This logo often had music and sometimes it was silent, according to a film's director's wishes. In 1978, it had a very cool variation in "Thank God It's Friday" where the torchlady danced to a disco beat before posing for the sunburst shot. The Columbia TV counterpart had a red arch instead of the one used in features (blue).
This was used from 1976-1981. Around 1981, Coca-Cola bought Columbia Pictures and by early 1982, the logo was restyled to the "80's Torchlady." The "Sunburst" logo was Columbia's idea to make a more stylish logo to replace the classic (but boring) logo from 1961 (60's Torchlady with the huge "Columbia" lettering in the background which debuted in "The Guns from Navarone" (1961).
Yes they do, since the film is set in the 1970s'. However, it's enhanced with the Sony Pictures byline and doesn't have this music. To bad at the end, it's customized.
@fjaviercorrea They never used it silent in 1978 on Close Encounters in the theatres, it was exactly as heard here, with MUSIC! I bought the Super 8mm compilation just in then hope that it would have the music on there. It did!
in the beginning it gets creepy 0:00-0:08 then the tune goes nice 0:09-0:21.

You know for the late 70's & early 80's, this logo was ahead of it's time when you think about it.

The film isn't sent in the 70's. If so, how is Michael Cera playing and Playstation?

I think that the logo theme was used from 1976-1979. I can't be too sure.
