@StewNWT Falla was injured in the 3rd set, and it clearly showed in the 5th. He didn't exactly choke, but he had to win in 3 especially with his injury or Federer would win in 5.

@anduril38 that's not entirely correct - Falla missed an easy shot on BP which would have let him serve for the match in the 3rd, but then was ACTUALLY serving for the match in the 4th and got broken

@StewNWT Exactly though, he got broken, and from that moment Federer was able to dominate. Still, I agree it wasn't as simple as all that, as even with his injury Falla played extremely well until the 4th set tiebreak.

@DrCarmac ok here's my counter; if rafael nadal played right handed, he would have zero grand slams. all his wins over federer are due to a match up problem. federer has a 1 handed eastern grip backhand, which can't deal with high balls. nadal has a western forehand which produces the highest bounce.

A very poor hitting by federer on that day, he didnt get the lines and his shots were too in the middle and very weak, without any effects and ball bouncing. Besides, his movement was too disappointing, very slow. I must recognize that falla played a great match, the best ever, and that made the match so even and closed.
