  • The dancing...oy!

  • thanx..my secret weapon is g. nash wild tales album

  • Well I'm 15 and this is one of my favourite songs lol

  • BETTER DRUMMER than Charlie Watts and up there with Mitch Mitchell or Keith

  • wish bar bands of today were this good with honest decent playing and KILLER vocals...to say nothing of the oh so catchy songwrting...the upgrade from carrie-ann to carousel with g. nash is exponential he shoulda stayed .s. stills would been fine without him (manassas) the resta csny....snore snore snore

  • @LanceHelmut Graham Nash and Allan Clarke were the secret weapon of the original Hollies. Nash simply took all that catalyst with him, travelling twice the speed of sound when the core of 'The Hollies, Ltd.' could not keep up. CSN, not necessarily Y, took up where the original Hollies left off. Anyone who came after him and Clarke is a wanna-be, including Sylvester. That this group hung on so long in the mighty wake of CSN is a credit to Allan Clarke

  • Just fantastic ! I'm a real beatlesfan but this is IT !!!

  • This is my fave version on Youtube, 'cause you can really see Bobby Elliott's BRILLIANT drumming. The whole band is just fab fab fab.

  • The way the original singles were mixed we didn't get to hear the drums that well. (They have been remastered and a great job was done, too.) But at point .58 in this video (and thanks to the nice stage mix) we get to appreciate the genius of drummer Bobby Elliot. He holds down the drum throne to this very day and I would dearly love to see him on stage. Based on his playing, I'll bet he has a background in jazz; kinda like Charlie Watts. And yes, Tony Hicks is great; but we knew that.

  • Can't get enough Tony Hicks~man is he an underrated rocker!!!!! Too bad he never sang lead on an entire song. He can play, he can sing....he's got it all baby!

  • @rwells47 -- Soooooo coool!!! Tony is top notch forever!!! However, I never saw a "Hollie" I didn't love! :-) They were/are all just amazing! :-)) Thanks for the share. Thanks, Fritz, for the live vid and Tony interview!

  • Tony Hicks is the shit!

  • good grief - that was last week wasn't it?

  • I always danced like this and I am 41.Never realized it till now

  • Comment removed

  • Graham really looks like George Harrison here...

  • Great band and they can each sing alone and play good too they harmonize and Elliott is excellent drummer and Hicks' guitar make it all come together.

  • To the ruddy "mess" that you "Limeys" have made in the world music scene, I, as a bloody freaking "Yank"..........salute you, and the rich heritage that you-lot of indiscriminate bleedin' Tommies have thrust upon the "world". (Good Lord, I'm just having my "say" as a flamin' USA-born 66-year-old lover of old rock music, and "blast me", if one doesn't , just a bit, like Your Style.). cheers.

  • Another Graham Gouldman (10CC) composition

  • I bet at the time this dance hall "Smells like teen Spirit".............

  • damn, this guy had really great vocals!! Vocal and harmony arrangements are very well put together.

  • Gaga, Beiber, Cyrus etc all pawns for the music industrial complex. All contribute ZERO to enriching the music industry! Yes, they will make money however, they have Zero legacy value. Unlike The Beatles, Hollies and many others who created an era that had much originality, passion etc! Many people, even youngsters yearn for REAL music... like you hear on this video.

  • @Jerrodswmhr Stop talking shit! This is the music of the past.

It's great, because it's nostaglia music.

Why do you care what 20yrs old listen to?

You're stating the obvious doesn't make you smart,

just makes you an 'oldtimer'! Which sucks!

  • Tony....mmmmmmm

  • BOBBY ELLIOTT! What a drummer!

PS: Forget Manolo-what's-his-name shoes....I wish we could find those great sixties shoes (:38 to :41 - NOT the clogs - LOL!)

  • When Bassist were NOT afraid to do a whole song on the 10th fret or higher!

  • The windmill drumming is to be found on the 'Bus stop' video. The drummer seem to be a bit of an inventive show off :)

  • I love The Hollies. Up there with the Beatles, The Stones,The Kinks and The Who. The drummer was really something. Charismatic as well as technically very gifted.(He seems to be doing windmill drumming on this particular video)

As well as the obviously gifted lead singer, the group also benefited from gifted melodic guitarists such as Graham Nash (the early Johnny Marr).

This is just one of their great songs. There are so many. My favourite is 'Bus stop'. Listen to the melody on that one!

  • Moody Blues used to play that place! I think it was in France, but not sure.

  • What guitar is Graham Nash playing? It looks like a Telecaster with a Vox neck.

  • @raunchboy My best guess would be a Vox 'New Escort'. Wish there better shots of it on the video. Look it up on the Vox Showroom on the JMI (UK) Vox 1967 Guitar Catalog - Page 3. Cheers :)

  • @mewrth Yep, that's it. Thanks!

  • Now THIS is live!

  • Listen to Bobby on the drums he is nothing short of AWESOME..to bad they cut up this clip, with Tony talking.

  • @rocksinger45 - Yes, this song would have only been half as good w/ a tame drum track!

  • @dubliner27 Bobby is one of the most under rated drummers in 60's rock. Very inventive.

  • >rocking out

    >music stops

    >tony hicks talking about something

    >ugh

  • Another Graham Gouldman classic, written when he was still working in a gent's outfitters by day! ~ those were the days!

  • A truly wonderful treat watching a great group doing a great song live. I know the dynamics are not balanced in terms of audio levels, but really, for me, it still captures the amazing flow of smoothness in harmonies & instrumentation. The Hollies were absolutely FANTASTIC !!!

  • @jbyesterday

    This is really something,isn't it?

Of course, we've forgotten that alot of these sixties groups were damn good players and singers and sounded great live.

  • the best part for me is from 1:47 on to the end.

  • Sido 7779- you're right. Great class never fades!

  • met my wife in 64, still singing yes i will to her, must be the best band of the 60/70,still great today, class never fades

  • awesome!

  • I love how chastely they're dancing, thinking they're being wild and crazy because they're not following predefined dance steps.

  • Bobby may have been the best drummer of the 60's~!~

  • 0:29......my sister used to go out for coal dressed like that.

  • great pop song

  • nice...but still not psychedellic...hummm like beatles in " rain" or stones in " Paint it black"

  • tony hicks can sit on the end of my bed anytime and pluck my strings along the way :) jeez the man puts me in a different world when he plays :) lushness

  • @mardy68

You can have him when I get done with him...LOL

  • @Aibajunno lmfao if only eh,my hubby looking at me weird lmao

  • Proper music.

  • how did it take 40 some years for these guys to get in the r&r hall of fame?

  • Great drumming from Bobby Elliot. A powerful drummer indeed; but the difference is, he knows when to use it and when not to. A powerhouse tempered by cool restraint; unlike many other so-called 'best drummers' who seem to think that fastest/loudest/flashiest is the best....Wrong!....Take a few tips from Bobby! (IMO)

  • It took me years to figure out the lead guitar part on this masterpiece ... Monty Del Zorro

  • Don't want us to hear those last few great chords from Tony?

  • Is that a great drummer or what? Spectacular!

  • I never knew how huge their library is..

  • Tony Hicks was a heck of a guitar player

  • @twoslices IS, IS, IS - better today than even then. . .

  • nice solos by Tony !

  • Is that a dancefloor or an extremely lame mosh pit?

  • I love the lyrics to this song!

  • God-Allan was handsome! I remember every girl loved Tony's hair, too.

  • Is this at The Bitter End in NYC?

  • @skeptics2003 Probably in North America, because they sing 'sly ways' both times--not 'fly ways', which Americans wouldn't understand.

  • I can't believe how many bands I counted that I liked from UK during this period...wow

  • graham gouldman

  • Thank you took me back 40 years. Melody instantly recognisable, like Beethoven these days for me :-)

  • Awesome song! Graham Nash looks like George Harrison in this video.

  • Too bad the mix on this is lacking. The drums and bass are drowning out the 2 guitars. But its still a treat to see any 60's act perform live since so many performances back then were lip synced. And the Hollies sounded great live.

  • The Hollies were BEATLE !!!

  • Thats why black people think we can't dance

  • The FREAKING Hollies!

What a richly deserved honor. R&R HOF! If they are not there, why even HAVE ONE!!

    All right!

  • Awesome song

  • a wonderful share sunsets !!!!

  • Absolutely superb!

  • Great share sunsets thankyou :)

  • Love The Hollies!!! Such A Fabulous Share & Post!!!...5*s Thankyou sunsets..:)

  • obviously dancing was not a prerequisite for being on this dance show. :)

  • Is Bobby (drummer) winking at the camera just around 1:04 ??

  • where;s Graham Nash?

  • Playing the white guitar.

  • @momike99

Graham Nash is the nearest to Bobby Elliot....

  • And including the least talented member of CSN&Y nash !

  • Bobby Elliott beats poetry out of that simple drum set!

  • Bloody Hell, Tony Hicks hasn't aged in forty years!

  • Hmmmm can I get you some glasses?

  • @vordman Saw Tony a couple of years ago, he still looks the same !!!

  • Ich liebe die Hollys..die meisten ihrer Titel sind einfach Klasse und machen spaß...kommt im Fernsehen nicht vor !..Leider..

  • Bobby Elliott will always be one of my FAVORITE drummers!! WOW!!

  • What a classic!

  • what great vocals! No Autotune here!

  • @drmlabs

Right...back then you had to really be able to sing unaided!! Even if it had existed, Allan Clarke wouldn`t need it!

  • @drmlabs : amen dude - Allan (and all of them) were FANTASTIC live musicians.

  • @drmlabs HEAR HEAR! (pardon the pun)

  • Tony Hicks had to be over 60 in that video, damn I hope I look as young as that when I get there.

  • badass song a metal band should cover this one

  • At 0 35 beautiful young audience.....LONG LIVE THE 60S.

  • precious...........precious..........precious

  • NIce harmonies and sincere guitar, but this recording shows the drummer by far the best thing about this band.

  • I do not think that he deserves more praise then the rest of the band. Allan and Graham being great singers and Tony a gifted guitarist as well as composers. It's true however that In these live clips he stands out as being a natural and creative drummer with a talent for show !! It could very well be that Keith Moon was a fan of his?

  • Eric22: You're right. I should have said that I personally find the percussion the most musically inspiring aspect of this clip! Thanks for your reply.

  • Keith moon considered Tony Hicks the finest drummer ofthe 60s. I concur.

  • What are you talking about? When the hell did Tony become a drummer?!

  • I'm sure you knew I meant Elliott. Hope I didn't ruin your day!

  • I figured, but I had to point it out. I can't stand fans who say things without really knowing what they're talking about. I see that you do and I thank you for your correction.

  • I wonder: When a band gets inducted into the RRHOF, does every person that was ever a member at any time also get inducted too? Don't know how it works.

  • Comment removed

  • Haydock WILL be there. He was in the 1982 reunion. he played of this...their greatest song!

  • Comment removed

  • I meant 1981...Nash was on the TOTP reunion ...and so was Haydock...That's called a reunion...the catalyst for the tour. Haydock will be inducted as sure as the sun comes up tomorrow. Time will tell if I'm right, or you are.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm aware [As Ihave already stated] that Haydock was present at The TPTPs Reunion. I saw them on the1983 tour...it was pretty good. The resulting album was VERY disappointing to say the least.

As I said, I am very confident I'll be proven right as to Haydock's induction. Cheers.

  • Comment removed

  • Of course it was the catalyst...it was the first time they's been on a stage together in 13 years...anything else is simply conjecture on your part. Also, it IS the reunion I was referring to. Lastly, [And most importantly] I will be proven right...Eric will be a member of the R&R HOF. Cheers.

  • Hi Billo912: Just wanted to say, that this is the most perfect pop song ever written/performed. It has everything. Little Steven Van Zandt has played it many times on his "Underground Garage" radio show. I know very little about drumming, but Bobby Elliott is just fabulous. I watch this sometimes just to watch him! Cheers, from a British Invasion fanatic in Canada.

  • You know I have played this song at least 1000 times and never get tired of it,you are right this is a perfect song ..

  • Comment removed

  • No recording studio/computer magic here! The REAL DEAL!!!

  • @Jerrodswmhr Yeah and they hit all their note's..Lady Gaga what!!!

  • The big ???? who will show up at the R&R Hall of Fame induction Graham or Terry or maybe even both...

  • Wow, Bobby Elliott. What a drummer

  • sweet moves on the dance floor

  • HOLLIES BEING INDUCTED TO R&R HOF!

  • Tony is cute here of course...as always.

  • There you are Tony! Still looking good I see! Another one of my favourite Hollies numbers....awesome!

  • One thing i see is how (in these mid-sixties bands) the bass is always pumping giving a real raw sound. You can really hear each instrument individually, which sounds so good compared to later music.Just wonderful....

  • @littlequeen64 exactly, i love the raw sound of the 60's and 70's

  • @littlequeen64 Yes, you hit on something, that I really took notice of a few weeks ago. How you could hear each instrument in the recordings of years past, and in todays music the instruments aren't distinguishable. I guess that's one of the big differences.

  • the singer on the right has the Kooks frontman vibe a bit...yes?

  • I love this band to bits! The Hollies = Legends. And gorgeous! Especially ♥Tony♥ who seems to have discovered the fountain of youth. ♫

  • Check out Nash's guitar! Who the hell puts a Vox neck on a Fender?! And is that a Vox trem on there too?!

    Crazy Brit!

  • @ironbuttermilk and please tell me, what kind of guitar is tony playing?

  • @LadieBug357 That's a Framus 12 string, with a bolt-on neck, made in Germany.

  • @ironbuttermilk Thank you for the info!

  • underappreciated drummer!

  • You're right there mate!

  • I always get a slightly melancholy feeling off of this song for some reason. I always thought it was a great song, but it connected with me in s strange way. Maybe it's the subject matter--a lone person on the outside of society looking in, but not a part of things....

  • OMG what Allan a STUNNER or what!

He had what were surely the BEST cheekbones in all of Rock & Roll! :D

  • Love this observation! These guys just had it all! Fantastic drummer, great guitarists, perfect harmony and Alan and his happy voice! Just the name of the band "The Hollies" makes me feel good. Hollies = Christmas = happy time of year (hopefully).

  • how fortunate we were to have such great

music to grow uo with...The Hollies were

a class act with one great song after another..

  • Wonderful era. I envy all this people.

  • the Germans kids dancing aren't getting any love from the comments here

  • White people trying to dance . HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

  • Monkberry50, Yawn! haven't you realised how boring you've become.

  • there IS more than one way to dance ya know

  • Every time I hear this track it reminds me of John Peel - first time I heard this was on one of his late night shows

  • My fave Hollies tune, and written by that guy form Hot Legs/10cc. Excellent vid.

  • one of the best songs of the hollies, but the audience is a complete mess, awkward, embarrasing moves and stepping each other's shoes.

  • What I notice when I watch the audience's feet is just how PRETTY and feminine

the shoes were for girls back in the

1960s:very flattering. They were well-crafted then too, ALOT more sturdy than many women's shoes are nowadays.

  • Is it just me, or has U-Tube gotten worse in the sense that it starts+stops, then starts+stops again and again. And yes, I know about letting it play for a bit, then back it up and re-start it. PLEASE...can anybody lend any advice?? I'm not dialup...I've got the satellite. This is ruining my U-Tube experience. Sorry to complain...but....HELP! Thanks...Joel in Tucson

  • Ditto!

  • Well Tony, you certainly succeeded in producing good quality songs that I, for one, will never forget or get tired of hearing.

  • What a great song! I also like the dancing shots for the dancing and fashion styles.

  • i love this drummer is he still around??

  • That's not the drummer...it's Tony Hicks!!!!!

  • Was there another clip of the is song on You Tube where Bobby Elliot windmills right at the end? Or was I dreaming?

  • So Tony Hicks does actually get older! LOL!

  • bobby elliott....just rocks.

  • Tony Hicks is still a doll!

  • My favorite Hollies song - and I love this live performance! Their talent and vocals overcome the venue.

  • One of my favorite songs of the 60s. Doesn`t Graham Nash look strikingly like George Harrison looking from the right side of the stage? Why are these guys not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame?

  • I see it as well. The RnR Hall is a joke and why David Bowie won't participate in it. Rock is about rebellion not a museum. They have also left out Alice Copper and then let in James Taylor. What on earth is rock n roll about James????

  • David Bowie won't participate? Any particular reasons?

  • He indeed does look like George from that side.....

  • I've always thought Graham bore a strking resemblance to George. Two very handsome guys.

  • Such a great band.I loved the Hollies, i thought they were great.Interesting to hear Tont comment as well. Graham Gouldman sure is a prolific songwriter.

  • I Have Such A Better Version Of This One Without All The Title Stuf But It Cost Me An account This And The Very Last Day

    Dutch TV Slaped Me

  • I believe this song was written by the great Graham Gouldman, who also wrote such 60's classics as Heartfull\ of Soul by The Yardbirds, No Milk Today by Herman's Hermits, Bus Stop by The Hollies, to name a few, and later became a member of 10cc with Eric Stewart who was in The Mindbenders. not too shabby!

  • What a bunch of cuties, especially the lead singer.

  • Tony Hicks and Bobby Elliott are criminally underrated.

  • And criminally HOT (esp. Tony)!!!
