  • its $15, it works well for the price point, but personally Id rather spend more and buy a leatherman or victorinox, which I did. =)

  • i have the Kobalt multi-tool and i agree with this completely, i got mine for free in package as a present. not knocking it to bad but its one of those disposable commodities if it gets screwed up. and with moderate to heavy use the belt loop rips right off i almost lost mine in a cement mixer. but it handled opening bags, and all the crap i put it through. great in a pinch but not overall reliable 6.3 out of 10 on my scale

  • I have a Sheffield that is just like that Kobalt minus the rubber handle. Like you said, good loaner. I do have a Leatherman Blast as well, and that is definitely my mutli-tool of choice. It goes where I go.

  • mts need scissors.

  • You should do a review about the gerber version of this. $30 not bad better than the quick pliers in my opinion.

  • Hey Veri/Nutn,I went to Sears and bought the Sheffield 17-in-1 MT and it's IDENTICAL to this except it also has an awl ,for $15.00 it's not bad but it will no replace my Wave as my favorite EDC tool

  • @CutleryNovice ya i saw the same thing for 15 bucks, everything the same but the grips. all they did was put kolbalt on it.

  • i actually had this exact tool except mine had aluminium handles, the tools inside were all the same though. I picked mine up for 10$ and i must say it came in handy allot from fixing loose screws, to even using the little saw to take some limbs of my palm tree. Despite this the tool does lack allot of thought for example the bulkyness and weight and tools like the serrated blade just didnt perform well. If you were to buy this is use it for things that you dont want to beat your leatherman on.

  • May I say that 5 out of 10 would be more fair? Mainly because unlock most other cheap tools this one has good pliers, good saw, decent file, good can opener, functional drivers, good sheath and outstanding price compared to the Winchester,Stanley and Dollar Store tools for the same price, for 15.00 you generally get junk while this is obviously not, either way this is a great review

  • I purchased a Gerber Mini Tool Vice. It's not the most impressive tool in the mid west. A lot of the faults are the same as the one you are reviewing. I like Gerber products. I got it to put in my backpack. I got a Leatherman a few years ago and like that. It's not going in pack. Sure enough if I did I would loose it. The mini's should work for the purpose I got mine. Wouldn't you agree???

  • I have a Sheffield almost exactly like that, except the handles are painted aluminum, works ok for light duty stuff like fishing.

  • I have on and I'll echo pretty much everything here. The pliers are good, but everything else is cheap. To wide, to heavy.

  • this is an OEM multitool, it comes in many different shapes and colours but they all share the same pliers and tools. they suck. even at the price. ruined mine in 2 days. yes, 2 days. the pliers are made out of steel thats softer than butter, the tools dont lock, and if you think thats not a problem, believe me, its a nightmare and the knife is dangerous to use without the lock.

  • i use this for fishing and it does very well i never fish without it.. does a pretty good job at getting the hooks out

  • The white part of the rubber grip comes off like little strings. All the white comes off eventually. It was what I got when I had almost no money and now is in my car kit with the kobalt knife that came with it. I did a review on my YouTube page, but Nutn's was better... my knife and multitool together were $18.00 and at the time I purchased mine, the multitool alone was $12.00 bucks, so inflation really is rearing its ugly head.

  • Honestly, if Kobalt couldn't make a decent pair of pliers i would have words. thanks for the great review NutN

  • hey Nut'n!! i looked at those at lowes the other day and was wondering how good they were. no way in hell will i buy one now. the flat head screw drivers edges are rounded? only thing that looked decent was the file. i hate cheap tools! they break at the worst times, they don't last long, and in general are pieces of crap. you might as well use the dollars spent on them for fuel in a fire, flush down the toilet, or just rip them up. thanks for the review!

  • Thanks for the review!

  • Hmmm tempting but I'm gonna wait for the Leatherman Wingman for SRP of 29.99.

  • no lows in germany...

  • No Lowe's in Europe :-(

  • @f0xmuld3r Doesn't Webly make similar tools?

  • @CutleryNovice No idea, who are they? There's none of those in Holland. Bu no problem: I have SOG multitool and a Leatherman Wave and two gerber mini's. I'm set :-)

  • Comment removed

  • @f0xmuld3r They're a European gun makes, similar to Smith And Wesson in America, dang you are set which SOG?

  • Nutn will you be at Blade Show? I'm trying to see if I can go. You should set up a place and time where you and all your subscribers can meet.

  • Dude come on why are you waisting you time on a piece of crap Kobalt

  • Stick with a leatherman. Had a kobalt broke after about a month after heavy use.

  • is the steel in the kobalt better than gerber mystery steel?

  • HAHA Mascara ad before a Multi-tool review! awesome.

  • i'll stay with my SOG multi tool. Well made, lightweight, robust and no extra nonsense or fancy design.

  • I've had one of these for a few years now. I keep it in my truck's emergency kit. I have used it to swap out a battery, and do some minor tasks. The nice thing about the Kobalt is I don't mind abusing it a bit. I actually used it to baton some kindling. I wouldn't do that with my LM Wave.

  • Q - Whats the best survival knife?

A - Whatever knife you happen to have access to when the need arises.

Q - Is a cheap no-brand MT better than a Leatherman Charge TTi?

A - No, but it is better than no MT at all.

I have an Asaklitt MT that is much like this one (but it also has a LED light in the handle). It is inferior to all Leatherman tools, but it sure rocks the heck out of having no MT at all (which many of the haters/knowitalls never have).

  • @MrSatanica i have a few different asaklitt MTs and knives nd there not that bad tbh, not high end but better then some cheap knives and MTs.

  • well you get what you pay for, simple as that!

  • I have a Leatherman Wave for home & the Juice S2 for daily carry...got a cheapy no brand as a gift that's in the glovebox as backup...Great vid again! thanks for taking time to review...

  • De-Bunkin' the hype! Hysterics at TNP!

  • I bought the BLAST on Nutn's review and man was that money well spent. It's a high quality Versatile MT. I've "Saved the day" on many occasions with it. This tool? You'd probably lose the day with it. :/

  • I am a multi-tool addict... and I'm not attracted to it - sorry. However, I do agree with the philosophy of use behind a cheap multi-tool like this, and I have a few of them exactly for those purposes.

  • my favorite knife is black mamba survival knife what's yours?

  • Thats cool. Now were is the Mosin Nagant review.

  • I think there is a definite market for this type of multi tool out there. I previously owned a multi-tool similar to this. It did it's job. I've since upgraded to the blast (doh when I typed this the blast made a guest appearance) and like it much better. But the cheapy did it's job.

  • I do like some of kobalts innovations but nearly all of them are poorly executed.

  • I think you're right about trying to do videos only on gear that gets you excited. I see why you did the review and why it was interesting at first but everything about the multitool seemed like a let down. Informative to be sure but it wasn't fun to watch and I think that is in large part due to the multitool.

  • Thanks Nut for remembering us the European audience, and our better units ;)

  • @FinTomTom hey tom! better units? will you please calculate 1/3 or 1/6 or 1/11 of a meter for me? your pick, just let me know when you finish with the calculation. :P

  • @sw8741 here are the point what im trying to say 1000 Millimetres = 1 Metre 1000 metre = 1 Kilometre 1000 Geams = 1 Kilogram 1000 Kilogams = 1 Tonne 1 gram = 1 milliliter of water (ml) 1 ml = 1 cubic centimeter (cm) 1 calorie = amount of energy required to heat 1 mi/gram/cubic cm of water by 1 gegree celsius boiling point of water = 100 degrees celsius freezinpoint of water = 0 degrees on celsius try to explain the same Americans measurement units
  • @FinTomTom my point is how inaccurate metric is. numbers for dumbies. just move a decimal point! 5 months? are you done with the calculation? let me help...1/3 m = .3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333____m sorry, can't be done lol

  • @sw8741 yes? I do not get how it can take five months that the message arrives?

im sorry but you just answer your own question. you can use the integer and the fraction all so in the metric system so if i had to write i one third i would write 1/3 kilograms :)

the metric system is logical can you say the same of the American system?

  • Te poor man Leatherman LOL

  • leatherman MUT = <3 ^___^

  • letherman wave= fantastic

  • Not being a jerk, I like reading all the info. That just popped up.

  • Fasterner or fastener?

  • "...well made, US-made..."

    ;-)

    Bombrider Kong, GER south-west

  • rather get a charge or surge any day looks cheap

  • FYI Sheep's Foot serrated blade is for cutting drywall around outlet boxes.

  • You wearing safety glasses when you cut those nails? Had me worried when you pointed them at the lens haha.

  • gotta review that edge pro mang

  • nutnfancy I think you missed the most important and best use for a cheap mt in my opinion. To to throw into a tacklebox for fishing, thats the only time I've ever seen cheap mt like this ever actually get used

  • @footbalr074 I agree. I got a $10 MT from Big 5 that I used for fishing. It rusted from all the salt and stinked of fish, and I eventually lost it, but these cheap ones DO have a place

  • @sarsattacks if that place for cheap tools is at the bottom of a lake or ocean where your tool probably is, i agree with you!

  • @MARINE1146 And he made quite a fool of himself by talking about something on which he obviously did less than 5 minutes of research.

  • @MARINE1146 And he made quite a fool of himself by talking about something on which he obviously did less than 5 minutes of research.

  • That's funny, the Lowes near me has some other off-brand of multi-tool on its shelves, but no Kobalt.

  • Is there any opportunities to see Ganzo mt reviews in the future? These are said to be good value for lower price

    ...tac...

  • Nice vid on a cheap easy to find tool. His would be a good inexpensive item to have as a just in case tool.

  • I love the term "Pride of Ownership", working hard to afford nice, durable, quality items rather than massing a pile of cheap crap that does not work. I speak from expierence here. Take pride in all things you do and what your represent. Still waiting on the review of the tactical white sneakers. jk.

  • Choice, not chore

  • Dude, you went and did it now. You mentioned that you "slapped it on the Edge Pro Apex". Now you have to do a review on it ;-) That is a very cool knife sharpener, and not cheap.

  • I really like that you are reviewing very "cheap" stuff, and you mention that it is not great, but it can still be a value.

  • love your vids so informative everthing we need to know hope you make more multitool reviews

  • Stick one in your car trunk.

  • @cattnipp Yes, the Kobalt you have in your trunk is 1000x better than the Leatherman you left at home! :)

  • @MisterBorg9 Yeah - too many times I've needed tools in the car in a pinch - those cheap little vise grips in Lowe's are critical in the trunk also.

  • I actually have this. Another downside to it if you've used it often enough is that you'll find yourself getting pinched while opening the tools. I have just above average sized hand and it took me awhile to get used to positioning so I wouldn't pinch myself. A few times have drew blood so be warned about that.

  • I've had this for a while. This is my "keep in the truck under the seat and one day it may come in handy" multitool. So far, it's come in handy a few times. worth it for the cost.

  • With any of these mulitools where the blades don't lock, if you fold out the blade then close the handles the blade can only close back slightly.

I have a similar cheap one in my car it has come in handy a few times.

  • cheap multi tools generally use your had as the lock, when its shut it keep the tool from biting down but can generally stay in place enough

  • NUTNFANCY WITH METRIC SYSTEM! FUCK YEAH!

  • Hmmm no scissors and does not lock? Pass..... even if it IS only $15.

I'll save up.. maybe eat raman all week and search the sofa for change and save up for the Blast instead.

    Thanks for the review.

Thank you for all your hard work. =D

  • I think the MT is judged on it's knife, saw, driver, canopener, file not just the pliers this one sucks I have had 2 friend that have these sitting in there shop rusted as heck. Do not buy this product !

  • that is the sheath that came with my blast, so i think youre correct nutn.

  • What would be the best chore for a multi tool under 40 dollars, and good for taking up north fishing

  • 20mm = 0.7874 inches

  • It looks to me like a 15$ pair of pliers.

  • @jdunk2145 Exactly. It's up to the consumer to decide if it's right for what they want to use it for. Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, ect are excellent at making disposable tools.

  • Look up "Pierce Kydex" on facebook if you need a holster or sheath.

  • i got one of the $5 winchesters and i can tell you, all the tools on it suck but the pliers on it was precise.

  • I learned the hard way. For a hard cut, don't use a folding blade that is unlockable. Still have my fingers, wasn't that bad.

  • Okay.... P.O.S. is a little harsh after watching most of the review, but it definitely isn't a leatherman Blast or Wave.

  • Kobalt's dedicated tools (i.e. pliers, files, hammers, etc.) are super tough and awesome, but this looks like a P.O.S.

  • my multi tool cost me 25 cents at a yard sale and its been great for me

  • ive got a cheap multi tool with a 1/4 hex driver and bits and you definitely get your moneys worth out of them but dont expect much more

  • Kobalt has been pretty hit or miss to me. Their stuff either rocks or sucks and does not get the job done/breaks.

  • Dude, and you can take it apart! That could be big for some people.

  • What a coincidence! I used the Kobalt today at work! My POU for it is glove compartment MT for days when I'm not carrying my Leatherman Wave, and the chore at hand is not worth getting my real tool bag out of the back of the car. I bought it one day while visiting elderly family. A couple chores needed done, but my tools weren't with me. Rather than buy duplicate real tools, I got this and made it work. Agree about the flathead drivers. Like the spring-loaded pliers! Case is pretty good.

  • This Kolbalt is very close to one I got a few years ago for my first mt. I wish I had kept it but not using it to much it worked for me. it was cheap but worked. But now I carry my Leatherman Surge and you definitely pay for something of quality. I love it and use this everyday on cars for various lines and dashboard work. I agree with Nutn. If you can't afford one now than just save the money and get a better quality tool like swiss or Leatherman. Great Video thanks for the post as always

  • You could make a video about the correct way to use a screwdriver, 45 minutes long, and I'd watch the whole thing.

  • Like the new background

  • your new background is making your camera go out of focus and have difficulty getting into focus... I liked the old background

  • Having a cheep tool is better then no tools. I was given a cheep multi tool by a vendor and I just through it in my glove box. I have to say even being cheep it save the day when the battery cable snapped at the clamp in the middle of nowhere. I usually have a tool box in my truck but that day I had left it with a friend to borrow. I used to make fun of people with cheep tools, but not anymore. Like I said its better to have a cheep tool then nothing at all.

  • Personally, I see no use for Phillips drivers in MTs, a flathead can work in the phillips slot no problem, and it takes up less space sometimes...

  • Honestly most of these "lifetime warranties" on cheap products is really just a scam. Most require you to send in your warranty card AND receipt (and sometimes UPC from box as well) at your own expense within 30 days of purchase, or your warranty isn't valid. Second of all, if you do manage to get registered after all the hassle and need service, they make you pay return shipping, and often another fee ($5-6).. to get it repaired (after waiting 8-10 weeks). After all that, its just not worth it.

  • Gerber Suspension! best $28 bucks ive spent in a while.

  • also, it would be hard to get good purchase on the slick surface of that MT

  • i am diggin the old school MT review good work.

  • 0 duracoat and jimpimg = crap.

  • I spent a long time shopping for my MT before i settled on a Gerber Suspension. It was around $25-30, it works great, has the very specific list of tools i was looking for and for me, definitely high value.

  • im not a multi tool addict.. im a nutnfancy addict

  • I love your reviews but I do think you jumped too soon to say the sheath is good. Mine torn on top of the belt loop day one however the tool with life time warranty is good to be my beater MT

  • This is the first review I have seen you done in a long time of a product that you rated this low.

  • have a blast, i bring it everywhere. the blade steel is great and i can get it to hairpopping with the sharpmaker

only problem is it rusts easy but if you take care of it its no problem

  • Nutnfancy do I got a deal for you! I JUST got back from wal-mart with my brand new Gerber Mini-suspension. Ain't used it yet like I said it I literally JUST got back from wal-mart but I got 2 for $17. Seem to be pretty good for the price its hard complain when its 2 for $17 dollars

  • im 17 and im not that money tight i have a leatherman wave

  • I use this multitool for work in sugarwoods. Its very nice for what I use it for. I beat the hell out of it and don't need to worry if I loose it in the snow. Spring loaded pliers are nice, regularly cut heavy wire with it. I wouldn't bring it backpacking or camping but it's nice to have at work. I haven't broke it yet, it is certainly worth the $15. Honestly I don't use the tools besides the pliers, most of them in any multitool are virtually useless imo.

  • Its nice to see some products with small prices in TNP and an honest opinion on the quality.

  • finally a bunch of old school vids.

  • Check another review off your list, man you're cranking them out!

Kobalt has a lifetime warranty on their socket & wrenches. I assume this MT also has a lifetime warranty. Any mention of that on the packaging, you may want to annotate it. Thanks Nutn

  • Saw these at my local Lowe's. They were next to all of the cheap box cutters. The quality was very low. And what suprised me was they were not polished up like yours.

  • anything less than 40$ would be least I woul;d spend.

  • is this the first time nutn swore in a VID?

  • @DCOME94 I believe he was trying to say "funky" there.

  • nice

  • @adobo777 What does that mean?

  • @Vanguard41xx It means pineapples in Chinese

  • Dont knock the cheap MTs....that guy who got stuck in the desert cut his arm off with a Chicom 10 dollar MT...you may need to do that same....

  • @apocolypse1022 Aron Ralston. Got stuck in a cave/ravine because a bolder fell on his arm. But you are very correct. $10 MT saved his life.

  • @Abington586 and I think it was that little saw blade that got it done.....10 bucks...saw your arm off and live to talk about it.....word up yall

  • @apocolypse1022 it was actually the secondary blade in the mt. He dulled the large main blade by trying to chip away at the rock. The small secondary blade was the only thing sharp enough to cut. Good movie on the whole thing "127 Hours"

  • i hate inches and feet so much i love the metrics, centi mili kilo liters grams why does the u.s. have to dumb and be different

  • @graffsucks because we're Americans! Or maybe it is we aren't the ones who are different, the Metric system came about long after the Imperial system and even after the revolution. I like the metric system, but i'm comfortable in either and it doesn't bother me we haven't changed. It certainly isn't dumb, using metric isn't a sign of intelligence actually feeling comfortable in the land of fractions is a higher intelligence. I wonder if Franklin and Jefferson would change if they had hindsight?

  • @readyren fuck being smarter i want easier 13/16 gtfo. lol they made it after the fact to make somethig easier hahaha and jefferson and franklin are dead so who cares.

  • Baha, I chuckled when I saw the title to this vid.

I have been caught out about 3 or 4 times with "affordable".. no wait, just CHEAP multitools.. Each and every time I have been stung, lesson learned for me.. finally.

One thing I love though is spring loaded pliers, I think every MT should have those.. hell if it breaks it's only back to manual opening anyway.. so useful.

Oh and one thing, that serrated blade gave me a huge laugh cheers! Hah! :D 'Wizard of Oz' issues spring to mind..

  • I kinda really like this clean look without the annotations. Please try this more, I have seen how addictive they can be :)

  • Nice Video.. Saving for a Leatherman.. Better to spend the difference and get the better quality

  • @TACTICSRUS I own the WAVE. It's awesome. I use it when I work construction and it can handle some abuse and keep going.

  • I think I would rather shell out more money and get a good name brand multi-tool and be happy for what I payed.

  • I got gifted one of these by my dad, I promptly regifted it to my best friend who is a fitzen jr., you know the type; has at least 5 to 6 knives slash multitools on him at all times. It works great for him but not my taste.

  • Thanks for reviewing a cheaper product. Gonna save for the leatherman. Sometimes cheaper isn't always better.

  • Dude... Before I started watching your vids I can't believe how many of MT's I've eyed at different hardware stores and am SO glad I never wasted my money on those. I'd rather pay a little more for the REAL (not perceived) value that the "value" MT's advertise.

Thanks Nutn for your hard work in keeping us informed bro!

  • One of the you get what you pay for tools. You get average abilities for those who don't require the quality of Leatherman or Victorinox. I own a few lower quality MTs and they work good for some run of the mill work around the house but for harder use I prefer my Leathermans.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Pretty much get what you pay for...I'll stick with Leatherman.

  • Is this the one that was in 127 hours!

  • @county582 no it wasn't.

  • Blade steel - almost certainly 400 series stainless, probably 420, and of course the heat treatment makes all the difference.

I agree that as a back-up or B.O.B. option this is pretty decent. However, if I could afford the Leatherman I'd go that route.

My personal choice(s), EDC - Gerber Diesel (work related uses), Wilderness carry - Swiss Tool X (nothing else compares)

  • I have used many different multi-tools but weight is first thing to consider for me. I got a victoria-nox tool and never carried it around because of its heavy weight. I know some of you guys really need a tool with lots of different functions, but if you are not a construction worker, I would recommend using Leatherman Freestyle. Super light but of course you have to sacrifice some functions.

  • How could you review this and not the gerber octane or even new crucial f.a.s.t.! bah good job anyhow i like the reviews i skip the other stuff.

  • Its not dirt; its a mix of grime and dust cemented on the tool's grips with your sweat. Another reason im not big on rubber grips...

  • I think it´s $15 wasted...

  • spend a 100$/€ and get a freakin leatherman or swisstool. i hate those garbage 20$ mts

  • the shrated knife is for dry wall

  • 9.6oz for that tiny thing? I'm not the weight stickler that you are, but that's kinda crazy. I hate Gerber stuff with a passion, but I'd by a Gerber MT before I bought this. And really, the Leatherman Kick would beat the living snot out of this thing in quality and functionality for a mere five dollars more.

  • I carry a SOG "power lock", I also got it from Lowes. I would like to see you review that one. The SOG powerlock is "R Lee Ermy" approved gear lol

  • Good review im pleased to see your looking at hardware stuff now or things you see at walmart etc some of it is (ok) others are just horrible and not worth your money.

  • Again a datapoint on its "Durability", I'll be more specific. I've had 3 of these style/rebranded tools. I've had the screws fall out in regular carry, I'm sure you know how annoying it is to stick a screw back into a jacked up multitool(if you find it). I've also had the locking bars on the pliers bend outward, rendering them useless given they don't close anymore, I can see this happening to any of the other tools under "hard" use. Piece of junk that I wish I'd stop getting as a present haha.

  • Just caught up on my nutn vids, as soon as I'm done there are two more, love this channel!

  • I've used a multitool exactly like this one, only rebranded, its a really common design that SUCKS, breaks so easily, the screws fall out..

  • My $9 Gerber clutch lasted me two years :) Just crapped out from all my abuse, Worth every penny, good thing I bought two!

  • @ pugzlie18 thank you.

  • Review that Gerber Crucial , please im thinking about getting one

  • There is another use for cheap multi-tools - and knives. if you occassionally need one at work, you can leave them in your drawer, work vehicle, whatever, without too much worry. They may still get stolen (some people will steal anything. I used to have chewing gum stolen a lot. Then I left some laxative gum in there. The thefts stopped after that for some reason, lol), but at least it won'r hurt your pocket too much.

  • Honestly, I think the $15 could be better spent elsewhere. But as you said, a loaner, maybe a tool that sits in a car survival kit, etc. I'm not strapping it on my belt day in and day out. In those other POU's I'm sure it'd work fine. Good honest review (as always).

  • It's a pleasure to sub you Nutnfancy.

  • I'm liking those hollow-ground saw blades, great idea. That being said, I've found that I don't buy anything that brags about it's steel being "stainless" or "surgical". Those are gimmick words designed to mislead people about the quality levels, which I've found are pretty low. 8Cr13MoV or AUS8A is about the lowest blade quality I'll go normally because I don't want my blade to dull before I've finished what I needed it for. You'd be better off with a SAK and a pair of pliers or something.

  • Ganzo multitools are said to be good

  • One of the worst multi-tools ever!! Stick with Leatherman and Gerber. Yes I HAD one. I can spend $15 bucks on allot of other well made products. BUT if you still want one, the only place for that rinky-dink "multi-tool" is at the bottom of a tackle box. Love the vids Nutn.
