Very cool tune! I never heard of this band here in the USA but I have all of BeBop Deluxe's material on records and CDs. Charlie played bass with those cats and until I heard this now I did not realize the dude had such an awesome singing voice! Right on Healing Force!
A big night at the Christo Disco in Devonport Tasmania in the local church hall around forty years ago.. Healing Force blew me away as a crazy 15 year old. Loved the song and the band ever since. This is catchy sixties pop.
An all time favourite song that takes me back to when I was 16 full of hope, dreams and plans. I'm glad they recognised it in "Bombora - The History of Australian Surfing", it truely is a remarkable song.
brilliant song it brings tears because those days are gone, those days seemed never ending especially with radio station playing it and traveling down the roads out of Hay getting stoned out of my head. Still got my 45 single its like gold to me. MUSIC TODAY TRUELY SUCKS, men got no balls and sound like women on heat and females sounding like men.
loved 60,s 70,s aussie bands,so under-rated,some great talent.twas early days then we had great bands in adelaide too, there,s a compilation cd out thru coast fm, we need more of these to preserve this music.
Lindsey Wells the guitar player is a friend of mine going to see his band tonight have to show him this will bring back a lot of memories....he is still a great guitarist!.
havn`t heard this song since I was around 10 years old. looooooooooove it. thanks to jimmy barnes`s radio show for reminding me and thanks to whoever posted it here.
Classic, legendary ---- are words so overused, but this track IS a genuine Australian - New Zealand classic. Still fresh after 40 years. Rest well Charlie.
A great Aussie sound of the 70's ! Healing Force along with Spectrum, I believe produced a unique " Aussie music Sound" during this period with that guitar style and organ sound !
Yes! There is a collection of tracks released on the Raven label, called 'Golden MIles: Australian Progressive Rock, which has photos of both Tully and HF. Looks like they shared a common member.
Drummer in HF was Laurie Pryor formally of The Twilights, the keyboard player was Mal Logan who was later in the Dingoes & LRB, Tully's keyboard player was Michael Carlos and drummer was Robert Taylor
As catchy a tune as you'll ever find, cool organ playing, naturally soulful vocal style, a classic that should be on every top 100 hits list ever published. Unfortunately it is not! That's a shame.
This is indeed a classic song. Im so glad it was voted as the greatest aussie composition of all time! I was 2 years old when this song came out, and Ive grown up my whole life listening to and loving this song...totally reminds me of summer when I was a kid in the 70s!!
the greatest aussie composition of all time...it gets my vote...i wasn't even born when it was written but i still speak to many older muso's who agree with me....awesome...
What was I just listening to? I gotta have more of it ..... came across Healing Force while surfing for Be bop Deluxe and needless to say, I am hooked forever.
When I started my on-air career in 1971"Golden Miles" was on the playlist and I loved it. Nearly 38 years later, I still love it. It's one of those truly great, "timeless" songs that rarely gets played on the radio, even on Oldies stations, which is CRAZY ! My memory of cueing up the Sparmac single on big, old turntables is vivid and today it's pride of place within my CD collection. A great legacy from a classy band !
Hi, Golden Miles fans, it's Lindsay Wells here and always great to see and know my song is still loved. Am in Perth rockin my bum off with a great band and fan base, keep on rockin'
The great Healing Force, Oo yeah.Thats a terrific song that young Aussie bands should listen to.Get an idea about where they are from, musically. Thanks tomtokenator
Wow!I can't believe I've never heard of this band. What a shame! These guys should have been a big hit here in the states. Great sound. Thanks for the post.
again another aussie band worthy of world fame r these guys as good as or better than alot of british stuff that came out in the early 70s or wat???.. mississippi, flying circus, axiom, spectrum, r just to name a few...english stuff was bloody good but man home grow oz was up there as well..thx
Healing Force: In this clip was Charlie Tumahi Bass/Vocals, Lindsay Wells Guitar(Strat), Mal Logan Keys(L100 Hammond), Laurie Pryor Drums.
In the early days John Pugh (guitar) sat in on occasions (see "Golden Miles" GTK clip).
The only vinyl recording was the single "Golden Miles"/"The Gully" recorded by Roger Savage, Produced by Robbie Porter (NZ Rob EG) and mixed at Electric Ladyland.
They had enough original songs for an album but the band broke up before recording them in a studio.
Lindsay Wells here. J Pugh was in the band at the very beginning but left before gigging and joined right at the end when we did the video for the record but was not a player on it. I'm still a Pro and luv you GMls and Healing Force fans
Healing force,Badfinger.Sounds just awesome!Others that i,d happily include like the great Billy Thorpe,Inxs, the Rasberries,Seals and crofts,Ted Mulry gang,Easybeats and Ac/dc.
Maybe todays bands dont get to pay their dues at pubs and clubs like they used to.Good bands work hard at getting their sound right,eg Healing force,Madder lake,The The chain,Billy Thorpe,The kinks,Easybeats,Ted Mulry,Ac/dc, Badfinger etc
I'm not sure but I think this band supported The Kinks when they played Brisbane in 1971. Badfinger were supposed to play, but cancelled, and their slot was filled by two Aussie acts, Ted Mulry and (I think) Healing Force.
No Kidding. In a music magazine poll in the 1990's, Golden Miles was voted the best Australian composition of all time. Nothing more needs to be said after a result like that.
Agreed, its such a beautiful, amazing rock/pop song.I love how Charlie Tumahai sings, its a great voice he has.I also like how the music was back then in the early 70s.I also love Badfinger, who sang in this particul style.I think they call it powerpop these days. Thanks Tom.
Brilliant indeed I think they had a New Zealand element??

Charlie Tumanhai is sadly, no longer with us. He left Healing Force back in the 70's to join Be-Bop Deluxe.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if any of the band members in HF were also in band called Tully? Possibly the keyboard player or the drummer.
