i depends on what connection u have, if u have ethernet(yer computer is connected to the internet by a cable), then you connect the cable into your xbox to the same place you connect your computer, but if u have a wireless internet connection(no cords, used mostly for laptops) you need to buy a wireless adapter(about $100), once your connected pick yer account type(if you have an elite like me click on silver and u get 1 month free)
