I didn't know that Bev was so articulate then.I had read his book in the early 80's,and loved it,but cringed and laughed when he said he tried to stay fit and look after himself.
In hindsight,he is now 65 years old and looks 45,while I am 41 and look 65!.
Yes, there may be some truth in that, but isn't the record company ultimately responsible for such things?
To sue the most creative member of your band for unpaid money is one thing, but to forget that he is actually just an employee of a record company like yourself seems a little silly.
Why didn't they just go for the record company?
It is like suing the Popes #1 Cardinal for giving you the clap, when you know you only slept with the Pope!
@neohip - Well he only paid Kelly Groucutt (RIP) $50K for his efforts with the group and Kelly took Lynne to court over it. The judge deemed that $50k was not enough and an out of court settlement was made. This all happened prior to the Zoom tour and after something like this, the pair couldnt exactly tour together. Lynne and Richard Tandy played together but the tour was a disaster and lost a lot of money. But he isn't the first tight fisted muscian to hit the stage& wont be the last
@neohip By the way, the recording company have nothing to do with group payments if the group is its own company. Take The Eagles Inc. Originally made up of Frey, Henley Felder, Meisner and Bernie Leadon. Bernie & Randy left and Frey and Henley tried to screw Don Felder out of his share of the company profits. When they reformed on 'Hell Freezes Over' Don asked to see what money was being made & was duly sacked by Frey. Don sued for wrongful dismissal and won and got an out of court settlement!
@neohip The record company does make % payments to the bands but it depends on who the band leaders are and who controls things. Most $s go to the song composers and bands maker more money touring these days so the big money is generally spread evenly. The highets to date is U2's 360 degree tour with $760million in ticket sales alone although I have heard a total figure of $922 million which would include merchandise and programmes
Yes I remember. When ELO was going to be very big by ANW Bev Bevan was their spokeman. That time in the 1970´s ELO was something special an Bevan was then their spokeman. It has always criticised that Jeff didn´t the comment too much. But it was the like all showmen and all divas. Jeff is a very big ego in his records but very shy in the public.
Great Interview I Know ELO were as big down under as ABBA at the time......Bev is now working as a DJ in Birmingham England on Smooth Radio, presents a 70's show and he plays a track from ELO every time!!!
Best wishes to Molly, the intervewer, who very nearly died this Christmas, falling off a ladder while putting up Xmas decorations, of all things.
He was in a coma for many days but is now stable and looking good.
That will learn him to try and get high in the new way, but I wish him a happy new year and many more to come!

Jeff writes songs and I speak said Bev Bevan those days.
I wonder what was the main reason Jeff Lynne was so silent in the public when
the success of ELO was at its peak in the late 1970´s.

First of all ,it is weird to see Molly with hair!
As for Jeff, He was ,and still is,shy!.
