A Taiwanese music critic in Taipei reviewed the LO LAT single CD. He writes: "I just listened to the single mp3 of the LO LAT SONG. It struck me to be in the vein of comedian-turned-singer Lotus Wang -- 王彩華's hit single ""保庇" -- BOBEE -- which mixes pop song elements, electronica and a catchy Taiwanese colloquial festive phrase."
The music and vocals are both well done. Good job for both of them, Tino and Amanda. "
The picture of this beautiful woman shows an example how beautiful and soft Taiwanese /Chinese woman are and there are everywhere. unlike the mostly rough and tough women elsewhere. :Long live Taiwan and China !!!
ya ok its not part of China...its just that Chinese ppl in 1949 happens to be able to go there, WHILE it wasn't part of China, and set up the government
@soopaflychic like Eragon537744 said. We were colonized by the japanese for years, either thats what they were taught to say or they are part japanese.
這一首歌曲我記得小的時候在臺北街頭聼過; 我真沒有想到今天在海外的四十六年歲月中又聽到了. By the way, the song here was sung in Taiwanese dialect, which is also known as Southern Min Dialect of Chinese. I wonder, if the original song was in Japanese. I really enjoyed listening to it! :-)
@jdnieves Haha Taiwan is not that expensive. No need for winning the lottery although that would be awesome. I think if you go during off peak season, tickets are like 800 roundtrip. I got a package deal to TW once where we stopped off in japan for 5 days and food and lodging was included for 1700! It was GREAT, u should try it!
@n4sir804 I disagree. If that was the case, then why do Taiwanese people call themselves Taiwanese? Who is the one that is truly brain washed? Why is there a separate government and how much history of Taiwan do you know?
@Fayjina it is like the Falklands has its own government yet they are still technically part of GB..same for Taiwan. china has on many occasions threaten to dominate TW again...and are you calling me brain washed?. i have several friends that live there for years..have i been there no..but that surely doesnt mean anything.
@n4sir804 Why do we have our own culture and national anthem? What is the point of that? I would be lying to myself if i were to say that this matter hasnt been a controversial one for a very long time but you must recognize there are nations out there that DO believe that Taiwan, in fact, a country of its own and NOT a province or some shit of China. China wants to believe they own Taiwan but never truly having any control over what goes on in it.
there are no such thing Hohhien , People in Amoy speak l close to Taiwanese, but people in Fuzhou speak differently. There have too many different languages(dialet) in Hokkien.
That's the funny part. SEA Chinese (Malaysian/Singaporean Chinese) call the language Hokkien (福建话). However, this language is not spoken in Hok (福州) nor in Kien (建州). Really silly name. It only reflects the ignorance of SEA Chinese about their own heritage.
The majority of people of Fujian heritage in Malaysia and Singapore speak either a mixture of the Quanzhou and Xiamen dialect or the Zhangzhou dialect. Since all these dialects are mutually understandable among the majority of the people of Fujian heritage in Malaysia/Singapore, they just decided to call it Hokkien for simplicity. Perhaps a more accurate term would be Minnan hua.
The problem with using Minnan is that there are also Chaozhou and Hainan people in Malaysia/Singapore and these languages can be considered Minnan. There are also some people of Fuzhou heritage in Malaysia but since they are not the majority and their dialect is not very similar to the other Minnan hua, they call the language Hokchiu to distinguish it fromt the other Fujian language.
Chinese phonology has advanced quite a bit from B. Karlgren era (1889~1978). Look up also Middle Chinese lessons 中古漢語語音教程 by biopolyhedron here in YouTube. Neither Cantonese, Hakka, nor Hoklo are Tang dynasty official language. Hoklo is a term used already for hundreds of years by these people to call themselves, and documented in Western literature for about 200 years. No need to invent new terms. Respect people's endonyms, that's the best practice.
That I am one in 10 million? Actually, it's more like I am one in 50 million (Hoklo speakers.) Please visit my tadpolenese website, and learn about the morphophonemic writing for this language, and the linguistics aspects of this language that you never knew. 10 million Singaporean and Malaysian have not achieved what I have achieved. Please, strive to be one in a million, not one of a million.
Thanks, very refined indeed. It reflects the atmosphere of the good old days and a fine day at the beach. The polka part breaks the speed of the song, better it had to be skipped. But it was added to the song because the audience like all kind of novelties, I think.
im black, i have watched this video more than 20 times, so romantic and the song delicious. actually i was searching for "mei gui mei gui" old chinese song i heard when i was a little over 30 years ago in africa and i came across this song deep into my soul, though i don't speak chinese. thank you emanuel for sharing.
@dwtt20 Amen to that. I grew up listening all kinds of English music, had no idea what I was listening to. Now I love anything that has a good rythm and harmony.
yes it is a japanese song, but in the 1950s to 1980s, taiwanese music was influenced heavily by japanese enka, and many enka tunes were translated into taiwanese or mandarin. it's unfair to say it's from taiwan, when its from japan.

are you saying it's inappropriate for SEA Chinese to identify with their province of origin ?
What do you suggest they call themselves then ?
what about overseas Cantonese who call their language TongWa ( 唐话 ) ? Must we then ascertain whether it's truly the language of Tang ?
