  • you tore that up man !!! great

  • You never cease to amaze me. Give up that "day job"; this should be your calling!

  • Great song. Great Job! Great equipment!

  • STUMPED. Excellent, PT.

  • Is that a d7?

  • @privsman There's a D7 in there, yes.

  • how about a Bm, A-7, G, Em, Dmaj7, ?

  • That change to the 7th chord I never noticed before, just by ear.

  • OMG. You're killing me. I haven't heard this song since...forever, and now I want to play it :-)

  • thanks to you I will be adding Kodachrome to the songs i can now play.

  • really well done : )

  • This is my favorite rock song about photography!

  • awesome

  • Ok, after wearing out the pause button this is what I have for the bass run. Relative to the capo:

    String/Fret: 6/3, 5/Open, 5/1, 5/2, 4/Open, 5/2, 5/1, 6/3, 6/3, 5/Open, 5/1, 5/2, 4/Open, 6/3, 6/2, 6/1

Also, it appears prior to the first bass run (before the singing starts) there is runup on:

    5/2, 6/3.

    PT, am I close?

    I have no life. Rob

  • @robw95 You're close. The A string isn't played open, actually. It goes from 1st fret to 2nd fret each time rather than open to 1st fret. And there's no run-up before the singing starts (if I'm understanding you correctly).

  • @privettricker Thanks much! I didn't do a good job defining 'run-up before singing'. What I was trying to say was that the first time that you from the 'D' chord to the bass run (right at the very beginning of the song) it looks like you hit 5/2 6/3. I didn't notice that prior to the other bass runs but your fingers might have been moving too fast and I'll have to take another look. Thanks again for all these videos, they're a lifeline. Rob

  • boa essa música ai....valeu!

  • @guitarjam2009. Start working that pause button buddy. I've wished for this song for years. Today is my 3rd day working on it. I'm almost there. You can do it. Don't give up!!

  • good job, great song. Any chance of putting together a lesson.

  • Well, nice job on the cover - and 'Go-State!" :-)

  • MICHIGAN STATE !! Now we're talking - great song too. Are you an MSU fan, or do you just collect sports clothing?

  • @tgilldesign I'm a big State fan, actually.

  • Another awesome cover! My son and I are self-taught and learn a lot AND thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thank you very much!!!

  • awesome! is that a D45 you're playing?

  • @jeffkahl D41

  • Hey Mr Privettricker can you do a version of Walking The Dog? While I'm requesting how about New Rose by the Damned? Or The Only Ones Another Girl Another Planet(fantastic guitar solo(s))

  • love it

  • I am so happy that I subscribed to you, great stuff as always.

  • I was playing this with a friend over the holidays and he played it in D, a revelation for me. I wouldn't be surprised if Simon has someone playing it in E, too, since he always loves to layer on the guitars.

On the first line of the verse he plays the same D - Dmaj7 - D7 progression, just like you show later in the verse. It's not supported by the keyboards so it's not as prominent, but it's there.

  • @privetricker I think I've seen this played in dropped D tuning, are you playing in standard? Looks like a really fun tune to play.

  • @dabeefguy I'm in standard tuning. I don't know about dropped D, because I don't hear the acoustic guitar hitting a low D note anywhere in this song.

  • You've unlocked the key once again, dude. I had no idea the capo was used.

  • Always love this song, brings me back to about '73, I never knew to get the actual key it had to be capo'd.

  • @marslife01 If you're ever stumped on a Paul Simon song, try using a capo. He uses them a lot, or at least he used to.

  • @privettricker Also, PS used a guitar with Nashville tuning a lot , i.e. a six string strung with the high strings from a 12 string set. Priv, with all of your guitars, I'm surprised you haven't strung one up like that yet.

  • Go Blue!

  • Great job. Big fan. I have learned a lot watching your videos. Sure would like to see you do sounds of silence. The version with the long lead solo intro.

  • @Willistonkid I don't think I've heard a version of Sounds of Silence with a long lead solo intro.

  • @Willistonkid I don't think I've ever heard the version of Sounds of Silence with the long solo intro.

  • !Waow!plas,plas!!!!

  • perfectly played, great tune

  • Cool song!!!! Well played!

  • Tricker, YOU ARE THE DAMN MAN.

  • Never mind! I saw you do it in the 2nd verse.I may have to check the tuning on my attention span.

  • Your right about the capo.I've always played this in E no capo. This sounds and plays better and is truer to the record.I also slip a major 7th between the root and the dominant 7th at the beginning of each verse. It sounds like the keyboard is doing it on the record, and I think it adds a nice passing tone.Check it out.It would play,(without capo) E , Emaj7, E7 .Then the change to the 4 chord. I've been enjoying your site for a few months now.Thank you!

  • THE BEST!!!!!!

  • You must have one hell of an ear for music to be able to figure out all those chords and single note runs. I'm impressed and jealous.

  • Awsome!!!!

  • I just turned off my radio as pul Simon started singing this. Sat down on the computer and YouTube said "we recommend this video for you".. I'm in the twilight zone!

  • Nice. You've been really cranking them out since your reveal!

  • nice, always liked that song....

  • NICE!!! Cheers for this!

  • Nice job again PT. Paul Simon has written some gems and is also a great guitarist. Cheers for a great post.

  • I had that Ikea lamp, you should move it away from the wall, they run hot as balls and can be fire hazards. Great job on the song as always, thanks for posting.

  • They took our Kodachrome away

  • Love it haha. Can you do "Learn how to Fall"?

  • i love the inlays of that guitar !

  • Give us the nice bright colors. Give us the gre-e-ehnns of Summer......Don't take my Kodachrome away-ay.Thanks, great upload.

  • Nice one! And, in a similar vein, have you seen Kodak in Rochester recently? So many of the buildings around Kodak Park have been torn down. Driving down Ridge Road West in that part of the ciy just isn't the same. One building I saw being built as a kid in the '60's (at the corner of Ridge Road and Dewey Ave) was demolished. Kodak has gone from employing about 60,000 people to now employing 8,000. It's rather sad.

  • As usual, PT has filled in a couple key pieces to the puzzle. Nicely done and thanks again

  • great job as always :)

  • i'll say this, pt..you are versatile :)
