You can't "win" an occupation. At what point is an occupation a "victory"--perhaps when occupying forces are no longer needed. Therefore, McCain's approach defers victors and promotes strife. You can succeed at promoting peace but there is never a winner in an occupation. Perhaps if Iraq gets to keep all of the money we've invested there, they win.
We're fighting a war with our allies the Iraqi Security Forces. Our enemy is AQI and the Mahdi Army supported by Iran. There are two kinds of "occupations" wartime and peacetime. Wartime occupations cannot be ended until the enemy is eliminated. When the enemy is eliminated it is a victory for the US, the ISF, the Iraqi people, and the free world. Then Afghanistan. I'll probably be going there.

I´m from Germany, and the US has had a military station in my city for over 50 years now.
Normaly the USA does only leave a military base, if it´s no use for them anymore, because there was no real reason to stay in Germany that long.
But now they seem to have enough business elsewhere, so they are giving it up now.
But I think it´s funny that our city has to buy the ground which formerly was city ground again, and nobody may enter the ground for planning purposes before the last one left.

I´m from Germany, and the US has had a military station in my city for over 50 years now.
Normaly the USA does only leave a military base, if it´s no use for them anymore, because there was no real reason to stay in Germany that long.
But now they seem to have enough business elsewhere, so they are giving it up now.
But I think it´s funny that our city has to buy the ground which formerly was city ground again, and nobody may enter the ground for planning purposes before the last one left.

First off, in an interview with the Prime Minister of Iraq and they are looking forward to Oil companies investing in their country, which will only be possable if the place is SAFE! He said it would take a long time but will be worth it!

here is a lil info: there is less and less oil but more and more demand. Oil is expensive because of tremendous increases in demand globally especially in China and India.
How come the death rates only recently sharply declined? Of course reconciling with the Sunni's and getting them to turn on AQ was crucial, but Da Surge solidified everything especially the stifling of Sadr. It was a great idea to get rid of saddam, but we didn't have enough troops to hold the peace.

The kind of army the US would do nothing against but would love too. There might me some in Sth America and some across the ocean... Don't distract yourself with China. medaa25 even in Vietnam America was holding back.
At it's hight only 12% of our military budget was being used to fight that war and that's just our military budget.
Further more at no point did we use nuclear weapons.
We want the Iraq war to end because Bush lied us into it.
I assure you that if the American people wanted to we could systematically eliminate every single potential threat in Iraq.
Be glad that we have morals enough not to do that.

You cannot justify the need for it, after all, you invaded the country to save the Iraquis, isn't it? It has nothing to do with morals. We recognise great nations and great threats in difficult times. After 9/11, the US was so shocked that it overreacted and made many mistakes and the "great American" myth died with these...
