  • Hi Betty! I don't have dry onion soup mix, or mushroom soup, but I do have cream of chicken and a can of Campbell french onion soup. May I use that instead? Thank you!

  • Thank you so much for this recipe I cooked this yesterday for Dinner and my kids loved it (they are picky eaters) it so easy I used the crock pot for the meat instead of stove, but just wonderful. I love your channel.

  • Thanks, Betty!

  • Betty - I doubled the recipe to make today, cooked at 350 degrees for 3 hours the gravy it made was perfectly thick, but the meat looked cooked on the outside but was somewhat pink inside .. is it okay to eat it like that? Thanks :)

  • @amb8205 Yes, it's fine to eat it like that. I'm surprised that the meat was not browned all the way through, but it is perfectly acceptable to eat beef stew meat when it is pink on the inside.

  • Betty, thank you for sharing this recipe .. it was sooooooooo good! I think I will double the recipe next time so there will be more leftovers!

  • @amb8205 Thanks for your great feedback! I really appreciate it!

  • I have a clear glass casserole dish with a lid, can I cook the beef and gravy ingredients in it? Also, is it okay to cut the stew meat into smaller pieces? If so, does cooking time need to be adjusted? Thank you!

  • @amb8205 Yes, a clear glass casserole dish will be fine, as long as it is big enough. If it's not, then you can bake it in two portions. Yes, it is okay to cut the meat into smaller pieces. The cooking time does not need to be adjusted. As with any meat with gravy, check on it near the end of baking, and if the gravy is getting thick, then you may take the casserole out of the oven or add a little water and let it cook longer if you want it browner.

  • very nice.....is pasta ok or noodles better?

  • @philduffer Use any kind of pasta you like, including noodles.

  • well i dont like mushooms, but i think i may try this with cream of broccoli soup instead.....cool and simple!

  • @orlendatube Sounds great!

  • I like your videos. Simple and straight forward with really good recipes :) Thanks for sharing!

  • Um, one question. i bought all the ingredients but could i substitute the beef for pork?

  • @RuneHells Yes, beef, pork, or chicken will be good in this recipe.

  • So I bought all my ingredients yesterday, gonna be making this tonight. Just had one question. Will it make a difference if I cook it in a covered roast type pan? Like I see you're using a bowl with foil, now I know a pan over a bowl won't matter but should I still cover it with foil or can I just use the lid that goes with my pan, it's like a steel roast pan. Just curious if you use the foil for any particular reason, like does that effect how it will cook or did you do that just for ease?

  • Your roasting pan with a lid will be fine! I only used the foil as a covering. You can take the lid off near the end of baking, and it should be great! This is a wonderful choice of recipe to make!

  • Okay so now I have to try this :) I did meat loaf for the first time 2 weeks ago and it came out great, I invited my mom over to be my test subject. :)

I was searching for a beef stew type dish, we used to have a dish similar to this in the cafeteria at my work some times, except they had the stew beef in beef gravy with chopped mushrooms and served it with egg noodles or sometimes rice. It was one of my favorite meals there so I'm looking forward to trying this, see how it compares!

  • I think you will really like this! I haven't found anyone who doesn't!

  • I'm trying this tonight! Looks delicious! Thank you again! :-)

  • I hope your Stew Beef and Noodles came out great! Thanks for commenting!

  • I just sent Betty a recipe like this and didn't see this recipe she has used already. This delicious recipe is much like the one I use but I cook it in the oven in tin foil for a hour.I don't use water and serve it with mashed potatoes.

  • Thanks for noting that this recipe is a real winner! You can't beat the taste, and it will be fantastic with mashed potatoes in place of the noodles!

    --Betty :)

  • This looks fantastic. Do you think would be ok to add some veggies like carrots and onions to this? ...or would that completely change the flavor? Your videos make me so hungry!

  • I think carrots, onions, even celery would be fine! The onion soup mix is so powerful that the gravy will taste basically the same--maybe a little milder. Good tip for everyone! Thanks!!!

    --Betty :)

  • Made this tonight and it was delicious! I threw it all in my slow cooker for 9.5 hours. The meat fell apart. It was so tender! Tomorrow, I'm going to add the carrots and onions to change it up a little.

Could you suggest a different, leaner cut of meat for me for next time? Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed it as is. I'm just trying to go for a little healthier approach. I skimmed off approx. half a cup of fat off the top! Thank you so much for this recipe! Yet another winner!

  • You could get some very lean round steak, trim off all the fat, and cut it into cubes. Also, you could use less meat, if you like, and maybe substitute whole wheat noodles. The sauce is flavorful enough for you to use more noodles. (Adding the carrots and onions if also a great idea.) I'm glad your liked the recipe. Thanks for the feedback!

    --Betty :)

  • Will definitely try that next time, Thank you for the suggestion! My husband is a carnivore and he devoured this without stopping to breathe! My 9 year old wanted thirds, but I had to hold him back from over-doing it!

It's kind of funny how excited I am to cook these days, now that I have your recipes! They are guaranteed successes!

  • I have made this yummy dish several times with NO fat or grease in it. All you have to do is look for a leaner-appearing package of stew meat (sometimes they trick you by placing it fat-side-down in the pack) and trimming off the fat before you place it in your cookware. This dish is so lean I can't even get a layer of fat to skim off after refrigerating the leftovers. The beauty of this dish is that is made with a less expensive cut with fabulous results.

  • Great information! Thanks for commenting!
