson. Gustavsson is finally playing like he was to be like, good. Connolly was a good pick-up.

All-in-all, Burke was busy putting on a bandit mask and making some trades and signings.

Hoping to see the Wings and the Leafs battle it out New Years Day 2013 in The Big House. The league will probably go with Chicago, but from a financial stand point I think Toronto would be a better choice b/c you Canadians are cRaZy! I was at The Joe for the game last year and I think the Leafs fans almost outnumbered the Wings fans. (Of course even I was contemplating selling my season ticket seats with the prices the Leaf fans were willing to pay for a cross-conference game)

i love watching detroit against toronto... they always seem to play great hockey against each other, and of course i don't mind seeing the strangely consistent success the leafs experience against the wings in recent years :D:D:D no offence to wings fans, still gotta respect a team with datsyuk and lidstrom no matter what happens in the game. case and point THE ENTIRE SECOND PERIOD!!!!!

There was a clip of Cookie Monster (Leafs) and Elmo (Wings) in the stands that CBC showed... The best surprise is Lupul... but the other bad surprise is how the goaltending/defense, Kulemin being silent and the bad penalty kill. I expected more from Gardner as well... We'll see what happens if they can keep this up..

Being a Red Wings fan, I thought this was a great game. Detroit will try and wear down opponents with an enormous amounts of shots. This game was the same. Leafs ended up winning but still good game. Kessel Penalty Shot still questionable though
