have to love it when you can introduce your young adult kids to this and they go "shit you had better music in the 80's than we have now"!!! Had to explain to them what it was like listening to the cure, clash, radio birdman, shriekback then was "alternative" not mainstream lol.
Just goes to show you can never categorize The Cure. Just when you think you know their style they go ahead and nail you with something like Primary and then 6 minutes later they hit you with Underneath the Stars followed up by Bare and then One Hundred Years followed by Sinking.
MISFIT--THIS IS A TREASURE! I never heard it before. VIVA THE CURE! VEVO's 'classic version' is garbage compared to this!.....and so, for that matter, is VEVO, that pack of greedy leftie-loving, money-grubbing, song-mangling scoundrels!
Outstanding version, love this song !!!, I think this band never received the credit they deserve for the contribution in the 80s with the unlike sound and probably because they always preferred to be in the underground line and not be commercial as many other bands choice.
Great extended version of my 2nd favourite Cure song. Hope they do one more tour and come to NZ before they hang up their guitars. First and only time I saw them was at the old Wellington Town Hall in 1979. Only one regret, I can't remember the concert, but I'm sure they were great. I tell a lie. I can recall the creepy opening riffs to another Cure favourite. At Night.
I love this song its always been my favourite Cure track! Great to drive to on the empty motorway at one in the morning at full blast. Great to hear the extended version.
Back in the day I had this extended version so it's great to hear it again...but let's be honest , cheeky old Robert Smith managed to get away with simply doing a speeded up version of Charlotte Sometimes. I promise you - in the old days when you could play your 45rpm single at 33rpm you could prove that the two are exactly the same. Still love them both tho'
@guitar241990 It's just as dark if you look the lyrics and understand the meaning, it's about the disadvantages of growing old and children being put to sleep ritually
Wow, this is your favorite Cure song? I always thought it was one of their weaker ones. Too much like regular rock n' roll and they're capable of so much more than that! Oh well, to each his own!
Great version of a great song. How many other tracks can you think of which has no guitars on, but 2 lead basses? Saw them half a dozen times or so in the early 80s whilst at university - used to travel miles in extreme discomfort all across the north of England.
I have always absolutely loved this song but to get to hear the extended version just rocks!! Wow!! Our radio station never played this version. Figures! The Cure has been my all time favorite band for 26 years and will continue on forever!! This song always makes me just want to get up and dance, no matter what i am doing!! This song just grabs you!! Another amazing song from such an amazing band of all time!! The Cure forever!!
fuckin been tryin to find dis song for awhile lol love da cure have dere greatest hits albulm right next to me lol nd mums got most of dere other albums lol ahh love dese guys till death like to fank my mummy for showin me dem lol
After drinking a pot of coffee and spinning The Cure's extended rare re-mix version of "PRIMARY"...... for about an hour.....I feel like I'm 19 again ....... but there's no way I'm dying my hair maroon again & staying out all night!! @misft excellent post ...
Thanks for this. I can see you're a KROQ fan also. Thank God for KROQ in the 80's. I used to live right down the street from the station in Pasadena, Los Robles St. Do you remember Poo Bah's record store also? In Pasadena off of Colorado st.
@1969Brookie i used to go to poo bahs all the time i met rodney on the rock there.he was so cool.he said god head alot.i loved jed the fish and swedish eagle and dusty street.wow those were the days.
@nuwavething... Yes, wonderful Poo Bahs. I've gotten many rare Cure vinyls from there back in the 80's and early 90's that I just recently found again after sooo many years not knowing where the heck they were. I have many Cure vinyl promos my Disintegration promo and kiss me kiss me kiss me promo are my favorites. Love them Promo and rare Cure vinyls :)
@nuwavething... It's amazing how KROQ a little radio station in Pasadena turned into the "world famous KROQ" now. Even Dr. Drew who hosted loveline (not sure if he still does because I live in Idaho now and have been for sometime. No KROQ here :( ). He's become a huge success now. I remember calling loveline when i was about 14-15 years old and talking to Dr. Drew. I am 41 now, lol. So silly.

This was a kind of random song. It's an upbeat punk song sandwiched in the middle of a quite dark , Bleak album in Faith.
